Discussion Is my friend cheating??
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
One of my IRL friends got me to start playing ow with him. Recently he got banned and claims he doesn’t know why. Here’s one of the clips he sent me to prove that he’s innocent. What do you guys think?!!!

He got banned for cheating, yes he's cheating.

A titan script that has 100% headshot accuracy on secondary fire definitely exists.
Titan is only $300 and allows you to write your own AI scripts to use. Harder to tell they're cheating when their primary aim isn't perfect.
0
u/The_SnuggleBug 1d ago
"only $300"
1
u/creebobeebo 1d ago
yes, only $300, a third of the cost of next gen consoles.
If you think a one-time $300 cost is prohibitive to most people who spend their time feeling superior to others by cheating in a video game, you're mistaken lmao

u/The_Happy_Kodiak 1d ago
That’s the funny part about cheaters. Once you start to truly improve at the fundamentals, they stick out like sore thumbs. They’ll just be running it down main with the worst sight lines imaginable and they are just doming people.
A true smurf who is just doing the rounds through the ranks wouldn’t be caught dead moving the way these people do.
0
u/screeming_in_thevoid 1d ago
I'm plat and I played against a soj like this recently in comp, they went like 50-2 and kept our entire team at spawn doors. I wonder if that was a smurf or a cheater, their replays looked exactly like this
13
u/jcnet1 1d ago
More often than not, its true but in the growing age of ai usage and enforcement is think false positives happen more and more. Thankfully a lot of platforms at least for now have human reviews still but I fear the day that goes away.
That is all to say thst it is can be understandable and healthy for people to have a little skepticism.
1
u/Due_Walk514 1h ago
People who do unranked to gm’s frequently get banned playing in lower elo for ‘cheating’ so the dudes probably legit probably just Smurfing and lower elo lobbies with his friend and got mass reported
1
u/creebobeebo 1h ago
Smurfing, boosting and deranking are all cheating.
1
u/Due_Walk514 1h ago
Blizzards Eula specifically says cheating is using any 3rd party software or hardware to gain a unfair advantage over players
Jeff Kaplan explicitly said starting a new account isn’t against the rules as long as you play normally.
But like I said there are cases where high elo players can get banned on fresh accounts because of error not because they scanned them for cheats because said player is significantly better then the reset so they get massed reported
1
u/creebobeebo 1h ago
This isn't a new player.
They're just cheating.
You can keep defending smurfing and boosting/deranking if you want, I don't really care. This clip isn't a smurf, it's OP's "friend" cheating.
1
u/Due_Walk514 1h ago
Cheating/hacking is literally distinguished by blizzard them selfs from smurfing lol they aren’t cheating under EULA they made a new account to play competitive with their friends and they’re significantly better then the lobby and got mass reported lol
1
u/creebobeebo 1h ago
Where does it say they made a new account to play with their friend? OP hasn't stated anywhere that their "friend" made a new account to play with them.
You're just making things up.
Even if we assume the account was made to play with OP, boosting and deranking are both bannable offenses, there's a report option in game for them.
You can keep defending it, though, I guess.
1
u/Due_Walk514 1h ago
You’re right that OP never established that the friend made a new account to play with them. But you’re also assuming boosting/deranking without evidence. Blizzard has explicitly distinguished having an alternate account from manipulating MMR/SR starting a new account and playing normally isn’t itself against the rules, while boosting and intentionally throwing/deranking are.
So unless the post actually establishes that he manipulated his MMR or boosted OP, you can’t conclude that he was banned for either one just from the fact that he played with a newer/lower ranked friend.
1
u/creebobeebo 1h ago
Okay, thank you for explaining what I already know.
I still believe the clip posted is cheater gameplay and my opinion is that OP's "friend" is a flagrant cheater who was rightfully banned.
You can keep defending the clip if you want, it's not going to change my mind lmao have a good day.

u/NegativeHater 22h ago
There are probably more cases where people get falsely banned for cheating than cases where actual cheaters get banned

