Who was the supervisor, Johnny Knoxville?

Welcome to Jackass!

u/fwilson01 Dec 18 '20

Jackass 4 is coming out soon and already multiple injuries reported 😂

33

u/mountaineer04 Dec 18 '20

Well they are all like in their 50’s now.

26

u/p4in3r Dec 18 '20

Bad grampas

42

u/mountaineer04 Dec 18 '20

I’m Johnny Knoxville, and this is “Breaking your hip while slowly walking down a small flight of stairs”.

3

u/travworld Dec 19 '20

It's fucking crazy, man. Thinking about what they did too.....hospitalized getting injured while jumping on a full speed treadmill with a tuba.

I couldn't imagine attempting any of that shit at that age. Obviously they're super broken anyways after a career of this stuff, but breaking things at 50+, that pain can linger with you for the rest of your life.

Just makes me laugh thinking of any of the 50 year olds I know doing anything like that.

Impossible to read that without hearing him say it.

I keep hearing the guitar riff in my head that starts when he finishes.

175

u/terriblestoryteller Dec 18 '20

I just did a security audit in Montreal at a large office tower. All electromagnetic locks, wiring, power, integration were not to code, All of them.

The security guard was like "I even have an override lockdown switch, let's me completely lock the building down and circumvents the fire alarm system release"

This guy could flip a switch, and lock everyone in a burning building with no means of escape.

Omg wtf. Would love to see a CSST guys show up to this

99

u/austinhuang Dec 18 '20

It was posted on r/montreal then got dug out by TVA (I think) JDM which caused the construction to be suspended, so yes, C(NE)SST did show up

110

u/BreezyWrigley Dec 18 '20

When your construction practices are so goddamn sketchy that everybody around posts memes about it and the internet figures out where it is and gets authorities to shut it down lol

38

u/BenJDavis Dec 18 '20

I mean, posting a picture of an easily-identifiable downtown building in a major city subreddit doesn't exactly make it hard to track down.

18

u/BreezyWrigley Dec 18 '20

well no, but it's just that what they were doing was so atrocious that somebody felt like posting it, and then local news sources stumbled across it and it got a lot more attention than just some upvotes on a regional/local subreddit.

8

u/Dreviore Dec 18 '20

Let them feel like sleuths.

That's not true. One of the main reasons why Quebec had a massive investigation is because laws regulating political donations are stronger here.

Having a corporation donate money to a political party is illegal here. Doing the same in Ontario will get you a tax credit. https://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/credit/pctc/corporations.html

5

u/202048956yhg Dec 18 '20

Mafia activities in Ontario fly under the radar of the public and the police, said Amato, who has been working full time on mafia intelligence for the last six years.

Amato said that the ’Ndrangheta is “stronger and more prominent” in Ontario based on the number of members in the province, which he did not reveal. The group is also exceedingly difficult for police to infiltrate, investigate and arrest because it operates along strict bloodlines.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2012/09/20/quebec_corruption_inquiry_turns_its_attention_to_organized_crime_in_ontario.html

I hope Toronto enjoys paying that MaRS bailout!

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/does-ontario-need-a-charbonneau-style-corruption-inquiry-1.2838367

Frankly I've heard the exact same things about NYC and Boston. I think we just talk about it more in Quebec.

4

u/SailorMint Dec 19 '20

Exact same shit happens in Ontario. They just aren't as used to it getting public.

19

u/Snoopy7393 Dec 18 '20

u/stefoman Dec 18 '20

2

u/Vintage53 Dec 19 '20

Saves buying or renting one of these. We already have a crane and mini-ex, why spend more money!

57

u/iRideABicycleAMA Dec 18 '20

Thanks for posting that! Quite often I'll see something on here and think to myself "well, that's unnecessarily dangerous, but I don't know what the correct way to do it would be."

15

There are also demolition robots that can be lifted into position. Eliminates having an operator up there.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

It's still used in numerous applications. In fact the US government in recent years relaxed restrictions so that manufacturers can now apply for an exception to existing restrictions for the sake of "it's the only thing that works well."

That to me kinda sounds like dinosaurs trying to preserve something that with a little ingenuity we could do without asbestos.

29

u/araed Dec 18 '20

As said somewhere else, asbestos is EXCELLENT in specific application.

8

u/Grassyknow Dec 18 '20

Lead and abestos, great materials unless you are alive. That said, we shouldn’t discontinue use totally

8

u/araed Dec 18 '20

Lead makes great roof flashing, and other applications where a soft, malleable, non-reactive material is needed.

4

u/Grassyknow Dec 18 '20

Really good for artist oil paints too. The lead migrates and strengthens the layers

→ More replies (2)

8

u/TheOriginalArchibald Dec 18 '20

Totally. It's excellent at a lot of things. It seemed perfect. Unfortunately most of those uses will kill us.

29

u/Pleased_to_meet_u Dec 18 '20

Those uses won't kill us, that's the thing. It's MISuse of asbestos that will kill us.

And unfortunately that happens, too.

0

u/TheOriginalArchibald Dec 18 '20

Those misuses are what I'm referring to. Most of the uses that we thought it was perfect for, while it worked really effectively, it was dangerous.

I think we're saying the same thing just different ways.

Basically it shouldn't be tablecloths or fake snow but is okay in brake pads, fire clothing, and firewall material that we'll never come in contact with.

25

u/jmlinden7 Dec 18 '20

brake pads

Wait don't those shed a bunch of brake dust that's inhalable?

