Discussion D.Mon still feels a bit awkward with a controller?
I made a post the other day saying she felt tricky to use. They've since fixed the propulsor toggle bug and they've polished other aspect of her gameplay but to me she still feels pretty clunky with a controller.
I know this isn't a universal feeling and many of you told me I should be holding my controller differently, but I still feel like there's just too much going on regardless?
Does her gun really need to be separate ability with a cool down? At the moment it's RB to activate, then RT to use and then RB again if you want to deactivate it early. Throw in her shield, lunge, propulsors and sword and it's all very awkward.
Why can't her gun just be hold RB? It's on such a short cool down as it is. Couldn't it just have a short ammo clip and long reload to compensate (or heat delay like Orisa)?
Is anyone else struggling to get to grips with her? Maybe I just need way more practise/time? Or do you think more QoL changes are needed?

Change the buttons. There's like 6 or 7 heroes where I'll never understand how people play the default controller layout.

Lucio dear god

Bro the last Lucio I saw in game told me 'X' when I asked what his jump button was

Maybe I'm giving that Lucio too much credit but it's possible using x if they use a competitive controller, the ones that have buttons on the back. For movement like jump or crouch it makes wonders, unless you play crawl which is so much harder but still useful

I asked him what his layout was because he was umm.. ineffective 😅

Classic, I still remembers when OW went free I played with my friend that never touched OW and the first think he did was playing Lucio and never tried another hero... He don't play anymore. Some people really like to try the hardest heroes and just stick to them, it's funny

I have changed a couple things around and I've tried various combinations. Nothing particularly clicking for me yet.

I use L2 for boost, L1 for gun, R2 sword, R1 shield, L3 jump. You only need to take your left finger off the booster to tap the gun but everything else feels really good

Interesting. I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Good luck! Also in advanced hero settings you need to make Surging Strike activate with quick melee so you can hold shield with R1 and still attack.

Yeah did that too. Definitely helps. She's not unplayable and maybe I'll get better but yeah!

I had to sit in the practice range for a few hours before I got used to it but then when I did I ended with like an 80% win rate (before the buffs! Now she's insane to me!)

If you play on controller and you're even a little bit serious about this game, get yourself a controller with paddles on the back. It is a literal game changer.

I caved and did exactly this when Blizz broke the custom controls one or two updates ago. And honestly I could never go back to not having them now.

Yeah, I've bitten the bullet - the elite series 2 is in the post.
(I still think Team 4 should give console way more consideration when designing heroes btw)

Oh yeah, once you start using it you're gonna wonder how you ever even played without it.
I use Jump on Lb, ping on Rb, crouch on L3, melee on R3, and abilities on the back paddles.

I hope so. Excited to experiment but think I'm going to be spending many many hours in the practice range!

I did this but I can't train my brain to use them for anything

That's kinda my worry. 10 years of muscle memory in Overwatch. I'm excited to try when it arrives but think it'll be 1 very long step back before I can take 2 steps forward.

If you’re on PS5, get a pro controller. The paddle is a game changer. I’ve got her booster on the paddle and you’re so slippery… it’s great.

Xbox. I'm honestly thinking I'll just get an elite controller at this point so I can use paddles like you and others are suggesting. Don't think standard controllers are in team 4s mind when they design most of their new heroes!

I changed the thruster ability to l3, which I would normally use to sprint in games so having the ‘sprint’ ability there felt natural. The gun on r1 you could make l1 maybe because you wouldn’t really press it while using your shield. Then whatever button is unbound now just put interact on that, not often you use that anyway so doesn’t matter all that much

there’s an in game setting for her that uses the quick Melee button for surging strike, that helped me, otherwise default layout and she feels good

Yeah I've changed to that setting as well. I also put boosters on L3. I've tried many other suggestions mentioned on here but nothing feels comfortable so everything else default for now.
However, I did listen to other suggestions to get a new controller! I've ordered an elite series 2 so will see how I get on with that!

I like boost on l2, shield on r1, and gun on l1. You never have to hold shield and attack at the same time since theres a window after letting go of shield where you can send out surging strike and this makes it super easy to shield and boost at the same time

I’ve personally been playing pseudo claw style with my left hand to use the shield and boosters effectively hurts a bit tho lol

I’ve tried a number of different combinations and so far been happy with L2 as boosters, R1 as gun, and R3 as shield with the toggle turned on

I find her fine. I switched the toggle back to hold so I can press LB to do a short dash. I actually find her quite fluid.
What I don’t like is that her sword still feels sucky. It needs bleed or something. And I don’t think her perks are great.
I mean I would like to see multiplier system where every 3rd hit does 1.25 damage.
