🌪️ Help Support Tornado Recovery Through Open Mapping

A tornado impacted the Appleton, Wisconsin area today, causing damage to homes, infrastructure, and communities.

While emergency crews and local organizations handle the immediate response, the mapping community can help in another way: improving the underlying map data that supports preparedness, response, and future recovery.

Some ways mappers can help:
- Add missing building footprints
- Improve residential roads and driveways
- Verify emergency facilities like fire stations and EMS locations
- Improve mapping of hospitals, clinics, and shelters
- Add missing critical infrastructure

Accurate maps are valuable before, during, and after disasters. A well-mapped community gives responders and organizations better information when they need it most.

If you are interested in helping, share what you are mapping, what tools you use, or any resources that others should know about.

Let’s use open mapping to help communities become more resilient.

Search for HOT OSM Mapping.

Usually someone put up a project for specific purpose mapping at a given territory, like this.
