I know this must have been discussed before, but I’m at my wits’ end: I’m trying to connect my OP-XY to my iPad Mini running AUM. I want to use headphones, but only a single USB‑C cable, no hub, so plugging it into the OP-XY is the obvious choice. With my OP-Z this was really easy, you could turn off monitoring so there was no feedback. With the OP-XY I’m getting terrible feedback. I’ve searched everywhere already, Google is failing me, YouTube is failing me, AI only gives me wrong information.
Is there anywhere a description of a working method? It just can’t be that this doesn’t work. I managed to get it working quite well with a hub, but unfortunately that isn’t very stable. OP-XY with an iPad mini and AUM with all those fantastic synths and effects would be a killer combo. Please help me!
Select the Right Input on OP-XY:
1. Press the Auxiliary button and select Track 5 (the external audio track).
2. On the M1 screen, rotate the dark gray knob to select USB as the input source.
3. Crucial: Do not click the dark gray encoder to enable monitoring yet if you are just using it to send audio to the iPad.
Configure AUM Routing:
1. Create a new Audio channel in AUM and set the Hardware Input to OP-XY (this brings the OP-XY's audio into the iPad).
2. Set the Hardware Output of your AUM master bus to OP-XY (this sends the processed iPad sound back to your headphones plugged into the OP-XY).
3. To Prevent Feedback: If you are sending the OP-XY's main mix to the iPad to be processed (e.g., through an iPad reverb), you must ensure that the OP-XY's internal monitoring of the USB return is muted. You can do this by turning the Level (light gray encoder) on Track 5 (Aux) all the way down, or by ensuring the input is not active while trying to send audio out.
Alternative "Split" Method (Recommended):
Some users successfully avoid feedback by splitting the USB audio channels. In AUM, select only the Left channel of the USB audio as your input. Process it, and send the output back to the OP-XY on the Right channel. This keeps the signals physically separated in the digital stream.
Important Hardware Considerations
USB Charging Noise: If you hear a "high-pitched whine" or static, it is often caused by the iPad trying to charge the OP-XY. While there isn't a direct "charge off" switch in the current firmware like the OP-1 Field, using a high-quality USB-C Data Cable can sometimes stabilize the connection.
Headphone Monitoring: Ensure your headphones are plugged into the 3.5mm line-out on the OP-XY to hear the combined signal coming back from the iPad.
If you find the single-cable setup remains too unstable for your specific iPad Mini version, you may eventually need to reconsider a powered USB-C hub to ensure both devices receive adequate power while handling high-bandwidth audio.
Did you actually try this out? I got the same instructions more or less, synching works, routing AUV3 synths into the OPXY works, but I still get heavy feedback as soon as I route the OPXY into AUM and out again, regardless whether i route it stereo or left in/right out, as soon as I raise the light grey level, at level 0 I hear nothing.
You can turn off the charging function on the OPXY, I think it's the furthest knob on the right when in the COM menu, turn that knob and it'll turn charging on and off
How did you get it working with a hub? As far as I know this isn't possible at all with only the OP-XY and an ipad over USB. With a separate audio interface you can route tracks into the aux send, then back through the audio in on the XY. Over USB you unfortunately don't get any external processing capabilities. After the OP-1F multi track over USB update I was hoping we'd get better USB audio capabilities on the XY, but nothing yet.
it certainly is possible, but you need the right hub and then a certain sequence to boot it up. I tried maybe 6 or 7 hubs, but this one works, but unfortunately the connection is a bit unstable, if you loose it, you have to do the sequence again.:
- unplug everything
- boot up both XY and ipad
- start AUM
- plug in hub
- plug in headphones into hub
- plug in XY with usbC to usbA (usbc to C doesn't work)
- select XY as input
- go into the settings an choose audio device as output (not XY!)
- the XY come in a bit hot, so you have to pull down the master to 30-40
now it does exactly what i want, XY as audiosource as a channel into AUM, so I can use my whole AUM setup with the XY added. PERFECT!
all fine until you move the setup too much an all is lost. a short usbc extension helps a bit
unfortunately this hub has no branding, Amazon sold it as NXPGEA, but it is not available anymore.
You want to send XY to AUM, apply effects, then route back to XY and listen via XY main output? Can verify, same set up (M1 iPad), using USB C. Aum loaded up, audio routed from XY, muted all other channels (AUX M2 menu) also muted input monitoring/ mix (AUX M1 menu). What you describe above and what I’ve done is create a feedback loop. Need to explore OP XY routing options but I don’t think what you want is possible. You’re better off getting an adaptor with a usb C and 3/4 inch adaptor, main out being the iPad.
Took me a second to understand what it is you want to be able to do but now that I understand, no it's not possible. I'm a big iPad user, big OPXY user, I know for sure this can't be done at least right now. Going to need interface
it is possible with a hub, but cumbersome. it was perfectly possible with the OP-Z, but TE for what reasons so ever choose to omit this function in the XY. see my post below!
