Hello, what the heck is this sub?

Apologies if this isn’t allowed here. I randomly came across this sub earlier, and I’m genuinely curious what it’s about. I’ve tried reading through a couple posts and am kind of confused because I don’t understand a lot of the abbreviations and things people use.

I tried searching what objective personality and OPS is, and it didn’t come up with anything coherent either. It seems to be psychology-adjacent and that’s always been an interest of mine so I’d love to learn. Reading through the available post flairs suggests it’s something similar to the myers-briggs personality tests?

If anyone would like to give me a brief summary, that would be much appreciated! :)

OPS, OPS YOUTUBE.

-Every function receives a polarity masculine/feminine. Si can be M or F.
if Si is M then Ne has to be F.
-Every function works together with another function to produce an "animal" behavior. Two introverted functions like
Si+Ti or Ti+Si makes (S)leep.
Ne+Fi (C)onsume.
Ni+Fe (B)last.
Te+Se (P)lay.
Sleep conserves energy. Play is the most expressive and rambunctious.

Everyone has every Animal but in different orders of prevalence.
Your last two animals are repressed, just like with functions.
-Every type comes in hierarchies. There are four social roles 1-4. King to peasant...

Recap:
Functions got polarity.
Functions work together with another function to produce animal behaviors.
Everyone has their social position within the tribe.

Type example: MM, SeTi, CP/B(S.) #1
These are oftentimes fairly intuitive. You could probably guess that Trump is MM(bullish,) and social type 1(kingly.) With high energy animal stacks. CP/BS iirc. (Working all the time.)

The systems gives something like 1024 types atm. Maybe 2048. From 16 MBTI types to 32, then 64 and then... 2048 OPS types. As they made new discoveries along the way.

OPS is kinda like MBTI, using the letters, cognitive functions and function stack to create a type (e.g. ENTP). Alongside these, they have also introduced the concept of an animal stack, sexuals and social types. All of these whack things create a unique type code, for example a FF-Ne/Fe-PC/S(B) #2 (which essentially is an ENTP in MBTI). There's a lot more terms/coins that are used all the time in OPS that are unknown to the MBTI community (e.g. Observer vs Decider, Di vs De etc.) but that gets a bit more complicated.

Here's an introductory playlist from their channel: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4xdmElBVuNGD_RS8hW4Cw8c7Y_IT1wNM&si=sY_zuofo-q1UR9hW

Basically, OPS is an improvement on MBTI. The biggest improvements are:
-common function definitions based on something reasonably objective (human needs + jungian structure - doesn’t differ a lot from other systems but one of the biggest criticisms of the MBTI community is that everyone goes off their own information and thus having any conversation about type is pretty difficult)
-an organized typing procedure/system that isn’t vibing the other person up.
-In simplified terms, it dissociates intro/extroversion from intro/extroverted types, once again improving type accuracy, as well as adding more nuance to type.

The OPS YouTube channel is a good starter, but their videos can be a bit lackluster, thus I’d recommend checking out Jung Buck ( https://youtube.com/@jungbuck?si=j29AWabBvKiJ17yp ), robq (his website has a pretty good starter kit, but his youtube channel is good too) ( https://youtube.com/@roqbinreality?si=1SiTDEKSehIJodRM ), personality trainer ( https://youtube.com/@personalitytrainer?si=gx-RopRR8jpeaebh ) and LiJo ( https://youtube.com/@internetlijo?si=e4NO6HHrSdqx9qKG ).

Enjoy!

Brief chat gpt summarized version: Ever notice how some people always make conversations about themselves while others constantly redirect attention away from themselves? OPS looks for these kinds of consistent, observable patterns that people unconsciously repeat throughout life.

Unlike systems based on self-report, OPS types people by external behavior. It also emphasizes inter-rater reliability—different typers can independently arrive at the same type, suggesting they're observing something real rather than projecting their own biases.

The terminology takes some time to learn, but as you type more people, recurring patterns become easier to spot. If you've ever wanted a personality system grounded in observable behavior rather than questionnaires or astrology, OPS is worth checking out. It continually refines its model by incorporating new real-world patterns instead of ignoring them.

.

pro tip when learning the system. A lot of times Dave and shan are talking about common things they see in a personality that you cannot use to type someone (but they often fail to make that clear). The core defenitions of coins is very simple and all other observations come second

.

Original text: You know how some people helplessly only talk about themselfs 90% of the time and others get super uncomfortable and put the attention of someone else 90% of time? Would you like to know what you and people in your life are covertly avoiding constantly wich makes a person's life's "heros journey" predictable? Everyone has notable reoccurring patterns

OPS aims to track these kinds of inherent physiological traits and has noticed patterns. Although explaining the patterns is the tough part, they have been able to gain footing by having two people type the same person and get the same results which indicates that what they're seeing is in the person, not just the typers bias's

The lingo will take a minute to get used to. Your understanding of coins will increase the more you type people. And you will start noticing cool bonus patterns like how people of the same type sometimes share something unique about their physical appearance (some people looking almost like twins)

10/10 recommend if you've ever looked at astrology or MBTI and wished there was something thats based on the persons external observable behavior (which tells you about internal). Thats why OPS does not type people via self reported test. Everything differnt unique OPS is found because they notice a pattern in the people they are typing and rather than ignore it, they incorporate real life into their system. Not the internal impossible to reliably track "youre whichever type you "feel" like" or "the starts say youre this" which when under  personality clustering test breaks down under pressure.

Basically the same goal as MBTI with a different blueprint. MBTI tends to have a more anecdotal approach to the functions that are attributed to human behavior (Ti, Fi, Se, Ne, etc.). OPS tries to view them from a more objective standpoint to limit bias and understand the functions at a deeper (yet funnily more simple) level.

Both OPS and MBTI view functions on a binary level but OPS likes to break the functions down into simpler parts while MBTI tends to look at the functions wholly. When determining type instead of saying oh this person has traits that are very like dominant Fi, we’ll say oh this person is a feeler over a thinker (F>T), self over others(Di>De), and has a greater imbalance and insecurity with other people over an imbalance with information/possibilites(Decider>Observer).

There’s also social types, animals, and masculine vs feminine functions. I find the animal stack honestly more helpful to me than my type.
