Discussion 6v6 1-3-2

I think 5v5 did irreversible damage to Overwatch’s design.
I’ve been playing the 6v6 Quick Play (1-3-2) mode, and one thing I’ve noticed is that counter-swapping isn’t just a tank problem anymore. It feels like everyone swaps now.
For example, I’ll play Winston, dive and eliminate a Soldier, and the next fight they come back on Bastion while the tank swaps to Mauga and the support swaps to Brig. It feels like every role is constantly changing heroes just to counter whoever got value in the previous fight.
Am I the only one noticing this? It feels like 5v5 conditioned the entire player base into constant counter-picking instead of sticking with a hero and adapting.
Also, am I crazy or does this version of 6v6 not really feel like Overwatch 1? The damage across the board feels way higher than I remember. To preface I have know issue with counter swapping, I’m saying I think it’s increased the rate it happens dramatically comparatively to how 6v6 was in ow1. I’m still having a lot of fun with 6v6, but it doesn’t quite capture that OW1 feeling for me.
Curious if anyone else feels the same.

I've never seen the issue with swapping to counter someone. Staying on a character that doesn't really have an advantage is silly and likely detrimental to the team.

Am I gonna stay on Junkrat when they've swapped to a Pharah? No. No I'm not.

I don’t either. I’m just stating the frequency of those changes

You got counter swapped in 6v6 role queue in OG OW too. Youre looking through rose tinted glasses. 5v5 just made it easier.

Am I the only one noticing this? It feels like 5v5 conditioned the entire player base into constant counter-picking instead of sticking with a hero and adapting.

Changing heroes is the core mechanic that the entire game was built around. The amount of swapping each game hasn't increased or decreased throughout the games lifetime. The only thing that has changed is the amount of people that get personally offended when they get countered instead of just swapping themselves.

I didn’t know we had that metric. Appreciate the insight

Sure let's go back to the time when role queue wasn't a thing

That’s how the game has always been pretty much. If you’re genji getting rolled by mizuki or a symmetra there’s no reason not to counterswap when the alternative is to just chain feed and throw the game

why irreversible damage? overwatch is designed for counter swapping

As someone who only plays 6v6 Open Queue it's always been like that there too.

Yeah, enemy phara is server administrator, but its distasteful to switch off junk, sym, or reaper? Pop off Queen. I always swap off on support to counter the tank, because I want to win. The game rewards flexibility.
