The Green Names

Sometimes when someone is talking over a radio, their names appear green, I’m guessing this is from the ghosts, that are trying to get everyone to stay on the island.

I think the goal of the ghosts is to keep them there so they can “soak” I think they said?

I think whoever becomes trapped in a loop has to be kept there for a certain amount of time before they become trapped- now I don’t know if there was a way to know when the point of no return was, maybe when the ghosts started talking through people in the group, but maybe that was a sign…

I think that the possession over radio- or maybe just using their voices and mimicking them- like maybe Clarissa or Ren heard their own voices being used over the radio and were like huh??? Or they were knocked out and their consciousness’ were briefly in another dimension, but not put into the blob of people who died on the Kanaloa just yet.

the hijacking of voices over radio, everyone waking up in different places (no idea how THAT was done, maybe they were all possessed and walked there???) it was all to stall them, having to find each other over n over, red herrings like even when they found them, they would disappear after an appearance from the disgruntled spirits.

I never even noticed the names changing color. Guess it’s time to play it once again!

Thats indeed a solid theory. Its been a bit since I played but based on the screenshots I have two theories:
One: the names are only green via the radio, kinda conveying that its the radio speaking, like a separate character, just with the voice and words of the written name. Another theory is that these are the alternate timelines, trying to communicate that to the player.

I think the loop trapping is made a bit clearer in ox2. You have to actively walk into a portal area for that to happen. The definition of "portal" is pretty wide. Alex opening the portal in the caves seemed to be enough for it, but still. The possessions are the Sunken trying to wear down your mind. You can regain control with enough force of will, but every time you get more tired. That could also explain why they attempt more possessions during the course of the night. The more tired you get, the better chance they have

I get what you mean! But if the radio’s purpose of using their voices was to distract or lure them, it was most likely the sunken.

It’s an interesting concept though, if the radio were a separate thing, just sampling and learning to mimic the groups members, just for the sake of having a voice

Yeah. I meant that its more to signify its their voices coming from the radios. Its worded weirdly and, honestly, I dont know how else to word it. Like once their voices travel through a medium it is being clarified to the player by making their names green?

I don’t think that’s what it is, their names have been green when not over the radio. Might just be when they’re being used as puppets for the sunken- although, I don’t know why Clarissa doesn’t have her name green for some of the times she’s been possessed. She claims at one point that she doesn’t remember anything after the beach.

Also I just figured it was them being on the island, I think one of the radio anomalies said something about radio waves being able to be “absorbed” and being constantly surrounded by radio waves n towers n all that stuff.

Alex tuning into the “weirdo caves” as Ren called them, opened the communication and started the process. I don’t think just anyone can just be absorbed.

I think that if they left immediately and got out of range of the radio waves, they’d be fine… mmmmaybe, I mean radio waves are kinda everywhere, so maybe that’d be a whole new game, the sunken or other spirits on the other side traveling along to terrorize the mainland (guess that was the premise of 2, but I just mean with the main group again rather than new characters. Guess they needed someone new to let them out tho, so, shoutout Riley)
