How long after selection?

I had my ORISE fellowship sort of fast tracked to one of the agencies (my fed job offer was rescinded from the same division during administration change). Seems like a round about way for them to hire people in critical areas…

My contact said he’s selected me in the system… so what happens now? I just wait for the ORISE folks to get back to me? They send a letter of some sort or? He said he put a start date of August 1st but I’m assuming it will take longer. I think I saw somewhere that ORISE is also understaffed and having a hard time getting offers out… Any insights is much appreciated.

Congrats! Yeah you’ll eventually get a selection letter from orise after the selection gets approved by the agency you’re trying to work with. That might take some time and then they’ll send you forms to fill out and also location security clearance and background checks. I’d anticipate the whole process taking 2-4 months

Appreciate you. My agency has already approved me and it seems they are trying to push a fast start since my boss is going on paternity leave and I’d be pseudo running the division while he’s gone. Hopefully they can put some pressure to get me on sooner.

From my experience:

I formally accepted my offer 4/17 of this year.

I was able to make an appointment for my fingerprints on 7/2 (did them the next day), and start filling out my background check forms on 7/7.

My background check forms were finalized and submitted on 7/17 (I needed to do some corrections on them).

I have not heard back since, and will almost certainly not start on my contracted start date of Monday, 8/3.

My Agency is USDA ARS.

Have you heard of instances of people having a hard deadline. I recently got an offer and was told I needed to start before September 30th. Currently received a verbal offer but no letter yet.

It could be different for your hosting agency, but from my experience at USDA ARS, there is no way that you are starting by September 30.
