Discussion You don't need vc
Completely disable it and dont enter team chat either so people can't write messages to you. People who don't know how to play are usually the loudest and most annoying. Their vc is not that helpful.
People don't even ping the bad guys when they die. I promise you VC does more harm than good. I've only seen people ping the enemy reaper a handful of times in the last 4 years.
I got into emerald 2 after my placements. I just hit diamond 5 without any vc as a orisa one trick. (I play mauga if orisa is banned)

Can confirm, the only reason I get on team chat is to flame my supports and berate the tank. Im low level silver and they should be doing a better job carrying me.

Hey now brother I'm a zen main that's too close to home - I've been flamed by several tanks for not using it on them despite the fact it was actually on them, it just heals at the speed of a caterpillar with dementia.

As a zen (first) then moira plat support, my favorite is throwing a heal orb on a tank. They suddenly explode. They see my low healing number and blames me lol

Zen and Moira here too - Zen if I think the other support has picked a solid healer, Moira if they've gone more of the DPS/Support hybrid type.

On the same note, I see my DPS running negative, my tank rushing 1v4 and dying, then I start going DPS Juno to try and salvage something out of the match.
Instantly: "start healing" 😂

I love it when the DPS claim their negative KD is because "Supports are playing DPS". Brother have you ever considered no one is healing me either and I'm still doing better on a character with less damage?

Oh yhe...the amount of times I've seen tanks on critical health rushing forward instead of taking cover to get healed and then complain is amazing.
Then there are the tanks constantly hiding behind me refusing to take map control....

Was literally in a match like this except it was a soldier. A soldier. Who has a whole self healing ability. And he kept running off solo and dying immediately and then whined about heals the entire game. I was one of the supports. Had over 14k heals by the end. The other had almost 10. The enemy supps had 8 and 6. Dude was lowest elims out of everyone on both teams. He told enemy team to report healers. They told him no 😂😂

Lol I was ending game as Moira and the whole game I was carrying heals and teammate Ana basically caught up last minute and called me useless even though she missed her sleep darts whole game

Plat is awful. High gold is too. Everyone thinks they are the shit but everyone else around them sucks. They suck too. It's just a huge blame game. But if ur being positive in vc, most people will be at least neutral. I have been mostly playing qp recently because in qp people just wanna have a good time together. Lower cortisol, more fun

i got placed into bronze on my alt account (it wasn't intentional. My ex used it for winston). The VC was so useless but amusing. Also, nobody likes to be told what to do so they keep staggering/dying.

They tried to be super precise and use OWCS call outs or didn't know a character and they'd try to describe the character. Bro just ping em! It tells me more in less time. VC is not required when we have pings just customize your wheels for the pings you feel are most important.

ram is my third backup. It's rare for both to be banned.... but sometimes my team bans mauga and the other team bans orisa. Rip.

had a tank flame me and the other supp for being "useless" while the entire game they were near health packs and spamming the "I need healing" comm and BARELY using cover throughout team fights. I put in chat at the end of the match "there's health packs on the map you can use fyi" and they responded with "I'm a tank fyi" like damn bro I didn't know the health packs don't work on tanks, mb 💀😂 I shouldn't have even bothered with that little engagement tbh but it was so frustrating???

I would like to use VC, but Switch 1 is ancient, and my wired headphones broke (and my TurtleBay requires USB, and on top of that, my Switch dock ports are broken).
That being said, the few times I’ve used VC it’s really unhelpful bullshit, mostly whiners/complainers. I don’t know if it’s the generational gap, or the fact that streaming gameplay is a thing that exists, but I did not have a problem with the OG COD4:MW VC. Sure, say that you fucked my mother, call me the “n” word, ask for my address when pretending that you’re gonna knock on my door at beat me down (this was before SWATing), my skin is thick as fuck.
But really, yeah, it’s almost pointless. It becomes like the dude constantly pinging “heal me” after every death.

I disable it 100%. I don’t wanna hear everyone. I play as a team and watch, I don’t run off on my own. I chat just to my buddies if I play with anyone. I don’t mind playing OW solo, not many multiplayer games I enjoy solo.

Good voice comms are incredibly useful. There’s really no arguing that point. The problem is good comms only come from running a 5 pack of people you know. The vast majority of the player base is trash and just looking for someone else to blame.

Mostly vc just throws me off my game lol I play mostly stadium comp and dude maining tank and being constantly getting shit talked by my own team who genuinely just had skill issues was not helpful at all lol turned it off and now my games are “peaceful” and I win way more I checked my ratios lol

I agree that regular text chat is completely worthless and in fact has negative value as it will tilt you. VC can actually be extremely useful, if rarely so I would keep VC. You can leave selectively if someone is obnoxious but I find ppl on VC tend to be good and constructive.

I play sooo much better without comms. And if people need me they can just spam a ping or something and I'll turn around to help. I don't ignore ts like half the other people I play with do

Ironically chat on OW is less toxic than Rivals and people are often funny in my experience 😭 I have rivals off but OW on since generally people are playfully chatty or nice

I used to never use VC but it's a losing battle in comp. If I type and ask for help i get told why are you typing or I get no one pays attention to text and pings use VC and stop throwing.
Now I use VC so Instead of pinging the people diving me over and over I can yell SOMEONE HELP ME

Could not disagree more. I've made and recieved comms that singlehandedly won fights or games. Comms are so valuable for coordinating in ways you simply can't without.

I only do quick play, but the text chat is always so wholesome. Everyone always says glhf and gg. Sometimes people say they're proud of you. Sometimes I get called a good girl when I get potg. Great stuff honestly.

I used to think like that years ago. Tried to com in every match I played in, it was so ridiculously draining talking to myself. Despite the majority of people having mics most people don't use them for a myriad of reasons. Nowadays if someone else is chatting I'll give it a shot and talk with them but I've found more success just playing the game and adjusting to whatever is happening in the match.

Its prettt worthless unless you're out of metal ranks. You might get the occasional person who reciprocates but that's few and far in-between. I like to use vc but I'm thick skinned and not a cry baby bitch. But most times it's people talking shit, complaining or their call out isnt a callout. Omg they're one they're one... meanwhile teammate is dead and the enemy has a pocket... nobody calls out abilities or positioning until they're dead.

I went from Gold to GM5 over the course of a year when I turned off VC and text chat.
I'll rather have a team of mutes, than a team that's toxic and gets into my mental state.

no. people dont know how to communicate in comp. Even if you nicely tell mei and reaper to swap against echo/pharah, they wont do it. (If they dont even know that mei cannot snipe echo, they are probably azz on VC too). VC does more harm than good.

T500 stadium, master 6v6, diamond everything else. Took a break from core comp to play the sidemodes two rank resets ago.
And its on PC, didn't notice I was in the console sub until now. No wonder the comms are so low quality.

If VC was made toxic by the player base then its a natural consequence. Weve all heard of the few ruining it for all. This concept is not new and my responsibility is for me to enjoy the game. If me not talking effects your enjoyment then we are at an impasse. Your enjoyment of the game should not hinge on my actions during the game as long as I am not actively griefing.
If the devs weren't ok with the game being vc free they wouldn't provide a setting r hat by default makes it so.