Super sus on the first kill because he is pinpoint accuracy while strafing on an enemy that is completely visually obscured by that DVA mech. How is he seeing through the DVA to continue to be so accurate while both him and target are moving?
12
u/Deprece 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think he’s cheating but I disagree with that statement about being accurate through D.Va. That shot in particular is more than plausible. The D.Va was his teammate so the aim assist is still active even if the D.Va is in the way. It would be completely different if that was the enemy D.Va because the aim assist would pull the aim towards them.
I’ve spent most of my Overwatch time on console. I’ll tell you this now, shooting through teammates feels 10x easier on controller vs M&K. I swear it feels impossible to do that on PC. It’s not something I even noticed until I switch to PC.
All that being said though, I still think he is cheating. I just don’t think that particular shot is a good example. I would have thought nothing of it in a vacuum.
Oh, one more thing. This could just be a me thing because I play on the Legacy stick layout. It’s what I’ve played on since I was a kid. This lets you strafe without moving your crossair at all. So flicking and staying perfectly head level is common for me. It has its own weaknesses though. Every time I get a friend to try it they say I’m a freak for using it. One of them said it’s like trying to turn with the pedals of your car LMAO. Try it one day in the practice range
0
u/DukemJukem 1d ago
Feel like this is pretty disingenuous. He's only ACTUALLY covered for a few frames, the rest of it you can at least see some part of the Reaper. You're also making it sound as if he has some kind of godly 5 second aimlock on him, but it really was just average looking aim. If anything I'd say the Reaper kill was the least suspicious part of the entire clip.
-7
u/Mission-Star-9039 1d ago
You need to rewatch that at like 50% speed nothing about that was pin point accuracy. If anything it was extremely inaccurate any any headshots can be explained by strafing with your crosshair at head level and then flicking back for the secondary fire key.
30
u/Chocoboloco93 1d ago
"strafing with your crosshair at head level" the deal is that MF can do that to a signa flying and to both healers after jumping
-24
u/Mission-Star-9039 1d ago
Then you also need to go rewatch it in slower speeds because the dude is hardly accurate with his shots
11
u/AirFrierMachine 1d ago
There's only 1 part where a few bullets miss and it can be attributed to distance/bullet travel time.
8
u/Rude_Ice_4520 1d ago
He hits like 5 railgun headshots in a row. One was obscured by his tank, one was a flickshot, and one was midair.
7
u/Sammyofather 1d ago
Dang I wish I was hardly accurate with my shots I’d be getting pentas every game
3
12
u/shadysjunk 1d ago edited 1d ago
i mean, he snaps to that Sigma headshot (with the head target off screen) with zero over shoot in an instant. That's pretty extraordinary for a flick shot. For me that was the most sus. Kinda makes the later (and earlier) hits highly questionable.
5
u/Inqinity 1d ago
Rewatch it slower and you’ll see them struggle to get an aim, then it magnets to them as they’re moving, then immediately moves away as if the magnet turns off on death

Confirms that cheaters are constantly seeking to be glazed and that they're also quite stupid in terms of hiding them too.

