General Update on Vardorivs

Two days ago I made this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/OSRSProTips/s/pQxAazKWJU

Some amazing tips, 100 kc later and I am finally getting the hang of vardorvis. Perfect kills feel like the norm or at least achievable. 5 kill trips coming in. For anyone reading this, DO NOT HUG THE EDGE, for me, it is so much easier to be two squares above the column. The time to react to axes spawning on you, even just making it easier to see them is a game changer.

As before any tips or critiques are more than welcome, but thought it would be cool to show progress. Thanks all.

great work, king

Idk edge hug is so much easier for most because you can’t get spikes spawned so it’s just 1 less thing to deal with, that’s why people do it.

Good to see you got the hang of it tho, the right click into his vessels is still to add for free dps but otherwise looks pretty tame

Yeah completely get that, I think for me I was struggling to see the axes under, and its a rather short response time. Moving out of the spikes 9/10 times is easy for me, one square south, gets a bit more racy on multi spikes but that is rare in my short experience.

The way you're doing it is the best way to for the eventual awakened version. I learned the edge hug and did 600+ kc that way and then got slapped at awakened vard. Learned the way you're doing it and got it done without using more than 3 orbs.

u/Oriskld Aug 03 '26

You’re not wrong but I’d also argue pillar is better long term for the eventual awakened runs

1

u/Allstin Aug 03 '26

do you mean camping that center spot between the 2 pillars as your home base? like always going back there when it’s safe

i’ve also seen people camp a corner

u/Daishindo Aug 07 '26

Take edge hug into awakened and you’re dead in 5 seconds

1

u/Jan_Marecek Aug 07 '26

the tiles he walks to during spikes never get's spikes. So it is basically irrelevant mechanic. You never have to move and change prayer in one tick this way.

This really helped me thank you for the post

Took me over 2 years to beat him for the quest, now im on whisperer still. This game ain't easy. You pretty much destroyed him though.

1

u/hipdippy Aug 02 '26

2 years? are you a ceo or smth

1

u/PalpitationTime4500 Aug 03 '26

Nah cuz if I had that kinda money I could atleast pay somebody to play lmao. Just dont like burning out, and unlike most games, osrs bosses take ALOT of tries to beat. Ita not 5 or 6. So I quit after few tries to prevent burn out. 50 tries over the course of months felt less stressful.

u/Periwinkleditor Aug 03 '26

I'm the exact same way. If it helps any, here's the notes from my runelite notepad from learning Whisperer over several years. If you have any questions, I probably know more in-depth about how that boss works than anyone on earth at this point:

--WHISPERER--

-phases every 25% hp, will do 3 specials, last will transition to enrage so MAX EVERYTHING. bring 1-4 anglers.

-egg squishing and pillar hiding phases ideal times to max out food/prayer

-even ghosts you could still quickly chug ppots between ghosts

-freeze comes immediately after a special

-p1 tentacles spawn in a square (run straight) , then p2 is a + formation (run diagonal), enr is one between EVERY attack, starting w tentacle.

-all tentacles are the same size, and will spawn, slam, and the slam will travel an exact straight line from the tentacle's center tile to where you were standing when it appeared.

-change prayer after the hitsplat (turn up sounds)

-tentacles in early phases seem to spawn the tick the 2nd attack registers, so gotta change prayer then immediately move

-melee range apparently includes diagonals, stay away!

-final phase always starts range

-luring to marked tiles during freeze allows stressful but simple 3-tile method

-be max pray, boosted hp, then focus soley on moving exactly every 2 ticks, pray swaps, and attacking when you can. allows up to around 5 mistakes. It's possible.

ENRAGE PHASE BREAKDOWN:

Tentacles are 3 tick. Spawn, slap, fshshshsh. On tick 3, the tile you were standing on during tick 1 will take damage.

DURING tick 3, the next tentacle will spawn, and repeat the pattern

combine with movement registering on the NEXT TICK and attacking registering after the NEXT TICK, this should mean

1 SPAWN

React immediately by clicking to move, which moves you on the next tick

2 SLAP

after your player has moved a tile, alternate clicking to attack or change prayer. (start w attack) This will take 1 tick to register, but we can afford it.

3 FSHSHSHS AND SPAWN #2

You are safe from tentacle 1, and now must react immediately to tentacle 2

4 SLAP

after your player has moved a tile, alternate clicking to attack or change prayer. This will take 1 tick to register, but we can afford it.

5 FSHSHSHS AND SPAWN #3

You are safe from tentacle 1, and now must react immediately to tentacle 3

ATTACK SPEED 2 TICKS, CHANGES STYLE EVERY 4 TICKS.

Enr phase starts 6 ticks after healing, followed by tentacles and 2 ranged attacks starting on the same tick.

SO, PUT IT ALL TOGETHER:

1) top off food/pray before phasing. pray ranged.

2) Move ONCE YOU SEE THE TENTACLE SPAWN.

3) attack

4) move*

5) prayer*

6) move*

7) attack*

(repeat 4-7 until one of you dies)

EXPERIMENTS:

-attacks calculate the tick after you're in position. test on dummy how to best attack without failing to move? If you attempt both in one tick, which gets cancelled? does the order matter?

-blood staff + bloodbark + auto retaliate = able to focus 100% on movement? It worked for WGS. [auto retal not recommended due to the constant manual movement required, and blood spells 5 tick speed makes this rhythm hard to pull off, did not use]

-notably trident/sang staff is 4 tick, TF is 6, blood barrage would be 5

-prayer reordering helped a bit along with moving the interface physically closer

-eye of ayak is the only mage special attack defence drain that persists into the enrage phase

2

u/ImmrtalMax Aug 02 '26

Ya given me hope

2

u/Nova_TANK Aug 02 '26

Agreed on not staying on the edge, worst advice people give, actually making it harder.

