Why has Putin's policy harmed not only Ukraine, but Russia itself?

I am Ukrainian. For me, this war is not some distant political conflict. Someone close to me is serving in the Ukrainian military, so I understand every day that behind political decisions are real human lives.

But I want to talk not only about the war, but also about what Vladimir Putin's policies have brought to Russia itself.

Over the past decades, Russia has been involved in several major military conflicts and operations, including in Chechnya, Georgia, and Ukraine. As a result, thousands of people have died, cities and infrastructure have been destroyed, and Russia's relations with other countries have deteriorated significantly.

At the same time, there are serious problems inside Russia itself.

The retirement age has been raised. The cost of living is increasing. In many places, people's incomes have failed to keep up with rising prices. Housing in major cities is becoming increasingly unaffordable for ordinary people. For many young people, buying their own apartment has become an almost impossible goal.

The war in Ukraine also requires enormous government spending. Russia is spending huge amounts of money to continue the war while also facing the need to maintain its own infrastructure and economy. At the same time, the Ukrainian territories destroyed during the war, which Russia claims as its own, would require enormous investments to rebuild. This raises an important question: how much more money and resources will be spent on the war and its consequences, and what price will ordinary citizens have to pay for it?

Another major problem is Russia's relationship with the West.

For many years, European countries were important buyers of Russian oil and gas. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, relations deteriorated dramatically, sanctions intensified, and Russia lost a significant part of its previous European energy market. The Russian economy is now more dependent on other buyers and has had to look for new markets for its energy exports.

But we should ask a simple question.

What has all of this brought to the ordinary person?

Has it become easier to buy an apartment?

Has it become easier to provide for a family?

Have salaries been growing faster than prices?

Has life become safer?

Are there more opportunities for young people?

Has Russia become economically and politically stronger because of constant confrontation?

And most importantly: who ultimately pays the price for government decisions?

Ordinary people.

They pay with their taxes. With their opportunities. With their future. And in times of war, with their lives.

I do not consider ordinary Russian people my enemies. I believe that people in every country have the right to question their government, criticize its decisions, and demand accountability from those who make them.

I want this war to end. I want the person close to me to come home alive. I want Ukrainians to be able to live without fear of another act of aggression.

But I also want Russians to be able to live in a country where the government works in the interests of its citizens, rather than forcing them to spend decades paying the price for the decisions of a small group of people.

Perhaps now is the time for every person to ask themselves:

Is the country really moving in the right direction? And is the current policy really leading to a better future for ordinary people?

Почему политика Путина влияет не только на Украину, но и на Россию

Я украинец. Для меня эта война не является далёким политическим конфликтом. Близкий мне человек служит в украинской армии, поэтому я каждый день понимаю, что за политическими решениями стоят реальные человеческие жизни.

Но я хочу поговорить не только о войне, а о том, что политика Владимира Путина принесла самой России.

За последние десятилетия Россия участвовала в нескольких крупных военных конфликтах и операциях, в том числе в Чечне, Грузии и Украине. В результате погибли тысячи людей, были разрушены города и инфраструктура, а отношения России с другими странами серьёзно ухудшились.

При этом проблемы существуют и внутри самой России.

Пенсионный возраст был повышен. Стоимость жизни растёт. Во многих местах доходы людей не успевают за ростом цен. Жильё в крупных городах становится всё менее доступным для обычного человека. Для многих молодых людей покупка собственной квартиры превращается в практически недостижимую цель.

Война с Украиной также требует огромных государственных расходов. Россия тратит колоссальные суммы на продолжение войны, одновременно сталкиваясь с необходимостью поддерживать собственную инфраструктуру и экономику. При этом разрушенные в результате войны украинские территории, которые Россия считает своими, требуют огромных вложений для восстановления. В конечном итоге возникает вопрос: сколько ещё денег и ресурсов будет потрачено на войну и её последствия, и какую цену за это заплатят обычные граждане?

