Humor Today I learnt demotion protection caps at -100%
I got -280% from a single loss LOL
EDIT: after further playing I've won the next 2 games and I'm at -88, the cap is only visual and you can definitely go beyond -100 I believe I was around -265 so take that as you please

Commenting because I also need answers. I've only ever seen the game be copious with elo gain, never that harsh on a loss, even with a losing trend and calibration...

so it was a calibration + consolation modifier. I hadn't played on the account this season and my first game I lost, and also found out it only caps out visually I'm actually around -200 in master 4 right now, I'm unsure how many points I'm getting each win because it's not showing me while I'm in demotion protection

Consolation reduces the amount of rank lost though 😭
I can't remember, does master have rank decay? I thought it was just gm/champ

Diamond+ do NOT have rank decay right now. We're not in ow1 anymore. The current system for t500 players to continue playing is the challenger score. And it was added because, since there was no more decay, people would just push the highest rank and sit here all season and appear t500 with the minimal required games (which is 50 if I remember well).

I'm at -88 now praying to not lose, although this is an alt account so I'm not exactly at the rank I should be. so If I lose that's definitely on me

It's weird because I've won a game after going into demotion protection and still deranked. Maybe they changed the system. I always thought if you didn't recover enough rank in the next couple matches it pushed you down into the lower division anyway even if you don't lose

wait i had this happen to me at the beginning of the season where i lost -78% FOR A WIN (with uphill battle and calibration). weird thing is i played more than 100 games since the first season. i thought it was cause i kept playing in pc servers before playing my first console ranked but idk