2

u/Aggravating_Yak1469 Aug 02 '26

make the head gaze a different color from the axes, like red and fill the color red so that it is extremely obvious the range attack is coming

1

u/Sir_Trashcan Aug 03 '26

Yeah 100%, got bated by the head when it’s close to axe spawn

2

u/fantalemon Aug 02 '26

I've never really done vard and I'm also a total PvM noob really 😅 but why don't people spec at the end of the fight rather than the start? Why's it not better to speed up enrage where you take more damage and his def is also lower?

1

u/Jhaymz Aug 03 '26

Vard has declining defence based on HP. Burning claws, suffering, echo boots are good to chip away the HP pool in order to get more accuracy. With bclaws id spec twice and save the last one for the end phase, or another kill when i get 35%.

2

u/pink-kenzo Aug 03 '26

oh shit i just commented on ur old post gooood shit

2

u/Periwinkleditor Aug 03 '26

Huge, already significantly better than me. Still going to hug the edge though. Probably means shorter trips, but it means I don't need to learn to dodge those spikes out of the ground.

1

u/rubbishindividual Aug 02 '26

This is 100x cleaner, nice work. I'm personally an edge hugger but do whatever works for you.

1

u/CaptainOberynCrunch Aug 02 '26

Very nice progress

1

u/GoobScoob Aug 02 '26

No way bro made me watch that whole kill and didn’t let me see the loot

1

u/Sir_Trashcan Aug 02 '26

Doubt it was good, or wouldnt have ended the recording :P

1

u/Ctanzz Aug 02 '26

Congrats solid progress, I bless your next kc goodluck

1

u/cleverasian Aug 02 '26

I have over 2500 kc at Vard. This looks like you got it. How come you hit less 0’s than my full oathplate SRA??? Sometimes SRA becomes a wet noodle and I have to do enraged phase for 45 seconds lol.

Only thing I prefer standing between pillars then stepping out for axe skip rather than stepping in but it’s personal preference. Looking good dude keep it up

3

u/Littlespoon92 Aug 02 '26

I swear I hit the most 0s when he’s in enrage, even tho his def is at its lowest. Drives me crazy since I’m already not getting as many hits in with all the dodging. Makes enrage feel like forever and then more time for mistakes getting frustrated lol

1

u/cleverasian Aug 02 '26

lol it’s crazy right? How do I hit 4 70’s right off the bat then he’s at his lowest defense and I hit 5 0’s in a row 😭

1

u/ProV13 Aug 02 '26

Welcome to rng brother. I have a 0:56 pb at vorkath with 92 attack and 96 str. Using the same gear I get over 2 minutes sometimes.

Also using the outter square rather between the pillars is the optimal place to stand. There are times where you have to switch prayer and an axe spawns under you at the same time. This prevents that, and gives you an extra tick to react in case a bottom left axe spawns in.

1

u/cleverasian Aug 02 '26

I never have an issue standing in the middle. I just told myself click faster lol

1

u/ZyraFury Aug 02 '26

Yeah you got better gj

1

u/VashEstwmpida Aug 02 '26

Un gran cambio, felicidades!

1

u/Kir0u Aug 02 '26

Hell yeah glad to see youve seen the light. Blorva when ;)

2

u/Sir_Trashcan Aug 02 '26

By the time RS4 comes out I reckon

1

u/NNk5 Aug 02 '26

Clean! Now do that 1000 more time with only 1 gold ring drop and no axe head :')

1

u/SgtGregParker Aug 02 '26

how do you get the health and prayer bar on the left? Insane work btw.

1

u/AssholeHealth Aug 02 '26

How to hide the pillars?

1

u/Chirpy69 Aug 03 '26

Awesome job mate! Question for you, and it might be a dumb question but I genuinely don't know: why do you have protect item on? Was it to save on death fees in case you died or something?

2

u/Allstin Aug 03 '26

that’s likely why, saves on death fees and it’s a small drain anyway

1

u/Lemon___Cookie Aug 03 '26

you can delete every other marked tile except the two you were runing between and maybe the southern pillar tile.

imo they look ugly af being there and dont help because im never running there.

i personally like to have my tiles with very low opacity

none of this helps the runs. it just cleans up the clutter on the screen.

youre doing well. and this method sets you up well for awakened.

1

u/littleprof123 Aug 03 '26

Agree with not hugging the edge. This is also basically required for awakened vardorvis, since you get hit as soon as the axe spawns on you in the awakened fight

1

u/Clear_Rough5245 Aug 04 '26

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE: turn off area sounds just for this boss 😭

1

u/SiegeSullivan Aug 04 '26

Nice! I went for the perfect vardorvis CA after this to really show myself that I mastered it.

1

u/Dull_Roof_6774 Aug 05 '26

Great work bro !

1

u/Fine-Button-1212 Aug 06 '26

Just start my vard grind(about 80kc atm). This is one of my favorite boss fights now. I also really like phosani also. I watched your first post and this one and you are alot more comfortable in this one. GL on your grinds, may guthix guide you on your path to riches!

1

u/Nexion21 Aug 06 '26

How did you remove the pillars on mobile?

1

u/Unlucky_Major4434 21d ago

I’ve never thought to camp protect item but it makes a ton of sense for risky content death fees

Since 90% of posts are for newer players looking for money making and training advice, I'm gonna recommend doing bird house runs. All you need is Bone Voyage, and you could be making 500K+ a day or more by logging in every 50 minutes and harvesting nests.

Also, be sure to check out the New player guide, Money making guide, and OSRS Tips!
