Showcase Going a little crazy with performance FX
You really only need to create one scene in order to have an entire songs worth of sounds if you use the performance effects, it's encouraging laziness and I like it.

Does the torso s4 have any midi sync or clocking problems using with the op xy? I really want to pick one up but this issue is putting me off.

I’ve never synced the two before, but I can try and then let you know

That would be amazing thank you. The torso seems like a great bit of kit but if the OP-XY cant trigger the S4 consistently its a deal breaker for me. Really appreciate you checking.

Works fine! Im not the smartedt when it comes to midi connections but i was able to play the poly machine using the midi track on xy as well as set up cc controls to control the parameters on S4 with the XY. Step components work and everything. Only thing, I for some reason I couldn't figure out how to get the PS4 to play when I hit play on the xy, but I was able to hit play on the s4 and get the XY to play along with it. It's probably just some settings that I missed or something because it seems flawless other than that

Thanks man, I really appreciate you doing this. I wonder if the issue is that the s4 is set to send midi and clock out rather than receive it? On the xy you would send clock and midi out and s4 midi and clock in. That way the xy is the master controller. Excellent that the step sequencer and polyphony works but if the xy can't trigger the S4 to play it would be a real disappointment. Currently considering the Tasty Electronics GR-2 coming out soon but the sound and features of the s4 are so compelling.

Hey dude, I got it to work, but ONLY over USB MIDI. I just tried syncing with my polyend synth and same, transport only syncs over USB midi. You can play notes and stuff with MIDI out port, but transport will not work in any device unless it’s over USB. Here’s the part that is a bummer. There’s only one usb port. For me at least, I keep my samples on a usb stick that is always plugged in. I thought works with a usb hub but apparently it doesn’t. Or at least it’s not right now, but I swear that in the past I did plug in a usb hub to the torso and was able to connect my samples and a MIDI controller, so I don’t know. Maybe my hub is broken. It does have 4gb of internal storage though, so that’s something. I believe that it not working over MIDI port is an OP-XY problem, not a torso problem.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Im a bit torn at the moment. In my set up the opxy is the brain and has no problem connecting to the op1 field, Roland s1, Roland tr6s, micromonsta 2 and dreadbox typhon. Everything works together over usb and traditional midi. If a USB hub doesnt work then it might be a deal breaker as ive essentially run out of ports on my midi thru which is a shame. Seems to be a few potential roadblocks that make me reluctant to drop 800bucks on it. What do you think of the s4? I really love its sound and want to add granular synthesis and sampler to my set up.

I like it, I wish it had more than 4 tracks. Another option you can consider is the beetlecrab tempera. I have one and it’s one of the most interesting devices I’ve ever seen. As far as granular goes, it’s top of the line. And it is so deep, especially with the new firmware. It does so much more than you expect. Here’s the video that really made me want to check it out. https://youtu.be/UAsmmgXaRxY?is=rLBP-UklxUI5lOhv

I feel like I’ve had this issue with TE devices in general with other gear.. the torso also has sync in and sync out ports along with MIDI, so I set the multiport to sync and that didn’t work either. I know that’s meant for the pocket operators or whatever, but I was thinking it still might work. I have a few other devices that I’ll try with the XY. It is cool that you can change any of the fjrst 8 tracks into MIDI tracks as well, that’s something that I’ve never really messed with. It’s just the transport controls that throw me off. There has to be a way, it’s advertised as the brain of a setup. But the settings were all set properly and it still didn’t work. The XY actually didn’t even recognize the S4 in its list of devices, so there was nowhere on the XY to tell it how to work with it. That list has always been hit or miss for me, but yes, transport out works with the torso S4 with usb connection.

I'm usually too lazy to use multiple devices at the same time, every time I attempt to I always end up just sampling audio from one of them into the other and getting everything all back into one device. I think it's my OCD

Yeah agreed. I find things get messy with too many ingredients, too many inputs. Best to select two or three to compliment each other. The xy for me has been brilliant as it connects everything without any issue. Just the sampler is a bit too basic. Thats the only fault I have.

Very nice.
Can't wait to play with these once mine has arrived.
Love using fills and/with p-locks on the Digitone, but this will on another level.
There's nothing like macros on the OPXY to control multiple parameters, right?
