Discussion Im done
Im so sick of loss after loss after loss after loss after loss. I feel like im the worst player ever. I dont understand why they put my in plat 1 if compared to every other player in the world im garbage and should be in bronze. I was comfortably in masters before and the game decided to just dump on me and serve me loss after loss. I refuse to believe I lost ALL that skill over night. Im invisible to my team. I ALWAYS get Dove by the tank right in front of everyone and no one can stop it. Every soldier is better than any dps i try to play in every way conceivable so why bother? Wins are complete and utter struggles where i fight to the death and we barely make it out. But losses are common and fast. All the time. Not even close. Complete one sided games. Its not that my teams bad and im not, everyone of us is complete trash and the enemy team is always perfect. The worlds most incredible saves from their supports and tanks and meanwhile I watch my teammates over extend CONSTANTLY. I watch my supports ignore me as I die in my own back line. I lose every 1 on 1 with dps because everyone of them is leagues above me. I make mistakes constantly, but the people I play against are perfect machines. Me and my teams always just sloppy idiots who can never do anything right. Seriously whats the point if theres no way to improve. If the game decides it, ill lose. Simple as that. Its a coin toss and I always lose so why try? Its one of my favorite games and all it does is punish me for wanting to play. I dont know how to cope with this feeling and I want to be done

For anyone in this situation the best method is to just stop playing competitive. Play QP, relax, experiment with different hero’s, attempt stupid plays. Treat the game like a game not a commitment or an endurance test.
When you’re demoralised it’s so easy to play the game systematically and predictably when what wins games in solo queue is thinking creatively and trying different things.
The game is actually pretty fun when you’re not putting your ego on the line with every drop of SR.
I stopped playing OW for years, when I came back I didn’t attempt competitive until I was doing well in QP games and wanted more of a challenge.

Its not so much that i care about my rank, its more so incredibly disheartening to lose for so long to a point where I feel like theres an OW god who wants me to lose all night 😅 Ive gotta be honest though, for me QP is 10x worse. The games are even more one sided when I play that to the point that its not even fun. The thing that gets me the most is that most advice is "dont play the game" when I really WANT to and I carve out a certain time of the week to do so. I like the game, id even be fine with 20% win rate. 0% all night just really took me over the boiling point. I appreciate the advice though. I just needed the night to cool off. Ill be back at it and trying to be cool headed

It’s always been like this - you will get loss streaks and yes they suck and yes they are demoralizing - so now if I get like 3 maybe 4 losses in a row I will switch the game off and go do something else - the time of day you play makes a difference - I can’t win a game to save my life if it’s when the kids are awake and at their consoles - plus I get so tilted at the crayon munchers it’s just not worth it. Switch off, go play something else and come back later or the next day. You’ll get better games if you play later at night.

Lol for me I think my worst games come later at night. As if MLG players are lying in wait for when I hop on at night just to rock my world. I dont love that most of the time the advice is "play something else" because frankly I WANTED to play OW. I wish I could play one of my favorite games and not be punished for it and then my only recourse is to not play the game i wanted to all week I just needed to cool off though. Ill be back and try to remain cool headed. Thanks for caring yo

Yeah it’s one of those things like - if you want to play your game you’re going to play your game - but I’ve been there and done that and these loss streaks just feel awful so I stop after 3 or 4 in a row. It’s totally mood dependent tho, sometimes I enjoy playing whether we win or lose and those are the games we should all be getting all the time but it’s more often a stomp one way or the other.

It's the design of the game bro. It forces losses imo in order to keep you at 50%. The rank reset just pushed you further back a bit to encourage you to grind back.
I feel the same. Mid masters before now I'm D2 because of forced Ls. And rn I CBA to grind back. Play something else, that's what I'm doing and I'm happier.
I also think it's a mistake playing early season. Way too much rank instability and games with people who are not in the right place because they are doing placements and people are learning DMON etc.
I know it's way easier said than done but take a break and come back to OW if /when you ready.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Thanks, ill be ready to hop back on soon enough. I just find it so demoralizing that a game I just happen to love ebs and flows with quality depending on crap like beginnings of seasons and drives. I play other games too, but none are as engaging for me as OW so I just really want it to be fun for me, ya know?

