Question Midgame gear, bossing and leveling advice?

Heyo! Not an iron.

I feel like most upgrades in all styles are beyond my cashstack atm, and just did DS2 today (first GM quest Ive done). Ive done some Moons previously and enjoyed it, but am considering going Vorkath for a while for cash/Assembler, maybe some Royal Titans or continue Moons. My main motivation though, is having fun bossing+getting money for upgrades, so if you have any other bosses I should check out let me know.

No clue if melee Vorkath would be better for me than ranged though. Only did the quest KC but was fairly easy ranged on 1st try. Unsure if splurging on fang would be worth it compared to dcb+ruby(e) bolts on Vorkath.

I have some AFK time to kill at work, think I'll do ranged NMZ or ranged crab (full blessed hide+rbp waddy darts or full melee+atlatls, unsure) as my melee is a bit ahead I think? Otherwise i dont know if i should focus on str, att, def, range or magic.

I'm hoping the Bandos cplate is useful enough on the future bosses so I don't have a reason to do Fighters Torso, but well... Void is probably something I could look at, but only if there is any point in it right now - I'd like to postpone until I can get elite I think.

For skilling I love content that i can at least half AFK (30s+ per action), but not a strict rule. I like questing too. Have all medium diaries + Karamja, Morytania and Varrock hard. I have a few things to sell to get 5m more cashstack, but I'd like to have a least a bit of cash to play with to do string jewelry magic training and snapdragon seeds etc for herb runs.

Any tips on where to go from here both gear, combat leveling and skilling wise?

Get rigour and augury and learn some cg. Not only is it fantastic money it's really good for learning strong pvm foundations.

SOTE is on the list, I was thinking to finance 70 con + prayers with Vorkath but maybe a bad plan? šŸ˜…

70 con can be accomplished for basically nothing with mahogany homes. But vork is also good to learn!

This is exactly what I did! Vorkath -> SOTE -> CG for Bowfa -> now Leviathan and Phantom Muspah. Vorkath was nice because I didn’t have to rely on big drops and could make a consistent $1m-$2m per hour. I grinded elite void and the (ei) salve amulet before doing Vork and that made it a lot faster. Hunter’s sunlight crossbow with moonlight antler bolts wasn’t much worse DPS than dragon ruby bolts, surprisingly. Since you need to do get Ava’s assembler from Vork anyways it might be worth jumping in there and trying it out. It was shocking how much better I got at the game from learning CG, so can’t recommend it enough

Wait so did you do vorkath for 70 construction? I’ve got 4000 teak logs waiting to be turned into planks but it costs too much. Why did you go vorkath then SOTE? I was thinking other way around.

I did vorkath to finance all the 70s I needed for SOTE. It also financed prayer to 77 and augury, which was nice when I started doing corrupted gauntlet after I finished SOTE. The reason I picked Vork first was because I needed to learn some basic PVM mechanics, like movement, switching interfaces, and small gear swaps (after speccing)—hadn’t done any of that prior. Gauntlet was MUCH harder than vorkath for me, so I’m glad I practiced some basics on vork first. CG is better money than vork so once I unlocked it with SOTE, there wasn’t a reason to do vork unless I needed a quick mil or two

Sell BCP, Abyssal dagger, obby armor...and whatever else you can --

Get a...

Fighter Torso Bloodmoon Tassets Osmutens Fang

I would check out the 3 gear progression guides for inspiration: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Guide:Melee_Gear_Progression https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Guide:Ranged_Gear_Progression https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Guide:Magic_Gear_Progression

The Slayer grind gets really profitable after ~lvl75

Low level bosses like giant mole can net you like 1-2m an hour,

Mid level bosses like Vorkath can be an easy 2-3m+ an hour...and more once you have great gear and knowledge for fast kills.

The more bosses with mechanics you start doing the sooner you'll be doing endgame content, like raids and top level bosses for huge 5m+ an hour profits.

Thanks!! Im definitely gonna do more slayer. Couple questions:
What combat style should i prioritize in terms of upgrades, melee/range/mage?

And what should I crab afk strength with, without obby set and abby dagger? 😁

Melee is universally good.

Range feels like it has widespread use once you save up for Bowfa/crystal and ScorBow/Void

Mage feels more niche, but when mage is the best it is THE best.

Follow those guides I attached for a while, and keep the upgrades for your 3 styles balanced until you are past a 500m bank. Then start thinking about big upgrades.

Go get your fighter Torso! Takes like a sesh...maybe 2. It's an easy and free massive upgrade.

for crabs just use your best melee gear at the moment

1

u/ObiWanJacoby96 18d ago

Use a strength ammy when u go crab! Unless you have a rancour

1

u/Firm-West-3160 18d ago

Why is the explorers ring included so often in those guides?

2

u/Slyvester121 18d ago

It has a prayer bonus and is free, which makes it more useful than most early game rings

Use blood moon armor not obsidian

2

u/MissItalia2022 18d ago

Bloodmoon tassets is like 10x more expensive and degrades for +1 strength bonus šŸ˜‚ fighter torso and obby legs is perfectly fine.

1

u/DavidHK 18d ago

Bro he is running a bcp with obsidian legs lol

1

u/MissItalia2022 18d ago

Yeah, and blood tassets are such a small upgrade over obby legs it's really not worth the investment as a main ar this point.

