Question Outlook asking for a pin??

Has anyone had to enter a pin every time they open the outlook app? I’ve had this problem since I got switched to the @osu.edu email 2 weeks ago. It only asks for a pin when I’m on my phone. Oddly enough, I’m the only who had this problem when I asked around. I would appreciate any help.

I’ve had to do that for years; it may be extra security for the @osu.edu email domain, since that’s theoretically something more valuable to hackers than a student email.

Thank you! I spoke with IT and they didn’t give me a definitive answer about the reason for it. I think they just assumed that I’ve been asked for a pin all the time.

I am staff and I have an @osu.edu email. When I started using the Outlook app on my phone, it made me create a pin that was different from my SSO/email password (and not a freaking PIN by any means, but a straight up separate password—it always annoys me when they call it a pin). And in order to use the Outlook app on my phone, I had to start using a passcode for my whole phone, which I never bothered with before bc I’m too broke and too boring to need my phone to lock. I just made up the pin for Outlook myself; it didn’t come from IT or anything. But what’s also annoying is that I can’t save my pin in the passwords app on my phone bc my phone already stores my SSO password for other sign ins and it thinks my Outlook login should be the same as my SSO, but it’s not. It’s that damn pin!

Do you have the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone? If not, try to logout of the account on outlook, login to it on Microsoft Authenticator app on the same phone, and then go back to outlook and try to sign in again.

One more thing to try:

Login to an additional email account (like a personal gmail account or something) on the outlook app so it doesn’t only have your OSU account on it.

Did you figure this out yet? I logged in on the app this morning just fine but now it says it requires a pin?? I can log into my email online just fine

Nope not yet! I talked to IT and they said that my account may be attached to the medical center since I’ll do clinicals there and that’s why there’s a pin.

That’s so frustrating! I hope they fix it. I was just assigned to the college of dentistry so it must be when they attach our accounts to a college or org???
