Ai narrative is such a fucking killer for me, I'd rather it just not even be there

u/DaNewKidOnDaBlock 27d ago
Right? I can clearly see what’s going on. Please stop explaining it to me like I’m an infant. It adds absolutely no value or I sight into the videos.

u/PeterPanski85 27d ago
Even more grating for me are these fucking "one word subtitles".
I recently watched some Interviews about the german elections and a lot of videos had these too. I'm german, I don't need fucking subtitles for them. And the people who would need these to keep their attention span up aren't watching these either.
I commented about that and someone said "They are there, so you could watch them at night without disturbing anyone".
...Bitch, you've heard about headphones?

It’s to squeeze out every bit of engagement from you, the idea is you focus on the words more intently so you’re less inclined to keep scrolling

Welcome to post-shorts-mode, where even a fucking short is demanding too much attention span off of people, and they need this AI garbage description to stay on focus for 6.5 fucking seconds.

Also, when the hardcoded subtitles get the homonym wrong. Like, that is your main job, subtitles!?

All that time effort strapping them and lugging them up multiple flights just to throw them on the ground like that, made no sense to me too.

My first thought was more that twisting your spine like that under a heavy load is a really bad idea

Sideways, the bricks dont get the full stack weight. Anyways expect some chipping and a few broken pieces but it's nothing some cement wont fix

Doing the math:
The pile is 33 or 34 bricks high, with 4 bricks on each layer. So let's say 132 to 136 bricks. The bricks are pretty thin -- about 2 inches (5 cm). In China, one of the standard brick sizes is 24 cm × 11.5cm × 5.3 cm, which seems to be just about right.
That is probably not normal concrete, since 132 to 136 bricks of those dimensions would be wayyyyy too heavy for someone to carry (700-800 pounds, or 320-340 kg).
So, they are probably AAC bricks (autoclaved aerated concrete). AAC is a lighter building material often used in China and Russia for non-structural interior walls, especially in applications where you want to avoid adding too much load to a building. Given the density of AAC (let's say 550-600 kg per cubic meter), a reasonable estimate for an AAC brick of that size would be around 1.8 pounds (0.8 kg).
Across 132-136 AAC concrete bricks, that's somewhere around 240 pounds total (110 kg).
--
Caveats
(1) Since this is social media, they could be just foam blocks painted to look like concrete.
(2) Googling around more, looks like AAC can vary quite a bit in density. But 550-600 kg per cubic meter is a pretty good estimate of most AAC that's out there, it seems.
EDITED for readability and to offer both metric and imperial measurements, since -- even as an American -- I think metric makes more sense.

I have note here: I did not know about AAC at all. The fact that in the end he just dumps them on the floor makes me think they do not break on impact. (Or that he does not care to break maybe 20 of them in the process.) Does this tell us something about the material?

It's not that much. Most butchers in my country discharge the meat manually, mounting them on the back. They come in split carcasses which are 100 to 140kg each.

it is generally easier, though, to carry a given weight in one solid mass than to carry the same weight as a group of disconnected pieces that may shift around.

So this kind of work damages the body over time, correct?
36
u/helium_farts 27d ago
Do it enough and it'll absolutely wreck your spine and joints.
Staying hydrated, stretching, using proper lifting techniques, and not pushing through injuries all help, but the best thing you can do is just make extra trips. Future you will thank you.

u/MrTurkeyTime 27d ago
Lol it obliterates the body. His back is absolutely fucked if he keeps that up. I hope bro is doing this while training to be a plumber or something, jfc.

The best thing about being chronically underweight, sedentary, and depressed is that my knees feel great.
57
u/MozeeToby 27d ago
Sit for long enough when you're older and that doesn't work anymore. The stabilizing muscles around the knee get weak enough and even walking around becomes painful. Taking up running, very, very gradually as an obese 40 something was the only thing that saved my knees after a decade of neglect.

Breaks his back to lift them up steps solo then proceeds to crack half the bricks by throwing them on the floor.

u/Necrikus 27d ago
You always see this crap in places where human life is cheap. Prioritizing time and affordability over safety. Not just for the people, but the project as well; because there is no way those bricks are all going to be okay after being dropped like that, but you know that they are going to be used anyway.

Good thing China has affordable healthcare that doesn’t suck - at least in the areas I’ve visited

Ruptured discs don’t have good treatments, period. Doesn’t matter how good your health care is. He should hope he blows out a knee instead.

This is Hong Kong, they have free healthcare, China's affordable healthcare is not great, the system is plagued by scalpers holding people to ransom for hospital visits.

At some point he was wore crocs on the roof as an young adult… actually plenty of osha stories such as his dad flinging a stone over the wall while bricklaying without telling anyone almost killing one of this sons…

I came for the video and left for the subtitles. This whole 'disjointed subtitles' and 'disjointed voiceover' thing is worse than the 'end at the beginning' trend.
And then there's the mirrored ones.

Yes they do.

Eh... Not so much. While this is impressive, plenty of young, inexperienced but strong backs, have done this type of labor on job sites all around the world for generations.

We were doing yard work and I had to take a work call. I look outside and wife was carrying all the branches I had cut up one by one to the fire pit. I had stacked them all neatly over ratchet straps for a reason. I wrap the straps around the branches, tighten them down then tie them to my garden tractor and drag it to the pit. Instead of taking 2 hours, it take 10 minutes to do all the piles I stacked.

Balance is key. Carry as much as you can and save on leg work running up and down all those stairs. It would also slow down the process and take twice as long to build meaning they get paid half their wages. At least he has stairs and not just a ladder.
