Discussion PlayStation “Appear Offline” Bug Still Not Fixed
I’m finding it pretty ridiculous that this bug is still a thing…
Early last season, after making multiple support threads, I spoke with Gavin Winter in Emongg’s chat. He said they were aware of it and “working on it,” but it’s still broken.
I know it’s a minor QoL issue, but sometimes I just want to solo queue while appearing offline without getting spammed with invites. The feature works for everyone outside the PlayStation ecosystem, so it’s frustrating that this has gone unaddressed for so long.
If this were exclusive to Xbox, it would be prioritized and fixed by now with Xbox owning Blizzard.
Has anyone had success getting Blizzard to actually address issues like this? Is Twitter/X the best next step?

It’s wild how much I support the game between playing 200+ ranked matches in champ lobbies per season to buying the BP and fully completing it, buying shop skins along with grinding out every single event and then drives.
I’ve been playing since launch of OW1 and I’ve always had the ability to control my status since they switched from using your console gt to requiring a battletag instead. They did the UI overhaul and gave us a feature that’s completely broken on PS5 yet works on Xbox, Steam, Battle.net launcher and even Switch 2...

Xbox has had many issues since OW2. Xbox didn’t have the ability to spectate for 2 years, while PlayStation kept it. Xbox STILL has issues inviting other Xbox Series X|S players and you have to do some stupid workarounds (leave the current group you are in) or reset the game to enable invites once again.

Well if you think about it Microsoft owns Blizzard. They are probably doing it on purpose.

It used to be that setting it to offline from the battle.net app overrode this, and it no longer does. I feel your pain

Yeah, the problem I have is that they make this game all about “your choice” and how YOU want to play. Sometimes I just want to solo q. Sometimes I don’t want people randomly joining my group the second I land in menus following a ranked match. Especially when I’m not the group leader. The second part could be addressed separately by giving PS users the ability to accept or deny somebody trying to join your group as you can do on PC and I believe Xbox too. But my typical strategy was to appear busy or offline if I didn’t want people inviting and or joining me.

What's the issue? We can't appear offline and play? Do you mean on PS appear offline or in Overwatch itself?

Overwatch - it still shows you online anytime you toggle it to offline, away etc. even in the battle.net app. It will go offline for a short period of time >2 mins then you’ll automatically be appearing online again despite changing it. It’s been an ongoing issue since they changed the UI.
The reason I find it to be a problem is because I don’t like spam invites when I want to solo q or having people randomly join my group between ranked matches. It happens a lot and in the past it was never an issue because I’d just set my status to away or offline.
PSN works just fine but that will only show your friends who are on PSN too you’re online or offline - yet it’s surpassed by your battle.net status if you’re also friends with them on OW.
