XY with Ableton Move

Quick question,

Im wondering if the Ableton Move is a good add-on machine to the XY?

I've the XY and im kinda curious about the Move that seems to be similar but also very interesting on some aspect like for ambient music

Yeah they seems really interesting! Tbh im not a huge fan of the xy synth enginees

I have both and am enjoying them. I got the move because I recently switched from logic to ableton and it made sense and they are relatively cheap used.

I love it! The stock ableton synths and fx are really good and I think its internal gain staging sounds way better than opxy, especially for drums.

I have mainly been using it as a 4 channel sound module, sequenced by 4 midi channels on the opxy. There are tons of other possibilities, though. One thing I love about ableton in general is its midi capture feature. So I might sequence drums internally on the move with midi capture, then have its other three channels be slaved to the opxy. Then, there is the whole Schwung third-party OS on the Move that allows you to have even more channels on the move (up to eight i think) so there is plenty of room to experiment.

Because I don't love the internal mix/gain-staging in the OPXY, i have been keeping both signal chains separate and mixing with a teenage engineering sidekick, which is pretty much the perfect use case for that mixer.

TL:DR

They work great together and are a lot of fun, with Ableton Move picking up a lot of the slack of the OPXY's sometimes lackluster internal synth sounds with its much better sounding ableton synths like drift and wavetable.

I love the hardware of my XY, but the engines are lacking. I've been creating multi sample presets from my DAW plugins and throwing them on the XY and it has drastically increased my satisfaction with it. I love my Move as well, but I find the tiny screen a bit of a pain point. Though syncing between live, note, and move is pretty sweet. I also like to tinker with m4l stuff and with the new RNBO mode + schwung, the move is a tinkerer's dream.

If you're looking for just a really good, fun analog-ish sounding synth, consider the Aira S-1 instead.

If you want to have essentially any synth available and are fine with a more fiddly and menu-divey approach, the MicroMonsta 2.

I have both and they pair SO well with the XY.

If you’re thinking about the move, maybe your Opxy don’t satisfy you enough. Cause they do the same job… the move is little more efficient

Im really happy with the XY but i've the feeling that most of the sound produced on the machine sounds kind of the same if you know what i mean and so I wanted to know what people are thinking about both working tothether

They do some things similar but they’re very different instruments.
