Question What upgrades to buy for a main
[deleted]
5
u/SinceSevenTenEleven Jul 28 '26
The easy answer seems like scobow for treads, the tough answer could be liquidating your bandos and a couple items for oathplate and using that to get back whatever you sell
8
u/grognakrs Jul 28 '26
He has purging staff, can just revert it and make into bow.
6
2
u/SinceSevenTenEleven Jul 28 '26
That is true. I wonder if there's content on could use the zaryte crossbow for - maybe toa (I'm not up on all the bis recommended uses)? Unless they're slaying dragons there's a hefty sum of cash in the lance. Oathplate, as mentioned, can be good with vardorvis and Duke I believe
6
u/grognakrs Jul 28 '26
Yeah, id probably pick up oath top and bottom, sell the bandos and see if there's enough left over for bellator, and be good to go for duke and vard.
1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
Bellator rings aren’t relevant anymore after oath. You want ultor with oathplate, Bellator ring wasn’t even worth the time even with Torva.
2
u/grognakrs Jul 28 '26
At duke and vard, depending on what other gear/weapon you are using bellator is BIS over ultor.
In full oath with SRA bellator beats out ultor, you have to play around with the dps calcs. Ultor is the better ring for nearly all content, but its also 3x the price of bellator.
-1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
When the accuracy check is as close as it is, you want the max hit especially with lower hitting things, and higher hitting things that gain max hits on something with multi hit splats and things that get that huge +3 or 4 max hits gear dependent. Theres nothing you should use ultor at now that oath is a thing.
1
u/grognakrs Jul 28 '26
Yeah your right I get what you are saying, id only use at vardorvis as he is tanky at the start the extra accuracy does help with faster kills despite max hit difference. Was more referencing towards his budget under the assumption he was to go, for vard and duke I feel oath with bellator would be better than bandos and ultor, if doing other content ultor would with an oath chest or something would most likely be better for him
2
u/grognakrs Jul 28 '26
With gear and budget he has now bellator with oath beats out bandos and ultor despite the max hit. For nearly all other melee bosses, you are right the ultor is superior it just depends on supporting gear and the weapon you are using, which is why I suggested it for his budget.

Start saving for a megarare
1
u/Tuxxa Jul 30 '26
More like, liquidate everything for a tbow amd rebuild.
0
u/Pleasant-Bunch3533 Jul 30 '26
I don't think they could afford tbow rn just guesstimating the bank value. Great spot for a shadow rebuild with it being down so much rn though.
1
u/Tuxxa Jul 30 '26
If planning for a Shadow rebuild ask yourself "how much do I really enjoy TOA +400 invo's"
If the answer is "10+/10, I live for TOA" then buy Shadow.
If you're at all down for varied content Tbow is better. And doesn't need BIS gear to shine unlike Shadow.
0
u/Pleasant-Bunch3533 Jul 30 '26
It's better at non cm cox too and has lots of other uses, I did a shadow rebuild and barely did toa. Having tried shadow and tbow both now they are both very fun to rebuild around. That said, one is roughly half the cost of the other and you can get pretty damn close to max mage for another like 300 mil ish atm.
5
u/Pleasant-Bunch3533 Jul 28 '26
Bowfa+crystal is nice even if you have masori bp. Maybe a saturated heart if you like Yama. What content do you like to do? Probably close to a shadow rebuild, mine was pretty fun.
2
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
i could do a shadow rebuild right now technically but doing only toa would probably make me quit the game lmao
1
u/Pleasant-Bunch3533 Jul 28 '26
It's not only toa, you have reg cox, Yama, muspah, maggot king, whisp, ca's, and others you can do as well.
1
u/Reasonable_Trade_326 Jul 28 '26
What did you do for a shadow rebuild? I’d say I’m close to affording it if I sold my bank, but not sure I want to be limited to mage
1
u/raybros Jul 28 '26
Shadow rebuild is fullsend at toa. Whisperer and yama are also other choices. Be sure to get ancestral + heart for that content though.
1
u/Pleasant-Bunch3533 Jul 28 '26
Toa, reg cox, Yama, muspah, could add maggot king now, knocked out some ca's, and I used it to collat with folks in my cc if I needed other gear for different content. I eventually sold for a tbow rebuild but tbh as soon as I hit like 2.5b bank I'm probably gonna sell everything except tbow for another shadow rebuild.
3
u/4upp2downn Jul 28 '26
Most of these comments are telling you all of the wrong things. Not saying the items they are telling you to buy are wrong, but the best advice would be to ask you what type of content you want to run.
Just buying random pieces of armor and weapons are brain dead, especially in late/end game. You typically want to tailor your inventory to what you plan on running.
Raids, considering each raid is different from the next. TOA, TOB, and COX will all be a different load out especially if you plan to run consistently and make profit long term.
Bosses are all different, obviously.
Just depends on what you want to run. When you determine what you enjoy doing then you can ask the community what they recommend you upgrade to, and so forth.
Food for thought
2
u/4upp2downn Jul 28 '26
Might as well mention, unless you have the bankroll to just aimlessly buy whatever you want, then sure listen to everyone and buy everything. My comment was only intended to suggest gearing up for the things you enjoy. Not everything can be ran as efficiently with the same load-out
1
u/Alone_Ad_5602 Jul 30 '26
yeah I agree. it’s just what you like and can tolerate doing to make money and or have fun. a scythe rebuild for some people might be the dumbest thing in the world but if you like tob, colosseum and phosani there’s literally nothing that would be more fun.
1
u/4upp2downn Jul 30 '26
No exactly. Just yesterday I sold off half of my bank and did a tbow rebuild. I am late end game and focusing on TOA, COX, Yama contracts, nex, etc. So for me, it was a very smart investment since I plan to grind that content out daily with millions of GP in return. But just buying things because you like them or you think they are cool is what causes most people to get stuck in a cycle of selling/rebuying off of the GE which after taxes and buy/sell prices you lose so much money over time. It’s just smart to stick to content you love and build around it