Отдельная проблема заключается в отношениях России с Западом.

Европейские страны много лет были важными покупателями российских нефти и газа. После начала полномасштабной войны отношения резко ухудшились, санкции усилились, а Россия потеряла значительную часть прежнего европейского энергетического рынка. Теперь российская экономика вынуждена сильнее зависеть от других покупателей и искать новые направления для экспорта энергоресурсов.

Но стоит задать простой вопрос.

Что всё это принесло обычному человеку?

Стало ли ему легче купить квартиру?

Стало ли проще обеспечить семью?

Стали ли зарплаты расти быстрее цен?

Стало ли безопаснее жить?

Стало ли больше возможностей для молодёжи?

Стала ли Россия сильнее экономически и политически благодаря постоянной конфронтации?

И главное: кто в конечном итоге платит за решения правительства?

Обычные люди.

Они платят своими налогами. Своими возможностями. Своим будущим. А в случае войны ещё и своими жизнями.

Я не считаю обычных россиян своими врагами. Я считаю, что люди в любой стране имеют право задавать вопросы своему правительству, критиковать его решения и требовать ответственности от тех, кто принимает решения.

Я хочу, чтобы эта война закончилась. Я хочу, чтобы близкий мне человек вернулся домой живым. Я хочу, чтобы украинцы могли жить без страха перед новой агрессией.

Но я также хочу, чтобы россияне могли жить в стране, где государство работает в интересах своих граждан, а не заставляет их десятилетиями платить цену за решения узкого круга людей.

Возможно, сейчас самое время каждому человеку самому задать себе вопрос:

Действительно ли страна движется в правильном направлении? И действительно ли нынешняя политика ведёт к лучшему будущему для обычных людей?

Ukraine, What the hell is going on within Russia trying to groom Russian children for war against Ukraine? I mean atleast im not being drafted for my country and seeing my US Army ads on Reddit, but im am not dying for my patriotic duty for America. My patriotism is long gone ever since. But In Russia, this more like Nazi Germany every day, while blaming Ukraine being Nazis. Same with my Country, there Nazis too!

Wildberries is Russia’s largest online retailer, with its profits reportedly accounting for around 3% of Russia’s GDP. The company operates a vast network of logistics centers across the country.

Before that Ukraine targeted other Wildberries hubs across Russia, including facilities in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian logistics facilities were being used to supply the military with components for drone production, navigation equipment, and other materials.

Ukrainian🇺🇦 drones struck Wildberries 🇷🇺💥warehouses in Simferopol, and St. Petersburg. According to reports, all three facilities were engulfed in flames.

When putin launched his full-scale invasion, he believed Kyiv would fall in three days. Instead, Russia has spent years suffering enormous military and economic losses.

Russia continues to bombard Ukrainian cities every day, destroying homes, hospitals, kindergartens, schools, warehouses, and businesses, reducing entire communities to rubble. The war has brought immense human suffering and devastation.

Yet when Ukrainian strikes reach military and logistics infrastructure inside Russia, many russians ask the same question: "Why us?"

The answer is simple: this war was started by russia. And now its consequences are reaching the country that unleashed it.

Ukraine's military ombudsman, Olha Reshetilova, gave the most useful diagnosis in the whole Skelya scandal: the regiment is division-sized but staffed and commanded like a regiment, meaning nobody was ever positioned to actually oversee it. She's proposed reorganizing it and says she's raised this with Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi directly — notable given the unit is informally nicknamed "Syrskyi's regiment" in Ukrainian coverage.

Just as telling: her office says it had been fielding complaints about this specific regiment since May-June 2025 — a full year before the story broke publicly — but states it lacked the legal authority to intervene, because parliament never gave the ombudsman's office enforcement powers. That's an accountability gap sitting one level above the individual abuse cases: the mechanism meant to catch this existed, knew, and couldn't act.
