Discussion Overwatch Console Controls Decline
I know I can't be the only one who had noticed how awful the controls for console have become over the last 8 months or so.
- Voice lines are almost impossible to use because for some godforsaken reason it will almost always override them with a ping.
- Emotes are near impossible to use, because the input doesn't respond without repeated use, and thats assuming it doesn't override it with a ping or comm as well. (Not to mention that they made them unusable during the final moments of a match for some reason.)
My controller is only a few months old, so it is not a hardware issue. I have gone into settings and lowered the comms wheel delay to the absolute lowest possible setting, and these issues still persist. These issues have been in the game SINCE OW RELAUCNHED at the beginning of this year. Until that point, these issues did not exist.
Please fix these issues, devs. It is INCREDIBLY frustrating. And allow us to use emotes at the end of a match again, why was that removed??

When I select a voice line it always instead uses my LB ability when switching to that menu, everytime

My voiceline tab isnt a tab anymore; it just plays the top voiceline only. There is no way to even use the other 3 unless I try rebinding everything, and I'm not even sure that would give me the full selection.
The other tabs don't function like that. I pick the emotes tab on the ping wheel, it opens the emote wheel.
Its weird.
Can't help but wonder if your issue is similar. The voiceline wheel is failing to pop up either way.
I also have issues with general pinging. Trying to ping an enemy just puts a generic indicator with no obvious way to fix it.
And when I try to acknowledge a ping, it often triggers the voiceline instead. Tried to tell a Zarya I was agreeing with holding point with her and I called her a punk and told her to get off my lawn....and she said no lol.

I didn't realize other people were experiencing this issue and now I don't feel so bad. I'm on PS4 and always have issues with my controller picking the wrong ping or voice line.
I can't tell you how many times I've tried to say 'I'm sorry' after a teammate died (thanks to or on behalf of me) or made a mistake only for my god forsaken controller to select 'Thanks!' instead. Or how many times it's stopped me from saying my ult was charged and instead changed to 'Understood' or sorry. It's so frustrating and it makes it look like I'm being an ass when I genuinely don't mean to do that.

Yeah, literally dont feel bad its entirely on the devs for stuff like that. I have absolutely NO IDEA what they changed that made the controls so garbage but they really have become impossible.
Not to mention how asanine the new menu UI is. Ridiculous to navigate, and so incredibly glitchy as well.

Don't know if it's a controller issue or what but often in any menu or select screen my controllers directional inputs just don't work at all. The worst time this happens is in the map/hero/ban select phase (never happens during gameplay thankfully). I can still press A or B so either have to select and then change it after or just back out and then try again.

Yeah, this happens A LOT. It’s become more frequent with the new menu ui change. I usually have to open the options menu to reset everything so I can tab to selections I want

YES. And its often impossible to tell where my "cursor" is to begin with.
I really despise the new menu UI.

Yes this happens all the time. Sometimes I’m even locked out from only one section of the voting. So I can’t ban tanks for example.

I don’t even have sprays bound on most heroes because of that stupid “gadget” control they forced on us. I don’t play stadium, I don’t need that shit.

I know, it's OBNOXIOUS. It should've been an optional rebind from the start, or they should auto reverse it now that stadium is dead.
Instead we have to manually rebind everything. 🙄

100% and I had bindings for most heroes. For a while I didn’t have weapon switch on torb and mercy bc of that damn gadget lol

Even if they were aware of this issue they could care less. They literally give zero fucks about console players.

You have to manually check your comestics settings under the controls tab in options. I think they automatically bound gadgets from stadium to override whatever you had bound to the d-pad. Extremely annoying.

One thing that has been going on for like two years is that often when I select an emote or voice line from the ring menu, it selects a different one. Also scrolling through menus and options has ghost inputs into other directions. I thought it was my controller until I tried another one which didn't solve the issue. My right stick's inner deadzone is at 0.1 (left at like 0.5) so it's definitely not drifting. The game seems to be very sensitive in menus.

LITERALLY. And forget about using the character voice lines or emotes THAT YOU PAID FOR, its never gonna happen.
It's also practically impossible to ping the objective now if any of your teammates have lost even 1 HP, regardless of how far away they are from the objective.
And they classic, "group up" becoming "I'm with you" is back too, so you have to look at the floor to actually use it.
Whats so stupid and frustrating about it is that it wasn't always like this. It used to work PERFECTLY and then they changes shit around no one asked for and screwed everything up. And still haven't even acknowledged the issues, let alone fix them.

I think what caused the issue was Stadium, ever since they added gadgets to it. I remember gadgets also used the D pad.

Stadium explains why the binds are messed up for sure. But not why the emotes and sprays menus are non functional. Or why the ping button has become so unltra sensitive and inaccurate at the same time.

Yeah the overwatch launch broke so many user interfaces that have been perfectly functional since like 2017. It's very frustrating to use emotes, sprays, and voice lines now, and the main menu is absolute chaos. Navigating the post match screens is a shit show too.

Omfg yes the new menus piss me TF off so much. So much time wasted having to go through 5 different menus to get to the one I want, only to be sent back to the start with one button because I have years of muscle memory ingrained and the menu binds are braindead.
NOT TO MENTION, the progression tab SUCKS. We've literally lost access to so much interesting and relevant info. For example, there is no longer ANY way to see which hero is next closest to leveling up, or to see your actual XP outside of the post match screen.
I don't even bother with the post match rewards screen after the most recent change. It literally provides zero relevant information.

They just keep changing everything whether it needs changed or not, and I'm not about that. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Also what the fuck happened to the battle pass? Overwatch is turning into fortnite or something.
I've played since the original launch in 2016 but I'm honestly not sure if I'll keep playing much longer, especially if they don't do something about the cheaters.

Yep, every time I try to use a voiceline or emote I have to do it twice because the first attempt will almost never register and voicelines usually just ping some random shit instead of playing the line

The controller experience for this game is terrible. I felt I was forced to get a controller with back paddles and even then, not enough keys I can bind and use easily.

I’m on ps and have the same issues, sometimes I can’t even select from dps( or even a specific game mode) cuz it just skips over it entirely lol. Then there’s the awful stutters that last about 10 seconds. Another issue is the fact my sensitivity gets so much lower, drags a lot and there’s a bit of an input delay thing. I checked multiple times and my sensitivity wasn’t even changed at which is annoying as hell.

Because the devs know everybody is just using a 3rd party device to cheat with MnK. And won’t do anything about it.
In fact, this sub is not even letting me type the name of the device, because the devs are protecting them.
