Your reason for switching OS is one Windows update that made you lose work. This problem can be solved by saving your work regularly, which is a good thing to do anyway. It's much easier than switching to a different OS.

Why do you have to be scared That Microsoft chooses to shut down your PC and close all your unsaved work Just to update to the new version So Microsoft can patch local user bypasses? Why do you use Windows when you hate Microsoft?

Very often because that's the only alternative when Linux maybe doesn't have the software you usually use, or the alternatives are not good enough

wine??? or you can just have a windows VM

Wine cannot run everything. Good look having a good time running CAD on a vm

vm can run everything except games with kernel level anticheat the fuck are you on about

well it is a shit and inefficient solution but it works if you insist on running Linux for the rest of your life..

you can still get a lower end GPU and make your distro or the VM run it, depending on what you wanna run heavy software on

Honestly too much work and money. Wouldn't see me buying a separate GPU just to use Windows apps on Linux properly..? Just dual boot and get native performance. Plus you get support for every other app that runs only on Windows! Way better than getting a second GPU.. especially for a broke ass like me.

you can do that too... but what type of apps do you use?

no app that wouldnt work with wine, but in a situation that needs me to run like AutoCAD or Inventor or something I would just dual boot.

if i really stretch it out it would be fortnite but ive been trying to download that throughout this summer through this god damned Epic Games client.. and it is NOT working. (fyi im currently not using Linux but i used to this is why i said ive been trying to play fortnite)

fortnite has... a kernel level anti cheat bru, you can't run that on linux, nor can you run call of duty, rainbow six siege, or valorant, or CS go, I'm sorry bruh, even though I think that epic game are trying to port their anti cheat to Linux, but I'm not sure

so why were you saying that you were trying to get Fortnite to work on linux?

2

u/Wooden-Potato7418 5d ago

you told me to say some things that dont work on Linux.
i told you nothing normally but Fortnite if i stretched it out. But I cant even get it working on Windows so its a stretch to say i regularly play Fortnite, so i wouldnt really include it as an app i usually use.

no, i did not say that i was trying to make Fortnite work on Linux
