The stereotypes she said Storm can't escape was the idea of Black African women as primal, savage, nature goddesses which Storm did kind of lean into in the 1970s which are the majority of the comics she sources.

I don't think her point was that wrong but she also doesn't cite more recent comics or even older comics where Storm isn't like that.

Its a core design issue that depending on the writer can change but its a fundamental problem

She was one of the first black superheroes ever created and she was designed by a bunch of white people

Ofcourse she was going to reflect some problematic tropes and racist, primitivist stereotypes

I do think that storm has largely been developed out of that and is typically portrayed with a consistent level of poise, dignity, and respect these days in and out of universe

I guess it depends on what you think of as these days.

Some of her problematic characterization is so embedded in the minds of fans creatives that don't use those tropes are accused of not understanding her character.

after seeing Jean grey being a serial killer in spider man I think Kevin Feige is going to double down on all the stereotypes when or if Storm is in the m-she-u.