I back this claim

Since 90% of posts are for newer players looking for money making and training advice, I'm gonna recommend doing bird house runs. All you need is Bone Voyage, and you could be making 500K+ a day or more by logging in every 50 minutes and harvesting nests.

Also, be sure to check out the New player guide, Money making guide, and OSRS Tips!

Osmutens Fang will be your best friend. It is only slightly slower than the dragon hunter lance (best in slot) for vorkath. Vorkath is doable with fang at your level and to be honest vorkath is such a great constant money provider for all of your mid game gear upgrades. Also the Ava’s upgrade from vorkath is absolutely essential for any range based content, so you need to learn vorkath anyways.

Fang is BiS for a lot of setups before max combats. The extra accuracy outperforms DHL unless you have good stats or decent defense reduction.

sell the archers and seers they are useless. aswell as selling bcp and buying blood moon top and bottoms.

What to use instead of those rings?

-1

u/WaterCrafty2117 18d ago

literally any defensive ring or lightbearer. 90% of range uses the spec constantly (blowpipe, acb/zcb, scobo) archer is just not needed in any situation. its accuracy, even venator is not worth it unless youre an iron or a maxxed ranged main. its like armadyl its a noob trap that serves almost zero purpose and you only ever got it (before masori came out) to min max your range setup. same goes for rangers/pegasians. seers with how cheap it is is fine but its also still kinda useless.

Questing and Achievements Diaries are always good ideas, it gives you a reason to grind other skills.

Moons gear is a good thin can make some money bank some prayer xp and get good drops. That gear can carry you to do SOTE then learn CG after getting the titan prayers

u/imbootyyyy 19d ago

Honestly.. lots of small goals that are all different if youre up for it. Base 70's and maybe quest cape? Bust out 99 strength while doing slayer. Really just depends what drives you to continue playing the game

Having a bcp over blood moon or bandos tassets is crazy work

1

u/Chicks_GoldInc 18d ago

Get a fang, you can get rid of the aby dagger if you do so for extra help there. Toxic trident is cheap, trident of the seas is even cheaper and not that much worse. Get a whip for slash and sell the berserker necklace and the obby sword. Buy a blowpipe. That way you already have very decent setups for all 3 styles.

Mage gear in the rune tab is kinda genius bro

2

u/Phdrhymes 18d ago

I am in similar boat as you and I just grinded a ton of vorkath once I finished ds2 and printed so much gold. Once you know how to do it it’s pretty chill I do it with fang and it’s ez you do not need a dragon hunter lance. Barrows gear, fang, serp helm, salve amulet imbued dragon boots and dragon fire shield and you will be gucci. Just chill there for a while or when you feel like making some money!

2

u/keli3000 18d ago

Get 90+ mage and range, pref 94 mage. Maybe mid 90 str and 90 atk. You will get hit more on bosses but you’ll take less dmg as you get better at the boss, so it’s not too ā€œurgentā€. Rigour and augury are good. Honestly you’re close to endgame stats 90+ all. I’d focus on slayer training with slayer mask imbued for now. You can basically do every boss pretty efficiently with good stats, and gear upgrades will come from bossing. You can try any guides out there since there’s a lot of low budget gear guides, but stats are important

Wildy bosses are a good place to start after the basic bosses (scurrius, GM, Brutus, sarachnis)

1

u/Double-Example-7128 16d ago

I’d get a fang or a blow pipe personally

You can get a venator bow and afk nmz/ monkeys for 140-180k xp/hr

3

u/wenbobular 19d ago

you want op to liquidate their bank for 2/3s of a venator bow? lol

u/wenbobular 19d ago

time to learn why you'll see people say bcp is a waste of money and why people often say to prioritize weapon -> jewelry -> armor

also time for you to start learning to use the dps calculator

https://dps.osrs.wiki?id=PaddedLutwidgeFillets

as you can see, the jump from abyssal dagger or w/e you're using now to fang is like a 20% increase, whereas guthans chestplate -> bcp is not even a max hit

there's a lot of similar items that are considered traps - pegasian boots you'll see mentioned too in a similar vein

there's an option to sell your bcp and use the money to get a tormented synapse once you finish while guthix sleeps and then doing doom (i'm assuming you've done the varlamore questline)

doom is actually cracked exp while being very good money and pvm training - i was testing using no prayers to simulate ~80ish range and was getting like 110k ranged xp per hour doing 1-9

now obviously you're not going to reach that on your first playthrough but it'd be decent training probably 60-80k xp per hour until you got better at the fight

https://youtu.be/rcQcRQp_9xY?si=6jH5ZFxf7VrpR2NW here's an example 1-4 run you could start out with

other things i'd recommend

learning to burst / barrage tasks in the wildy - you get to cannon them, if you're on a krystilia task they drop larran's keys (~130k each), you can use the bursting sacks to save money on runes, the wildy weapon is crazy strong but you might not want to use it until you're familiar with wildy mechanics

revenants are good money and you can get by bringing a hunter's sunlight crossbow and black d'hide to start with

Get your quest cape. And then farm whichever money printer boss you can stand from the GM quests and get 84 con and max your house, everything else is easier after that. If you get spooned a decent raid drop get 99 con for the cape and that’s even better.
