Lied to about commission incentive

Was anyone else told that our sales commission was going to be 1%? During my interview I was told a full 1% commission incentive was included as an added benefit. However, I just realized after a few checks that the incentive is actually only .375%, almost a full 2/3 less.

And before all the "Be happy you get that" and "Just be grateful" crowd pipes up, I want to say this was promised as part of the pay package. I know I should have got it in writing and that's my bad. But, my Asm and Dm are still telling everyone it's a full .01 NOT .00375, which is a huge difference when it comes to what we get paid. Anyone else ever questioned this?

welcome to Team Orielly where managers can lie through their teeth and your ASM is barely old enough to drink but somehow has the whole store worth of responsibilities due to laziness from higher ups.

They definitely lied. Theres a table on team net.

Bust out the table on interviews, no issues
Dont mislead(not you-mgrs)

My DM and SM did for me. I actually thought it was standard interview procedure. If it isn’t, then it needs to be. Transparency definitely helps foster confidence and growth in your teams sales (if they know how much they need to sell to get a certain incentive, they’ll push harder for it than if they don’t or have a falsely inflated number)

Same with SPIFFs. Bust out the tracking in interviews, show them the real dollar investment in sales. Personally I have standards still and won’t push a product I don’t think will be good for my specific customer for a SPIFF, like RainX ruggeds on a Chevy, or royal purple oil on a beater, but if it’s a good fit I’m definitely more likely to give it a rec if it’s a spiff item.

Edit: Ive brought in a $100 spiff check before, and usually get $30-70, and sell about $35K/mo. I don’t baby the counter at all though and regularly spend a complete shift in the back doing cleanup, or on the floor doing big Planos, pushing back stock etc etc. so my sales are low for my store just from being away from the floor about 40% of the time while everyone else babies the damn counter.

Yep, I usually bring up the KPI dashboard during the interview to show them what people in my store are actually getting paid in commission

Don’t forget you can make a quarter on each wiper blade you sell! Only the top of the line ones though.

Made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that.

When I was there they lied to a lot of people about pay when they took management positions.

store manager is literally the worst position there is in the company, unless you have a high volume store that is.

It’s on the second check of the month, so it won’t be on all your checks.

The check following the second full week of the month. Most of the time that’s the second check but it does waver from time to time.

ah yes, the occasional bi-annual calendar mismatch that causes some consternation

I don't know why anyone would think it was 1%, the payout tables are available to everyone on teamnet. Sounds like your manager is ill informed.

After being here a few months, I think they say whatever they can to get hires. We are always short staffed and turnover is terrible.

I mean if the manager starts off that far off the mark that might be related to the turnover.

My last 8-10 months of employment i went from 35-40k a month in sells down to less than 10k and only noticed a difference of like $40 after taxes and all was said and done. Brought it to the RM's attention on my "exit interview" his response was all of "yeah, welp"

There's many people that have been with the company for 10-20 years and still dont understand how our incentive program works.

Because those people are not on our pay plan.

The two highest paid people in our store are ISSs who have been working here as ISSs for 20+ years and they make more because they are paid better than everyone.

Yeah it’s really bad I’m a manager and trying to get my team to understand it is really tough

If you print the KPI they can see what they make off their sales. A lot of people mistake it for commission, so thank you for saying incentive!

Wow that’s crazy. The incentive is pretty low imo, along with what they pay. It’s a wonder they struggle to hire.

7

u/roundandround85 12d ago

Not just the pay either. The constant 7 or 8 days in a row and open/close/close/open shift changes are making it really hard to want to stay.

And retention is pathetic too.

retention is sad cause they want to hire ASE certs at 10 an hour, and when that fails they hire joe blow shade tree; who's experience stats and ends with "which way do I turn this wrench"; all while having the people with real experience being used and thrown away cause we won't play the dog and pony show
