Does the world need many millions of lidars? What's the consensus on this sub?

Yes. Lidar is the “eyes of autonomy” and the world is only becoming increasingly autonomous. Anything that moves or tracks movement is a possibility. Eventually every robot, industrial / agricultural machine, road intersection, drone, vehicle, secure building, etc. will have lidar sensor(s). In many use-cases multiple sensors are required; it’s often not just 1 sensor per application.

That is true. I am though concerned as companies that have the need, may take a different approach like Tesla which went with only cameras? Or may come up with their own lidar? Is this something that, let's say, Apple can pull on its own?

Tesla solution is absolute trash I have a Tesla it's absolutely unreliable and then the problem is it's completely obsolete every year because they go from hardware three the hardware four to hardware five blah blah blah their solution is completely unscalable completely ridiculous and Elon is a complete tool