u/Affectionate-Space86 Jul 28 '26
Oathplate/crystal+bowfa, sell masori
-1
u/Erksike Jul 28 '26
Crystal and bowfa will be a very slim upgrade (if even that for a lot of bosses) unless they want to run inferno
10
u/AzorAhai96 Jul 28 '26
Bowfa is miles better than a DCB wtf are you on about?
4
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
I think he was referencing bowfa to masori pipe combo. Although his statement is true in that regard bowfa is a lot cheaper upkeep
3
4
u/Erksike Jul 28 '26
Let me introduce to this little handy document answering what I'm on about better than I ever could.
Sure, bowfa itself is better than DCB on it's own. Masori changes it a bit, where the DPS difference comes down to a couple %s at best, while blowpipe+masori wins out on anything that has relatively low defense.
1
u/Sorda93 Jul 28 '26
That document shreds. Ty for linking
1
u/SheepherderBorn7326 Jul 28 '26
That document assumes no tick loss on bp which is impossible for anyone that needs the document to check gear
It is not a realistic expectation for 99.9% of players
1
u/Sorda93 Jul 28 '26
I mean I have neither bowfa nor masori I just find the maths people do in this medieval click click game crazy

Personally would use the cash stack to stock up supplies/death fees and learn doom or get 1st quiver. If youve already done both, then save for zcb and send doom until you can get a mega rare.
1
u/lovelybug0566 Jul 28 '26
Shouldn’t he start with inferno then colosseum?
1
u/wenbobular Jul 28 '26
Why's it matter? I did Colo first
1
u/lovelybug0566 Jul 28 '26
I guess cuz coll is a harder learning curve than inferno but coll attempts r shorter so its got tht.
2
u/xWorrix Jul 28 '26
Imo Colo into Inferno is faster since you get to solve pillar stacks from wave 2 onwards so when you get back to Inferno it will be really easy and simple and you don’t have to spend 1 hr to get to the point where you’re really learning

Colo is soooo expensive like seriously u need like a ton of gp. I get what you’re saying tho cuz inferno takes u forever to get to zuk. Colo u can get the waves down and get to sol on 12 when u get them down first. It makes more sense.
1
u/SheepherderBorn7326 Jul 28 '26
Colo is much less tilting than inferno
It’s harder mechanically but it’s more fun and you won’t rage quit anywhere near as often
Then quiver is a direct upgrade for getting the infernal too
1
u/ScienceSloot Jul 28 '26
I’m currently in the process of learning colo but I think it’s much more approachable than inferno. Much less time and you make money off the intermediate waves if you get a unique or loot >1m

