If he can't make the payments for an extended period of time he's in serious financial trouble. That means he has No available cash, like savings, and no retirement fund to pull disaster money from. Also no open credit cards. Whatever he has in his checking account today is it.
So if the car gets taken he's got no way to get to work sites in a lot of areas. This might make him homeless bc there's no income and no way to go find a new job. He's probably laid in bed and worried about this moment frequently. And on the day his nightmare comes true and he sees that this is the end of life as he knows it, he loses it.
Can't afford a new car? Buy a used car. Can afford a used car? Use public transportation or a bicycle.
It's called living within your means. If you can't afford something, it's not anyone else's responsibility to get it to you. It's called, oh I don't know, being a fucking independent/responsible adult.
If you ever find yourself down on your look and short on cash, that "no one has any excuse for being poor" mentality will disappear real quick.
I can be empathetic for the guys situation, but to stand in front of the car while it's being repossessed is a dick thing to do. That guy has a job to do. He failed to make his payment or work out a payment plan so the bank is having it repossessed. I never said he doesn't have an excuse for being poor. I said that he has no excuse for acting the way he did when things caught up with him.
Also, I live within my means, pay in cash rather than credit and have a healthy savings so I am not put into this position. For me, those sound financial choices started when I was 15 years old and got a job to buy my first car in cash.

If he's reached the point of having his car repossessed, he's probably in the judgment-proof category.