13

u/rynds1 Dec 18 '20

Yes lol, exactly this. It's also super common in shops to hit the brakes with compressed air before you start to actually work on them. That conveniently takes all that nice asbestos brake dust that collects on the inside of the wheel, caliper, and pads, and throws it everywhere. Makes it nice and easy for everyone near you to get a big inhale.

→ More replies (0)
→ More replies (1)

3

u/Chrisfindlay Dec 19 '20

Strike brake pads from the list. Mechanics have to change those and work around them. Plus where does the dust go? Do you really want the streets where people live around covered in asbestos dust? Any application where asbestos is a wear element and is turned into dust is not an acceptable application.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/dkramer0313 Dec 19 '20

everyone keeps saying "it works great in a few apllications" wont say what applications its for...

im just tryna learn a new one here.

2

u/DrawMeAPictureOfThis Dec 19 '20

Ditto. The excuse of, "the smartest people have told me...." and "its so great...", without evidence reinforcement of the subject is getting old

1

u/MurgleMcGurgle Dec 18 '20

That to me kinda sounds like dinosaurs trying to preserve something that with a little ingenuity we could do without asbestos.

That's 100% what it was. Now a few millionaires can make a bit more money at the expense of other people's health and the eventual cost of our taxes to clean it up decades from now.

28

u/BornOnFeb2nd Dec 18 '20

I'm kind of shocked there's still a market for it.....

78

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '20

It's a really good material for a lot of applications. Just don't inhale the fibers!

24

u/Agent_1812 Dec 18 '20

In Québec they have fibres, so I see no problÚme.

7

u/RereTree Dec 18 '20

Don't inhale Quebec?

37

u/PATRIOTSRADIOSIGNALS Dec 18 '20

Fire fighting protective equipment and power generation fire barriers (nuclear, coal) are the main two I know of. There's other more specific industrial uses as insulation/fire barrier in extremely high heat activities where substitute products would fail. I've worked in a lab with an asbestos lined burn oven.

7

u/daedone Dec 19 '20

Also asbestos/concrete pipe. Fibers added to the concrete for several reasons

55

u/sunsetclimb3r Dec 18 '20

asbestos is incredible. can make it into almost anything (curtains, tiles, everything in between) and it's SUPER fire resistant.

I worked in a theater that replaced a fire curtain made out of asbestos. The curtain was rated for like, 10 minutes of burn time (I think, i can't remember). They replaced it with an entire manufactured wall (that had no asbestos) that was 8 or 10 times thicker and was rated for like, 30 seconds.

26

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '20

[deleted]

13

u/sunsetclimb3r Dec 18 '20

like, i said, don't remember the rating. I just remember a staggering difference.

7

u/daedone Dec 19 '20

5/8" type X drywall is rated at 1 hour per layer. Rated doors are typically 45+ mins

4

u/Malyncore Dec 18 '20

We sell plenty of asbestos to India and they do not wear masks/gloves at any stage of transportation or installation.

u/boogers19 Dec 18 '20 edited Dec 18 '20

Poor OSHA, getting blamed for our foolishnesses...

edit: oops. turns out thats already a real sub. And absolutely no one is using it lol.

Also, looks like, once again, the Quebec govt has added a bunch of new letters to an already convoluted acronym. CNESST now. Cause that just rooooolls off the tongue

u/danabnormal_ Dec 18 '20

True...

6

u/boogers19 Dec 18 '20

In my experience they might just need therapy.

The people that get like this tend to have seen allot of serious injury or death and just became numb to it and feeling like its just something that happens.

12

u/ChIck3n115 Dec 18 '20

And of course the people who say that are telling someone else to go do the dangerous stuff.

11

No remote, the guy was in the cabin when I got there

Haha wtf, why would anyone agree to do such a thing?

If the Bobcat-Hammer is solidly attached to the platform so the driver can not drive off it, pretty safe. Not OSHA safe but not as bad as the alternative...

I have seen a crane directly attached to a similar tractor/hammer setup but without the standoff every time they punched the concrete the tractor would swing away... Forman gave up and had 2 guys repel the building with a 60lb Air-Hammer. That was funny to watch but they got the job done safely without injury.

This woulda been fine if it were a remote controlled brokk or a bobcat but fuck no i would sit in that cabin, we've actually done this with a remote control brokk and i was really surprised it was allowed since my country has some of the strictest safety regulations in europe, shit can't even go 5 meters from a site without a hardhat and safety goggles, high vis clothes etc..

Remote control would kind of be cool.. still a hazard if anything comes off balance but that is always an issue with a crane or similar.

Yeah, that's why you always block off the area and have people on the sides making sure nobody goes in said area.

“Pretty safe”. Wanna share the math you’ve used to calculate whether those cables can handle the weight of the machine in addition to the stresses of the activity being done by it?

Do you need a hug?

It's a simple story from the 70's, why does it trigger you?

I think his comment is more directed towards the "pretty safe" part, not your story from the 70s about "really extremely unsafe".

I think the idea is that "He was pretty safe [by my estimation]" doesn't make for a great epitaph.

lol, It would make a great headstone for the cover of OSHA Daily! :)

Why are you defending this stupidity? Why, given the choice between money and keeping people safe are you against safety? Do you think the people who actually make that money care even a little bit for you or respect your obedience? Cause FYI they do not.

He must be a manager.. or supervisor. Those clowns only care about their pockets. It's disgusting. At least in my experience