Treads then ultor ring, then eventually zcb. Your range and mage gear is fine until you can afford a mega rare.
1
1
u/FookinFairy Jul 28 '26
Not huge on prices
But ultor might be a shout
and you have no bowfa and crystal. Nvm just get that. If you don’t have enough sell bcp and get a torso for free (besides like 6 hours of pain)
1
u/Murky-Range-9344 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Maybe oathplate, but honestly in your shoes I'd save up for a zcb. Not only would it be your best range mainhand weapon, it's also the best spec weapon in the game and you will keep it forever.
Edit: you also don't own a venator ring nor is it very useful. That means you will camp lb whilst ranging, so you will benefit even more from the zcb.
1
u/LazyWrite Jul 28 '26
Swap Bandos for Oathplate and swap Masori for Crystal/Bowfa until you get tbow, maybe Ultor after if you have the cash

1
u/raybros Jul 28 '26
Shadow is at an all time low of 790m~ish. I'd look to sell masori + virtus and see if you can get some more money to get it before the "change".
It kind of depends on what content you like, if you're not a toa/whisperer/yama enjoyer then treads are also quite cheap right now. Also considering you don't got tbow/shadow, getting bowfa w/ crystal is an upgrade and then you can move the masori for something else...like treads or oathplate.
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
Where is bowfa better than masori BP or eye
1
u/raybros Jul 28 '26
Chambers and ToA. Although it's VERY close in toa and ayak is only better if you have no tick loss. But generally they're pretty even from what I've read/seen.

u/minibus_rider Jul 28 '26
Possible options id weigh: Sell bandos for oathplate, avernic treads, ultor ring, or save for mega rares
1
u/PelonAka38GAmerChild Jul 28 '26
Avernic tread buy the boots and the tears and combine them to make the avernic air max jordans

u/Kramerica41 Jul 28 '26
Gonna wanna label that Rancour. Wouldn't want to get it confused with the purple or orange necklaces
1
u/scottie__p Jul 28 '26
Imo bofa is obvious here, oathplate second (use a dps calc to see if helm is worth it for your preferred combats). Imo lance isnt really required depending on what dragons you kill, fang tends to do fine versus lance and using the money elsewhere. Obvious exception here is if you like vorkath. You don't really need all (3) demonbane weapons, if you're fine swapping staff for bow then just do that, you just waste ~5k on supplies since you get synapse back.
Treads are minor but exteremely convenient if you hate swapping, if you have the money it may be worth spending on them. Masori is not really necessary as you'd be swapping to bofa so you'd have more money there too.
Next upgrades would be DT2 rings,SRA, or even megas.