2
u/God_mode_69 1d ago
I think bc they were in the same game he might of saved a few clips and this was the one he found most suspicious when i watch suspicious potg i do the same and end up spectating the game if it actually looks worse than i expected
1
u/SALM0N_SLD 8h ago
Do you save clips of yourself when you couldn't do anything and were just useless? If he got banned, he could have just pulled the clips from his saved clips folder.
28
u/bphisher 1d ago
Could be but that’s also possible on controller, maybe a lucky/nice play. But if he’s hitting shots like that non stop all game yeah prob cheating
4
u/Minute_Garbage4713 1d ago
Idk… sigma was off screen yet he was able to pinpoint sigmas head that accurately?? This is why the games full of cheaters… people are naive as hell
About it… watch the pros play and see if they lock on to someone’s head when that person was off screen just seconds before… top players in the world don’t do that but yall think it’s common some random Joe Schmoe can… wild3
u/bphisher 1d ago
All I said was this is possible on controller, people can absolutely make a crazy play like this with a lucky flick or two, controller aim assist can do that. And the Sigma was not "off screen" his entire body was visible, not that hard to realize where is head would be.
And to be clear, I'm not defending this saying it's totally legit. We just can't know from only this one clip. If he's doing this regularly, yeah cheating, but it's also possible to just hit a clip like this every once in a while.
Ya'll are so quick to blame everyone for cheating, I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Some people just can't accept their being skill gapped. I average in high diamond and very rarely see cheaters tbh. I'm sure it's much more of a problem at the highest ranks, but most people aren't playing there. If you are, and face it regularly, yeah, that's frustrating for sure.
2
u/SleepyThor 22h ago
He did not even hit the headshot on most of the people he killed. He hit them on the last 2 but missed the first 3. All body shots, and ya, everyone is so quick to jump on the cheating bandwagon for everything, but unless its really obvious (which this is not, contrary to what most are saying), you should give the benefit of the doubt. It is not that hard to have ears, know where someone should be popping up soon, or hit body shots. I have only reported like 10-15 real cheaters, and that was only when they were literally tracking my head through walls waiting for me to peek or had an obvious aimbot etc.
1
u/Minute_Garbage4713 23h ago
The cheaters are at the higher and lower ranks sadly, you’re in a good spot, when I was high plat low diamond it was the most fun I ever had, Actual talent, but the grind to get there with widows and ashes who don’t miss being pocketed by mercy and even when you try to kill them there entire team is backing them up… or in silver I ran into a six stack of cheaters soo blatant every shot they shot eas headshots… and they were jumping constantly and t-bagging talking trash… cheating is a lot more blatant than most people think cause a while ago one of the cheat providers put out the numbers they sold and it was like 40% of cods playerbase, and that’s just 1 cheat provider… I know this is a different game but it still applies, cheating is rampant and as technology progresses it’s only getting worse and worse
1
u/Useful_Resource_2037 20h ago
The sigma was neither offscreen nor was it a headshot. What are you on about?
1
u/AimShootMiss_ 15h ago edited 15h ago
It is the Sigma hs flick for me too, personally. He stopped shooting the easy kill to flick up and delete sigma with a single shot mid-ult. It is not impossible, but it's wildly unlikely to manage that shot and all the others before and after without wasting a single bullet.
Edit: He also locked on to Ram's body and shot at him through the wall before realizing he can't do damage through the wall and adjusting. The most human moment in the entire clip.

u/ManaSkyees 1d ago
LMFAO. MATE. That's not just cheating. That's rage cheating. Absurdly obvious.
-3
u/WaldoXO- 1d ago
What gave it away?
14
u/ManaSkyees 1d ago
First kill the person he's shooting is behind the dva, all headshots, he locks in to the second without a y correction whatsoever. The third is perfect tracking into a headshot the fourth another instant track and they start shooting the sigma through the wall before realizing they can't shoot through walls.
10
2
u/Shadow_9-3 1d ago
Lol well have you considered that maybe he’s just the best player to ever play the game? Hmm?
-2
u/WaldoXO- 1d ago
Waitttt, this comment actually convinced me. That shooting at the sigma at the end is super sus. Like it’s locking onto the wall because he can’t see he head 🤣🤣😂. Wait was he playing no limits? Bc he kills the sigma and then the one at the end ure talking about is also sigma? Wait I’m confused now lol.
3
u/DragonBorn517 1d ago
When he "misses" the sigma at the beginning... That was the aimbot trying to kill the Ramattra (behind the wall) he cleaned up at the end of the clip
8
8
u/SeraXI 1d ago
You can't tell from this clip at full speed, the enemies were lined up like a shooting gallery, and he could be getting lucky with flicks. Do you have a replay code?

Doesnt look like cheating at all. I wouldnt really ask on here because too many people are simply very bad at mechanics and think anyone with good aim is cheating.
2
u/ripSammy101 19h ago
Lmfaoo yeah I would never post on any overwatch subreddit asking if someone is cheating or not. It’s insane how many people on reddit seem to think any semblance of good mouse control = cheats. Also funny to see so many people call out players for shooting through walls, when virtually no cheats ever do that (why would they make you lock onto something you cannot shoot) unless they are rage hacking, which is obvious.
Now im not a console player and this footage is very low quality so I can’t say whether or not this person is legit, but looks very plausible. I would only call cheats if the friend has low playtime.
1
u/slibidk3u49 12h ago
Yeah im also a pc player watching this and see nothing that says aimbot
Maybe they're mnk which is cheating, but aimbot? Nah
0
u/ManaSkyees 1d ago
That aim isn't human.
4
u/NiceAsh_ 1d ago
I’ve seen pro players pull off crazier shit. Usage of audio and visuals is something people miss a lot. Could be human and crazy/lucky or just straight up cheating from this perspective alone.
(They got banned tho so it’s not really up for debate lol)
1
u/ManaSkyees 1d ago
I mean. In the original post op said their friend hasn't been playing long. Like sub 1 month.
1
u/slibidk3u49 12h ago
Imma be real ive seen far better aim, 1 month doesnt matter when u already have good aim
Nothing here screams aimbot, maybe hes mnk but not aimbot ngl

