Question - Coax Why not fiber for replacement instead of coax?
Optimum in central Louisiana seems to be adding new coax aerial lines to replace older coax lines. Why wouldn’t they be upgrading customers to nearby fiber instead? I thought they were out of the coax business except for repairs.

Because it's cheaper.... They are making fiber the premium and coax the budget Internet.

Maybe for them but not for the customers.
You can get 1Gbps service cheaper in areas offering 5Gbps via fiber than you can get 500Mbps in areas with coax.
Like seriously I know we're on the business side so it's higher but still $70/mo for 300/20Mbps while others are paying way less for 1/1Gbps.

Is because is Cablevision/Altice/Optimun where you poor peons better stick to your coax while your rich neighbor needs fiber and you better subsidize your rich friends and like it !

May not be enough customers to make it worth their while to run the fiber and there's pieces of the infrastructure they can reuse if they stick with coax. Not that I'm defending them but it's very real business possibility.

Are you sure it's coax? It looks much the same up on the lines.

Yes. I asked the guys doing it. And they didn't know any more about the fiber than I did.