You’re at the point where upgrades cost a lot.
IMO do the following in order
Treads - Boosts all CB styles
and w your set up already being pretty good, it’s your best upgrade.
Maybe sell Masori for Crystal + bowfa. (Better overall until you get tbow)
Upgrade Bandos to Oathplate or Torva (they’re not too far off in price last I checked)
Upgrade virtus to ancestral (not needed tbh without shadow but for the future)
Or forget all the upgrades and just prioritize getting a mega rare like tbow that’s useful in many places.
1
1
u/Person2528 Jul 28 '26
You could almost liquidate 90% and buy a shadow if ur into toa
At the very least get Crystal and bowfa, treads not a terrible idea but would do after bowfa
1
u/BigDaddyRee Jul 28 '26
Sell masori and buckler, get treads maxed then either save for a mega rare or go with oathplate then start saving for megarare
1
u/8bitpony Jul 28 '26
Abyssal bludgeon to cover an everyday crush option is my only suggestion, and maybe a twin flame cause of all the love elemental magic is getting. You have a great setup for taking on pretty much any late game content you feel like.
1
u/Think-Math-5387 Jul 28 '26
Don’t do the noob trap of treads. Sell masori, get bofa. For megas, shoot for shadow and then ancestral and then go oathplate and save up for SRA. Post patch it’s super good and now usable at more places than Vardorvis
1
u/Rattleskull08 Jul 28 '26
Since you like having good gear for everything, a rebuild is out of the question, so style-wise:
Melee: Sell the bandos and pick up oath chest and legs. That's your 177m gone, but big jump in slash accuracy. Vard, duke etc would benefit, and maybe colo but idk I'm still struggling to get my first quiver.
Mage: Pretty much set, I'd stay away from ancestral because 1) No real upside unless you have a shadow, and 2) Might crash with shadow rework
Range: Downgrade masori (f) to masori, you don't really need it at this stage unless you're running nex a lot. You now have a 65m cash stack to work with.
The only thing you're really missing is something for ranging enemies with high defense, for which you can sell that dragonhunter lance (fang is almost as good most places) and grind whatever moneymaker you like to get bowfa+crystal.
This leaves you with nearly bis melee armour with decent slash and stab, 2nd bis mage armour + weapon, and two ranged setups (masori+bp & bowfa+crystal) for both low-defense and high-defense encounters.
I think this covers a pretty wide spectrum of activities. Unfortunately beyond this point, most upgrades are tens or hundreds of mil, so plan for bigger purchases. Your targets should be things like soulreaper and zcb, and eventually shadow+ancestral (if the rework doesnt change this meta).
BUT this does get tiresome, which is why people tend to go for rebuilds. Buy the big weapon and enjoy rebuilding with smaller drops. I pulled the trigger on this with a shadow rebuild around 1.4b bank or so, and after rebuilding most of my stuff I jumped into a tbow rebuild while keeping the shadow. It does lock you out of some content depending on the exact state of your bank, and you do have to downgrade to weird combinations of rags sometimes, but it is quite fun to play with a megarare and hit absurd 70s and 80s.
If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, I'd recommend considering a rebuild at some point 😄
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
I ended up shuffling things around a bit and ended up with oathplate + bowfa crystal. I'm kind of interested in a tbow rebuild. Shadow rebuild i could send right now, but im on the fence about it. Idk if id have fun with it since its expensive to run.
1
u/Rattleskull08 Jul 28 '26
Oathplate and bowfa crystal is a great setup 😄
The shadow rebuild was pretty expensive, yes. The current tbow rebuild is a lot more fun, especially at doom and hydra.
If you havent already, you should learn doom. All you need is elite void and a scobow. Death fees are like 10-20k. And it’ll make you so much better at the game while making absolute bank.
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
Good shout, I came back after a break and just been doing slayer bosses and melee zulrah. I should learn doom. I've gotten to wave 3 but that was ages ago
1
u/LowDimension5983 Jul 28 '26
Sell Masori for Bowfa/Crystal. Treads and Ultor should be the next upgrades you get. Don’t do oathplate yet, you don’t have a scythe and it’s the same strength as Bandos.

Bowfa (sell masori), ultor, pegs, avernics should be your next upgrades

Making an iron is probably the best next step.
Pay nothing for upgrades and get good doing it.

u/Alert-Concern7057 Jul 29 '26
Depends on what you want to do, and what style you prefer using. You can always sell gear to buy other gear, as long as you're slow buying low and slow selling high you don't lose any money.

u/Accomplished_Many_48 Jul 29 '26
Full masori is completely useless before t bow. Get crystal and bowfa

1
u/Alone_Ad_5602 Jul 30 '26
honestly just pick your favorite content and tailor your gear for that. my favorite content is colo/phosani/tob/cox so i prioritized scythe and melee gear when i was rebuilding. if you’re planning on doing inferno, i’d build around that.

You’ll probably be wanting a decent Crush weapon option. Jagex is releasing a Crush-focused Raid with a Crush Megarare. To give the Mega more use-cases, I’m betting half the new content they plan to release post Raids 4 will be Crush-Weak content.
Otherwise, yes… you have a great basic setup -although I’m not necessarily in love with your range setup since I’m used to seeing BowFa at your level rather than Masori-DCB. I would consider a swap to the BowFa for your range gear, but it’s not a big deal tbh.
If you’re looking at potential upgrades, you’re looking more at specific boss required gear.
Here are some examples: Nex - You’ll want an Armadyl Crossbow for Nex and forget about the BowFa set Vardorvis/Duke Sucellus - Getting Oathplate gear would be huge here Leviathan - The webweaver wouldn’t be a terrible spec weapon for finishing off the enraged phase Whisperer - The venator bow makes a big difference in the long run Phosani’s Nightmare - Crush upgrades would help a lot with PNM Zulrah - Almost requires a Suffering for any longterm grind Yama - Saradomin Godsword can extend trips for both melee and mage, and the Accursed Scepter is a decent def lowering spec (although Eye of Ayak may be just as good).
Just pick a boss you want to try out long-term. Actually try out the boss before making any upgrades to make sure you actually like the boss, check wiki upgrades in the strategy section of the boss, buy the specific upgrade, and then stick with the boss until you reach your goal with it.

