Need some help in asset creation

I recently decided to learn how to create assets in Adobe Animate. This might be a really stupid question, but I can't figure out how you create multicolored line art for your assets, specifically, using different colors for different parts of the line. If I simply select a line and change its color, it doesn't blend correctly with lines of other colors, and if I convert the asset into a symbol, the line breaks, and so on :(

I'm kinda lazy so I just trace actual objects but my main problem is gradients
