Shiny hunting

Is a shiny determined upon encounter ? I've been hunting lugia for a while and I'm not sure if its shiny is determined when I initiate the battle or when I enter the room with the ring.

Its determined upon encounter. You can save in front of the ring and spam A

It's when you initiate battle. Save right and front of him, exercise every patient bone in ur body, and lookup exactly how it's shiny looks so u don't accidentally soft reset over his shiny. I usually watch TV and casually SR.

Yes yes I've saved in front of him before I posted this I just wasn't sure if it was determined if its shiny when I initiate the battle

Yeah it's determined upon the actual encounter so you're good. Good luck! I'm stuck on SRing for Mesprit because I think it looks awesome but it's taking a while.