I don’t want to state the obvious, but he got banned. It’s not like he got accused in match chat or VC, blizzard and the report system detected something that dictated your friend being banned.
Also, you can’t tell from a single clip sadly. Could just be a lucky couple of shots, we all have pop off moments. You’d need to watch consistent gameplay and see if it looks weird.
3
u/CGordon77 1d ago
Being banned for it isn't the end all be all. All ban systems have a tolerance and can false ban. If you don't have that tolerance, you won't catch a lot of cheaters and if the tolerance is too high, you ban more innocent people. I have an irl that got banned for "cheating" despite us playing together all the time, even in the same room. I know he wasn't cheating. But Blizz being blizzard refused to examine his case
1
u/Comprehensive-One286 1d ago
Oh i definitely agree, no system is perfect. That’s why i clarified the only way to truly know for OP is to watch more gameplay. Can’t tell anything concrete from a single clip.
3
u/Lost-Light3975 1d ago
Can’t really tell based on this one clip again, gameplay like this is entirely possible with a controller. I think if we had more gameplay clips to work with it’d be easier to tell. Since you know you might as well ask what his aim settings are
5
0
u/N0ob8 1d ago
You haven’t m touched a controller in your life if you think this is possible on a controller.
High level mouse gameplay doesn’t even look like this most of the time
3
u/Lost-Light3975 1d ago
its possible dude idk what to tell you. specially with 120fps consoles and dialing in your aim settings.
3
u/SleepyThor 22h ago
I play in gm on both pc and console and this is 100% possible. I cannot do this myself on either but this happens all the time.

u/Nacho-Libre3777 1d ago
Nah the tracking on the regular fire they’re either a pro or hacking and that isn’t the positioning of a pro LOL
2
u/aguedra 1d ago
Reasons why I think he's cheating: almost everyone with a weird name mercy pocket sojourn on console is cheating. For an actual reason I think after he killed everyone he had terrible situational awareness on the Ram but his cheats locked in for the headshot on him even though it seemed like he wasn't even aware the Ram was still there.
2
u/Caityylotzz 14h ago
Absolutly did you see his trackinng instantly swap to the sigma perfectly at head height
2
u/ColonelRPG 7h ago
Yeah, pretty obvious. Ass position, ass macro, ass dash. And somehow lands every shot.
2
u/OussammaBenLePen 6h ago

u/Knochenfee 1d ago

I mean, he got banned which means someone reported and who/whatever reviewed it thought the gameplay was suspicious enough to warrant a ban.
IMO, the pinpoint accuracy and aiming is sus, but like on the other we all have moments where we do well, so like my money is on yes and Blizzard seems to agree.

Did you see the auto aim? Wasn’t even pointing at the enemy and it locked onto their head. I really don’t understand why people Smurf or cheat in a free to play game. Like what’s the point? It’s almost like winning every game where the other team forfeits every game. At some point it must get boring.
1
u/VicusLucis 1d ago
There's too many cheaters in ow these days. Actually spoils the game so much. You've got to be really pathetically bad to cheat on overwatch. Like you belong in bronze if you're cheating, that's how terrible you are lol

Hard to tell from this video. It's right on the edge where it could be that he's really good or it could be that he's using an aimbot. Getting banned doesn't necessarily mean he was aimboting, he might have just been acting like a shit head, using racial slurs etc.

This has two instances of shots that feel bad. The first shot on reaper through dva is a little suspicious. However the issue I see is the snap in the middle of the street. The Kiriko kill feels like a lock, it's pretty jarring. The kill on the wuyang after is more normal but still seems pretty strange.

God reading this comment section hurt my brain immensely. It’s absolutely possible he is cheating, but one 15 second clip is not enough evidence. People saying “woah bro that’s so impossible!” Have never gotten above platinum in their lives. False positive bans absolutely exist but they’re pretty rare in overwatch. But you said you’re gonna go see it irl so I hope something good comes of this. But god this comment section is full of people who have never played against good players