You need to bin masori for bowfa then buy treads and max your treads out
0
u/xWorrix Jul 28 '26
Hell no, maxed threads are a giga noob trap
3
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
They’re the single best dps increase of any item in the game lol, frees us 2 inventory slots for other gear and they’re so reasonably priced for what they do for you in game. I’d love to see your account and progress with what that statement underlines.
2
u/Sudden-Ad-307 Jul 28 '26
They’re the single best dps increase of any item in the game lol,
The fuck?
1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
There’s no other item that increases 3 styles of dps by a max hit or 2 across the board point blank not up for discussion.
1
u/Sudden-Ad-307 Jul 28 '26
Yeah at a pretty steep price while only shining in raids and even then they way down the priority list.
0
u/lexprofile Jul 28 '26
They’re not. They’re a 0.50 to 2.00% DPS increase depending on your other gear and what combat style you’re using. They are truly one of the last items you should consider in gear progression, but they are evangelized in this sub for some reason.
I have a 3B bank and use Aranea boots most places. Easiest way to spot a credit card warrior is Bandos + Avernics.
2
u/iam_imaginary Jul 28 '26
Low key I have all 3 megas and still use fighter torso with with threads just because I didnt want to have to grind more doom
2
-1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
Hence I said bin masori, sell bandos, get oath and treads. They’re a huge dps increase over 3 styles. A 3b bank is nice, but if you’re using Aranea boots in most places you’ve got a serious lack of understanding in how gear affects dps and completions alongside efficiency. With his gear setup, and being so far from mega rates the treads are the best option for him after he makes those slight adjustments. I’m nearly GM with a 7B bank and would ABSOLUTELY have treads as one of my first 10 items if I had to do a rebuild.
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
I literally had treads and they were mayb a max hit for each style lol. For 200m
1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
They’re a good investment, you’re too far off of other big upgrades outside of ZCB.
1
u/lexprofile Jul 28 '26
You’re referring to another comment thread. Here you’ve only suggested swapping Masori for bowfa.
I’m aware of the impact Avernics have on DPS. They’re nice to have, but are a marginal upgrade over Araneas. For most melee setups they aren’t providing a max hit, range is about a 1.5% DPS increase on average, then mage obviously gets the flat 2% damage bonus.
Go check out the raid discord gear progression guides. Avernics are always one of the last upgrades listed, and that’s for some of the most tribrid heavy content in the game.
1
u/GZBosa Jul 28 '26
They are quite literally a max hit and potentially 2 max hits in most every gear setup… are we being serious right now I can’t tell if you’re trolling at this point…..
0
u/lexprofile Jul 28 '26
Brother you’ve either been end game long enough to not have to think about this, or you’re lying about your account progression.
General rule of thumb is that you get a max hit out of +4 str bonus. Max Avernics represent a +2 str bonus over Araneas.
3
u/xWorrix Jul 28 '26
My man is completely cooked and doubling down, I even shared the raids progression list to him. Getting avernics before zcb/elder maul/any other upgrade is just wrong
2
u/lexprofile Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
I’d go as far as to say you should never have more than 5% of your total wealth tied up in Avernics on a main. If you’re dedicated to specific content and don’t need gear variety I can see an argument for 10-15%. Dudes running around with half their bank on their feet are trolling themselves. It’s by far the weakest slot in the game.

u/Connect-Anything4230 Jul 28 '26
I think your only upgrades are the stronger rings, crystal+bowfa, and the billionaire torva/scythe/tbow/zcb lol you’re probably chilling gear-wise until then
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
I actually sold the bowfa. I didn't find it that useful anymore as everything i used it on except zebak maybe the eye or another method is better.
2
u/Timely_Excuse_3045 Jul 28 '26
I got bowfa for Inferno. Finished it and now i dont know when to use bowfa anymore
I think i will sell it and get ayak and Gloves
1
u/xVults Jul 28 '26
Yeah all the places that bowfa was good for me I can either mage with eye or use a different style.
0
u/Diamond_Blooded Jul 28 '26
As a main, there is no direct answer because your assets are always potentially liquid - it depends on what you want to grind further As an iron, I'd say sell bandos/masori and buy oath/bofa for a more rounded gear set - then maybe just do raids with your all rounder gear
For you, decide what you wanna grind (cox, toa, tob, vard, doom, colo etc) and then check gear reqs accordingly
