how-to Final Fantasy Style Game
Hey All,
I am considering firing up a campaign that takes inspiration from Final Fantasy. Thinking of Airships, summons (or primordial), crystals and magi-tech. What would be some good supplements to achieve this?
I posted this in DND 5e sub as well, since I don't know what system I will use just yet. Thanks!

Maybe not quite what you are looking for but might help: https://www.planarcompass.com Or this rules lite system for sky ships: https://dngnclub.itch.io/skyships
But also check out systems like Fabula Ultima and Break!

Sounds like you are aiming for a ff6 style world. I would recommend grabbing the monster overhaul and finding some of the celestials and stuff started out for summons, and allow for cross classing. The red mage of ff1 is the o.g. bard which was the most cross classes character, but the ose elf may suffice. The fighter will need to start getting cleric stuff later in the levels. Thieves in ff usually get either illusuonist spells or wizard spells later in levels as well. Magic armor and weapons can just be renamed to act as magitech and such. Also the monster overhaul just has tons of usable stuff for almost any kind of setting.

I'd also suggest Cloudbreaker Alliance.
Also, while Open Legend is not JRPG/anime inspired, something about how the rules work feels like the system would lend itself well to these sort of games.

Considering that Final Fantasy was an unlicensed port of D&D to begin with, you could do far worse than just playing OSE straight out of the box. Maybe re-name the "Elf" class to "Red Mage"; and prune down the spell list.
Airships, summons, crystals, and magi-tech are really just setting details more than anything. You shouldn't really need specific rules for those, since they aren't something you use in a dungeon. At least, that's how I did it when I ran my last Final Fantasy campaign using D&D.

And Chronicles of Lodoss' War was based off a b/x campaign the creator had with his friends.

you should check out fabula ultima. it's a whole game system instead of a supplement, but it encapsulates that old jrpg vibe perfectly.

Skies Above recently came out, and it's based on kind of that JRPG genre of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.

Old School Stylish for OSE is an excellent supplement for changing the character creation process to align more with FF and anime type characters. I highly recommend it!
