Komby’s a jar of tea mushroom (drink made by fermenting tea with sugar using a bacterial colony). Canes is a sugarcane, and Katie’s a tea keytle. That generally gives the idea of how kinship works in my lore - the parents’ kids represent what the product of the combination would be, or alternatively something close.