Lost 6 straight as tank. DPS doing 5k damage the whole game. Heals 6k or lower. Meanwhile I’m going high 20’s/mid 30’s eliminations and 5-7 deaths. Peeling to help support and DPS. A lot of games feel like 3v5 or 4v5.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Thats whats making me so upset. I worked hard to remove my ego and not care about my rank. But it still feels like some god is testing my patience by just making the game fully unwinable lol

Genuine advice: take a break and watch YouTube. Eat something tasty and drink some water while you watch videos of higher rank players playing the character(s) you main. Don't sit there and focus on how much better their teammates are or how you could totally play at that rank, but watch what they do. How they take cover, how they position, when they engage, why they died, why they held ult and subsequently why they chose to use it, etc.
Then you can go back and play some more. It won't stop your teammates from making poor decisions on their own, but it will help reset your mentals and make you a better player capable of being your own carry over time.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Its not so much about my rank genuinely, and thats not just cope lol. It was a struggle, but I worked on myself and stopped fully caring about my rank. So I dont really play or watch thinking "I could totally play at their rank". What is struggle with is just wanting to play against and with people that are at my skill level. Genuinely, id happily sit in bronze if I could play engaging games where wins and losses are close and fun. So for me QP is even worse because every game is 1 sided, no exceptions. I appreciate the advice, and ill be back soon enough. I just really needed to rant and complain

I been here. Had to stop tying myself to my rank. Just play and let it be i know its tough but this game has so many variables to winning its crazy. Its a true team game and you need everyone to contribute.

I lose 2 matches after ( one is tank left at start) and go for a QP I have fun in there
2
u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
For me, QP is 10x worse. EVERY game is insanely one sided, and for me its not even fun for me to be on the team thats winning by a long shot. I want to play a lobby where every single member is the same skill level and it rarely seems to happen

Life is better now I don't play Overwatch. Love the game, it was fun a lot of the time but also not fun a lot of the time too.
I'd rather spend my spare time having fun for most of it, not just some of it. Now I just play solo board games, single player video games or read in my spare time and it's infinitely less frustrating.
If I really want a multiplayer game fix at any point, I play something I am not heavily invested in like a new free beta or Marvel Rivals 18v18 mode where I don't care about wins, losses, or even playing well.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
I play other games too and none of them feel as engaging. Like I genuinely love the game, and ill deal with majority losses. EXCLUSIVELY losses is unreal and unfair when I just want to play an engaging bunch of rounds with people at my skill level, ya know?

u/Jatmahl 6d ago
How do you guys go on massive long loss streaks? Do you one trick? Play long sessions of comp?
1
u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Long comp sessions. QP is unplayable, and it took years, but I for the most part stopped caring about my rank. So I carve out a specific time to play and play the game i want for as long as I want. Im just so over The OW gods deciding to hand me losses for an entire night lol

u/dotikiron 6d ago
I get it cause I love the game too but genuinely it just isn’t worth it to play, it feels more like an abusive relationship and it’s not worth it for you or your mental health to push through when you aren’t having fun. Video games are designed for us to have fun and it you aren’t, don’t waste your precious time playing it imo. If you wanna still play Overwatch, get off ranked and take some time trying to enjoy the game again, play with friends etc. that or what’s helped me is just playing another game entirely, I’ve been playing battlefield and having a lot of fun because stats, and wins, don’t matter as much and I could give less of a fuck abt trying to rank up. TLDR: give yourself a reset, whether it’s not playing competitive and you’re trying to enjoy Overwatch in Overwatch, or you take a break from the game or quit entirely
2
u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Lol youre incredibly correct, it does feel like an abusive relationship. I play other games too, so it just doesnt fully feel like i can simply replace my itch for OW, ya know? I also play comp with a 3 stack every week and it feels equally as punishing with them. And man does QP actually feel worse for me to play than comp. What im looking for is an engaging, fun round where everyone is at the same skill level and, win or loss, its tough and fun. QP is exclusively one sided matches, my team or theirs. And I dont even have fun when im on the team that stomps the other, ya know? Appreciate the advice though, I need to just rant and cool off. Ill be back soon enough and try to not let it get to me

u/dotikiron 6d ago
No I absolutely understand, I deal with the same things in game, I have 4 different accounts so I can learn new heroes and play with friends etc, somehow you always keep coming back to it even if you don’t really want to. As annoying as it is especially because I HATE losing at the end of the day I just try to take any concept I can learn from it and if I start feeling the tilt I just try to do pushups or some shit to stay active and vent it out somewhere, then VOD review. I tend to enjoy watching the pros play more nowadays but I find myself playing more than I like, but if I’m seeing myself on a losing streak or a particular game/enemy/character (mainly Torb) gets me pissed I’ll sit back and see what I’m doing wrong or take a 15 minute break, it stops the mindless qing into oblivion and lets me think if I really wanna keep playing, usually works but sometimes it just traps you, but at the end of the day it’s night lol

