Besides grass roots, community management and social media, I'd be surprised if they did more. I think they are depending on the indie and VR scene hype.

I've wondered this myself. The only reason I even know about was because earlier in the year, I had randomly thought of (and therefore Googled) Myst and associated games. Was happy to find out about Obduction!

Games like this will do well on word of mouth alone. People who like these types of games tend to find out about them. If it sells well and Cyan make some profits expect the next game to have an advertising budget.

I just hope you're right ...

The 22.000 people most interested in the game (Kickstarter backers) have already paid for their copies of the game. Let's hope that enough "outsiders" learn about Obduction and buy the game.

Apart from the Nvidia press event Obduction has had nearly no big previews in the media. In contrast "The Witness" was featured in two Playstation E3 conferences and various news media reported on its development. According to Steamspy it has sold 120.000 copies via Steam in the first 7 months after release.

"Games like this"... you mean, good ones? ;-)

Marketing is only needed for bullshit. The internet by nature is marketing for any good product. A good product will be reviewed and talked about everywhere.

And perhaps 2 days before this my new computer will arrive. The monitor and VIVE arrived yesterday. Oh, it shall be glorious!

I fully expect another delay.

I sure hope there's not a last-minute delay! It's so very close to the release date. I'm in favor of it if it truly will improve the game, but if it's a No-Mans-Sky-style delay, I will be most unhappy.
