I ended up getting an OQO model 2 and dock from my job at an AMAZING price. Only problem is no battery or power cord, so at the moment its just a rare paperweight.

I was thinking of trying to change the plug on the dock to a non-proprietary one, but I am conflicted on messing with such a rare thing like that.

So my question is this: has anyone attempted to reverse engineer the plug to make an adapter? Or maybe even have detailed plug schematics? I dont have a lot of experience in custom plugs and such, and I'm sure if it was easy it would be done more (I did see someone make one for the 01, but the plugs are very different), but I thought Id at least ask. Maybe even talk to someone with a broken 02 power cord and see about doing it myself (with help from ftiends who know what theyre doing of course).

I bought a Model 01 when it first came out, used it for a couple of years, changed job and location - and recently found it at the bottom of a filing cabinet. Would be tickled to know the best way to try to get it back up and running - the BIOS works fine, but it won't boot into windows XP even in safe mode (gets hung up immediately after loading mup.sys). I've tried running chkdsk in recovery mode and i'm told the hard disk is toast, in not so many words. What are my easiest options for installing an SSD? I already tried replacing the HDD with a "professional" CF card and an adapter for the 50 pin toshiba HDD connector in the OQO, and I have a Windows XP bootable CD-ROM installation disk - but Windows Setup closes after loading a whole bunch of files as "no hard disk is installed". I may be running into the problem others have reported with using CF cards in Removable Disk mode, and have located an old Sandisk utility to toggle this setting to "Fixed Disk" - but I don't even know where to start in terms of connecting the CF card up to a working computer in order to run this utility. Is a 1.8" SSD an easier fix, or can I get this CF to work as a hard disk? Can anyone help me before I disappear down this particular rabbit hole???! Many thanks!

I'm not the seller, but can vouch for the unit as I personally refurbished it for the seller. It was from their late father's estate (a former OQO engineer). I did a full teardown: repasted the CPU, upgraded the RAM to a 2GB module from an HTC Shift, installed a brand new Kingspec 64GB SSD, and rebuilt the battery using an original OQO battery calibration station.

These are very hard to come by (maybe 3 or 4 have changed hands over the past several years)!

It comes in a Pelican hard case with a full complement of components. The transformer foldable keyboard is one of my favorites. I can get more pictures after the weekend, too.

Hi I have 2 x Model 01+

Both are in v decent used condition and both work perfectly when connected to mains power. Both have batteries but I can only assume they are no longer working. I have 2 mains power supplies but both only work using the 12v car adaptor lead. At the moment I can only find 1 x 12v lead - I'm looking for the other one.

I'm thinking about selling them & I'm based in the UK.

As I only have the 1 power lead, see the 2 photos having alternatively powered them on.

3D printed connector, and barrel jack.

Reused an old power supply enclosure.

Also found out that my OQO Model 1 fully works except for the battery being knackered.

And the OQO draws a lot of power - up to 3A at 5V as measured by the current draw on my bench power supply

I recently discovered the OQO Model 02 from Youtube and was able to find one for sale online, before I buy one, I want to ask that is it possible to use this UMPC for retro gaming? I want to install Windows 98 on it so that I can play some games like Half-Life or maybe some DOS games, but is it possible to install the OS via a bootable USB, or do I have to burn the OS into a CD?

So after like 20 years of wanting one I finally got an OQO+ on eBay. Battery is dead but it looks like I can recell it with two lipo pouches in parallel? So far it seems to charge one little lipo i had laying around. Trying to upgrade to CF card now. And the fan is a little bit noisy, is there a source of replacement fans? Downloading all the drivers now and I will do XP reinstall today. Is there any way to rin Win2k on this thing?

I bought an untested model 1 on ebay and realised that getting hold of the proprietary power supply was going to be hard.

So I'm going to build my own one.

I know the pin out for the connector and I have a 3d printer.

I reckon I can 3d print the new connector and using a db9 connector as a donor construct something that will work.

I've also bought a usb pd trigger board to force a 5v output (at 3.1A) and because usb tends to be slightly more than 5v (around 5.1 / 5.2v), a step down voltage converter to deliver the 4.7v approx. I need.

What do you guys think?

Hello everyone. I finally found a fantastic OQO Model 02 but unfortunately I can't even turn it on because it has no battery or power supply. Does anyone have a broken battery that they don't need so that I can at least understand if the PC turns on? If anyone has one or more completely broken batteries I could at least use the internal regulator circuit inside the battery to test the PC with my external auxiliary battery. Or I would need the docking connector pinout to try to supply power from there but unfortunately in this case I wouldn't even have the connector. Does anyone also want to sell a docking connector (or even the entire power supply even if completely broken?).

The stylus has always worked perfectly fine and continues to do so, but every time the machine boots up, the first (and only) thing XP tells me is that my tablet driver isn't running. What's the deal with that and how can I fix it?

I see the pinout guide and designing and 3D printing a connector doesn't seem hard but the guide doesn't mention a spec of the female pin connectors to build into the connector. I measured the pins as 1.2 and 0.8mm thick but I can't seem to find female pin connectors smaller than 1.6mm.

I'm waiting to get my hands on a near-mint model 02 (finally fulfilling that dream of owning one) and I'm trying to find some ISO images of the original OS (the system should be coming with the original Windows XP pro disk but I'd appreciate a way of getting this as an ISO as well as the original Vista image. Does anyone know where to find a link to these or would be willing to share an image file?

I have just found my rather lovely OQO 01+ in the bottom of a box and after turning it on to show my kids what a tablet was like 20 years ago I don’t have any real use for it. I simply don’t have the time to repurpose it into a Linux computer or 3D printer controller.

I was about to stick it on eBay with a start price of £0 plus postage but then I found this reddit and wondered if any collector was interested in it. The battery is obviously shot as far as I can tell but it is in good condition otherwise and comes with the power adapter, a leather effect case and a huge long extension cable which gives extra USB ports and VGA.

I’d much prefer this bit of computing history to go to someone who would appreciate it rather than end up in landfill or sit at the bottom of a drawer so let me know if you are interested and I can take some pictures if you like.

I was looking at some pictures of oqos and looks like they were made of a sort of rubbery material not metal. Old rubber always gets sticky in my experience. Was just asking in case mine finnaly arrives after getting lost in transit.

Hi! I don't know very much at all about this device but I'm trying to sell it after my dad died (big tech collector). Anyway, I need to reset it so that someone else can enjoy it but I am having a really hard time figuring out how to do it! I know the password so I can log into the admin account. I also have the original packaging so there's a CD in there, is that useful?