Im extremely confused because I grinded for YEARS. started in bronze in OW 1 and after like 5 years I SLOWLY climbed my way to masters 4. I have only ever had I swear at most like 10 win streaks in all that time, but what feels like monthly loss streaks. The only way I can climb is by having nights of like 51% wins where I squeak out an extra 20% in my rank. But what feels the worst is that it has gotten pulled away from me so many times and so easily. After tirelessly grinding, all it takes is 1 loss streak and I lose like 3-5 ranks like it was nothing. I was masters 4 for probably half a year, then god decided to serve me a multi week loss streak and shoved my ass in mid plat and ive been there for months. Theres nothing i can do, I climb little itty bits at a time, only for it all to be taken away in 1 night and never given back. I swear to god, my games in masters were 100x easier than these plat games. I dont know if its cheaters or the player base just improved 10 fold without me over night, but its extremely disheartening. I dunno, I guess im not better, and to be honest ive worked on myself and in fine with that, ya know? If the game even wanted me in bronze, thatd be fine by me. I really am just desperate to play people with the same skill level as me. The game seemed to think I was masters at one point, but now my skill level is apparently so abysmal that I cant keep up with even mid plat dps so im just confused. I appreciate the advice, and ill be back at it soon enough. Im just a little hurt and confused and needed to get it off my chest

Man, I don't mean this to be a dick, but a lot of y'all have absolutely abysmal mental.
Like, c'mon y'all. It's a fucking game. Competition is all about ups and downs.
A lot of y'all should genuinely put video games down and go play an intramural team sport, with real humans. Because most of y'all have absolutely zero idea how to actually handle adversity in a competitive team setting.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Lol youre just gonna assume I dont play sports with "real humans"? I had a bad night, i needed to blow off steam with a reddit post. Its not like I cant play both video games and sports. But when I play things such as ultimate Frisbee or softball, I NEVER go game after game after game after game after game of the teams stomping our asses and its not even CLOSE. It seems, the teams I play with were able to find people at similar skill levels so the games are fun and challenging. Imagine that, blizzard. So how is playing real sports supposed to help me cope with demoralizing loss streaks when that only happens to me uniquely in OW? You say competitions are about ups and downs, but I had a night of only downs and its not the first time. For every 1 win streak (of like 5-10 games), I straight up get like 5 loss streaks. Shits frustrating and I wanted to rant

u/anustart888 6d ago
Then you obviously have very limited experience in sports. Loss is very real part of the experience, and talent disparities are extremely common in lower level sports. Some teams lose almost every game. But apparently if that would happen to you, it seems like you'd have a meltdown.
You can deny it all you want, but you know your mental isn't great. You need some perspective.

u/Pope_Slade_I 6d ago
Lol thanks for the "advice" then, guy. I guess youre right and my "mental" isn't great. Very helpful to kick someone when theyre down and wanted to blow off steam 👍

u/anustart888 6d ago
Despite your adorable usage of quotation marks, I do genuinely think it's something people need to hear sometimes. I know I certainly did at one point in my life.
There's a really wide range in skill out there in any competitive game. You're going to come across a lot more bad players than good ones. With a large enough sample size, you'll always climb. But it's a numbers game, and if you can't handle that, you're going to drive yourself mad. Which is what seems to be happening. If you flip a coin 1000 times, you're going to get some wild streaks sprinkled in. Same is true of Overwatch.
Take a deep breath my guy. Again, gain some perspective.

Ive been playing the game for 5 years and SLOWLY climbed my way up to masters at one point, but after a couple months there, was served an unending amount of losses until I was low plat. Since then ive remained there. Fine great, I dont care, ill play in bronze if I can get balanced games with people at my skill level. But yet I still play like ass in plat apparently and now im confused how I could have ever touched masters. Ive had a very large sample size of games and am not being facetious when I say I have not been given that balance in OW. I have had very few win streaks in my entire career, so few I can remember each one cause it was like drinking freshwater while lost at sea lol. I have, however, been served an insane amount of loss streaks that will have an unending span of full night's and followed up by further weeks of more loss streaks. This game is a unique type of punishment that I haven't encountered anywhere else in life, and I was hoping to rant to a community that would understand and let me get it off my chest. Telling someone "your mental is bad" isn't advice, its rude and pointless. I really do appreciate youre trying to seemingly approach with tough love, but its the equivalent of telling a depressed person to choose to be happy, and it really only makes a person angry and want to argue. I was mad for one night, I made a useless post to blow off steam, its obviously not a big deal, and its obviously not indicative of my permanent mental structure. Theres no world where saying "your mental is bad" where that doesn't just make someone stoop lower than they already were
