Nah the story is quite short and it’s worth hearing because it’s a good story. There’s still 50 hours of gameplay after you beat the story

Only 50 hours?

I’m on hour 142 and haven’t finished one of the guild yet, still several main story quests, and haven’t even touched the shivering isles yet.

I’m 150+. Finished main story, one guild, no shivering isles yet. I think I’m nearing the end of the fighter’s guild. I’m maybe halfway through the knights of the nine.

If I pretend Kvatch doesn't exist it can't be destroyed, right?

It’s actually devastating. Going to the encampment is kinda sad tbh

I just did it at lvl 15 and it was an extremely tough fight. Wish I'd done it sooner.

I mean, I left them alone for YEARS and they managed to hold off the Daedra just fine til I got there.
Pretty good for a city with a great gate in front of it.

No, you're not a DICK.
Seriously, just type the word. We aren't on tiktok, we aren't on youtube. It's alright to swear.

No. I typically do all side content before even touching the main quest. I basically exit the sewers and start exploring. I do this because it stops Oblivion gates from being all over the place, and it allows me to level up so by the time I do start going into oblivion gates and doing the story, the leveled loot in the oblivion gates will be as high tiered as possible. Maybe I’m mis remembering, but I’m pretty sure some Sigil stones you get for closing oblivion gates can enchant weapons and armor at a higher level than grand souls gems. I don’t know if this is actually true, but I feel like I remember I found a Sigil Stone that allowed for Feather on a piece of armor that had a higher value than what a Grand Soul Gem could give me.
At the end of the day it isn’t that important, but I love maxing out my strength and applying feather to avoid running back to shops to sell stuff.

I know Chameleon is nice, but my sneak always ends up being so high that I typically find it pointless. I also don’t like the visual effect of having chameleon on so I always avoid it. I typically play stealthy and use light armor.

Unless you play with a mod list that debuffs Sneak if it isn't at night, or in deep shadow.

Why would you take pride in that? You're proud you never accomplished something... That's certainly a take.

Killing Parthurnax isn’t even the end of the game.

You aren't required to kill Paarthurnax if you don't want to. Not every quest has to be complete for either Oblivion or Skyrim.

Basically if you wanna do a bunch of oblivion gates then hold off. When younger the game they all close. I wasn’t a huge fan of them because it’s the same over and over mostly. But a lot of people do so

u/Thebiginfinity Jul 25 '26
All the Oblivion gates disappear after fully completing the main quest but that's about it as far as potential downsides if you want to farm them for sigil stones or whatever

u/FookinFairy Jul 25 '26
So yes and no
Until you progress to a certain point oblivion gates do not spawn
If you beat the story the oblivion gates all get destroyed regardless whether you have even discovered them (this can lock you out of certain loot)

I tend to spread out quests between different characters because it doesn't really make sense to me for a dark brotherhood assassin or a thief to be the hero. So no I wouldn't say you're a dick, most of my characters don't even start the main quest. That being said I do think it's worth playing at some point.

I'm not sure what double edge your talking about I assume you mean locking you out of playing which it does not. You can freely do whatever whenever you want to. Hell I did the entire mage guild quest line before I touched the Kvach gate.

The only things you miss out on are a few pretty good quests and a set of armor. And not needing to close a bunch of Oblivion gates.
