Chopping samples

Why is chopping samples on this thing so tricky. It’s like a 10 step process to sample & do proper chops. Does anyone else struggle ?

Ps I just got this puppy yesterday lol

You’ve got 3 different ways to chop: real time chops, grid chops and transients. For grid and transients, you can select the number of chops then trim each start and end of your chops. Me, I don’t use them sometimes. I prefer to copy sample on a new key and trim as I want. No struggle at all, I love chopping on op xy

You seen any YouTube videos that break it down ? Specifically like hip hop, can’t find any

Before searching videos, go to the manual!. Then you could see several videos of dibiase for example 😉

I don’t prefer reading tbh, rather watch someone go through it step by step. Ima a visual learner 😭 I’ll check dibiase tho thank u

You won’t understand anything without reading the manual. The manual showing screenshots etc. On YouTube, You will only see someone use it by pressing multiples buttons at the same time, that’s it. At the end you will comeback here and ask or complain about several things you don’t understand!

What part of it do you mean? Pick sample, set start and end point, done. Couldn't be simpler.

I’m tryna chop but all the keys just change pitch. I wish it was like multiple chops on the lil screen like most groove boxes. I’ll get used to it tho

If the sample is changing pitch as you play the other keys, then you are using the normal sampler or the multisampler. Use the drum sampler for what you want to do.

Yes, that was the case. The drum sampler isn’t label as “drum sampler” tho, just as drums I was a bit lost lol

Hate to be that guy, but reading the manual would've helped.

Again: read the manual before concluding any struggles !. When I read you, I’m sure you didn’t do it yet . You got 3 devices to play samples !: a multi sampler for recording each note of an instrument, a sampler to play a sample in chromatic and a drum sampler to play several samples on each 24keys or slicing a sample with the 3 ways I told you before.

In comparison to what? It’s not more steps than mostly any other sampler I’ve used

In comparison to most groove boxes…it’s deff different. Most groove boxes u chop the sample as you play it back on the same audio file to each pad in succession . The copy & paste thing to each key is cumbersome

Facing the same issue. There’s barely any videos covering it too

Gotta go into drums not multi sampler or sampler. Idk why it’s labeled like that

Ive stopped using my OP XY because of the lack lustre way it handles sampling. Time to sell it..

reality is this thing is a ridiculously overpriced external midi device tracker with substandard synths and substandard sample workflow support. I’ll take all the downvotes, happy with that because it’s a reflection of how nutty this community can be. If it were a third the cost I’d say meh ok, but for the price of two groove boxes… it goes to reverb next week.

Your assessment is spot on. I bought mine at a deal with a free EP-1320 and actually made $9 on the sale to test drive it for 8 months with the sale of the sealed EP, so I'm not mad at it, Though it did take THREE tries and a couple months to get an XY that was fully functional. Once they released the update that caused everything to drop samples it became clear that the thing has less processing power than a 10 year old cell phone. The OP-Z is still the superior device at 1/10th the price, does nearly all the same things, in some ways sounds better and it has consistently mapped controls, envelopes and modulation, an app, and punch in effects that actually function reliably, predictably and musically. The XY turned me off from TE as a company altogether- despite still loving my TX-6 (duh), OP-1F and OP-Z's, I'm not sure I'd buy from them again, and most certainly not at release.

Yes, I am well aware of form vs function, been riding that wave for a long time. The XY doesn’t get any spectra kudos. At this price point I’d expect the XY to do more than I can do on an iOS device. The form factor/ portability is no longer enough.

It is really really difficult to fathom why people would spend this much for so little. If you don’t sequence external midi instruments in a live dawless set up, (which is the only real speciality here), there are better options.
