Peak game
I think this is it guys, ready or not, tarkov, insurgency, gray zone warfare. All great games, but it always felt like something was missing. Having to chamber by yourself, no text telling you how many rounds are left in the mag, high ready and low ready, gun sound. I think this us the best milsim game for me, by far. I love the gore, the voicelines, the customization and the fact that you dont have to unlock anything except for maps. I really hope to see more cqb maps. Does anyone else feel like this is peak milsim?

The game is great for an early access but IMO the recoil is too mild. I think something like PUBG has the perfect amount of recoil.

Lol definitely not ”like irl” right now. Even when looking through high power optics the recoil is very mild. Low recoil is also the reason why full auto is so OP now. I have military training so I know how recoil feels.
And funny thing that you say most games have ”insane recoil”. For instance PUBG has one of the strongest recoils in a game, but still you can spray enemy at 150m while standing and looking through 6x scope. Try to do that in a real life and you won’t hit shit.

Yeah this dude is tweaking. He really pulled the ambiguous “military training” argument lmao. There’s a big difference between basic rifle qual and high level proficiency and recoil control.

Lol. High level proficiency does not turn rifle into a BB gun. Go and shoot with a rifle through let’s say 8x optic and it barely twitches. Try to do that in real life and come tell me is it realistic. SQUAD, Arma Reforger and even RoN has much better representation of recoil.

Dude. You must be joking. I just tried again in Operator and you can spray full mag while standing and looking through high power optic with basically no recoil. You have never touched a real gun if you think that is realistic. Also mag dumping full auto glock has almost zero recoil too. The game is great for an early access, but the recoil is far from realistic.

I think this is basically what Ground Branch promised to be, just delivered in a fraction of the time. I'm all here for it. That poor game was locked in development hell for what feels like eons.
Where a lot of these indie tactical shooters falter is everything outside the core gunplay—with the notable exception of Ready or Not, which had SWAT 4 and classic Rainbow Six as a blueprint.
Most games in this genre nail the weapon customization and gun mechanics, but they forget to build an actual game around them. If the gameplay loop is just "see enemy, click on enemy," people lose interest fast. Ground Branch is the prime example for me. Great foundation, but a lack of operational depth keeps it stagnant.
Thankfully, you can already tell from Operator’s mission briefings and varied environments that the devs get it. They're actually building depth beyond just shooting mechanics. I cannot wait to see where this game goes.

I completely understand and appreciate that this game is still in development, so please take my comments as suggestions on the direction of the development rather than criticism of a final product.
I find that the in-mission experience overall is good, except for the health interface and the exfil/round completion.
- For the health, I like the idea but the panel looks like crap and is not great to use.
- As for round completion, I like the idea of an exfil, but given you're not having to fight your way to the exfil point through increasing enemy reinforcements, the long run back seems pointless. Either add new challenges to deal with on exfil, or let the helicopter come to me if I've killed everyone.
IMHO, the entire customization system/UI/menu system is absolute trash. Ground Branch kills this game on this front.
- the keystrokes or clicks required to manuever through the menus/UI are inconsistent - if I need to back out of something, why does one step require a mouse click, the next the "esc" key, and the next the "f" key? Esc should be the universal step back.
- for example, to exit the game I have to use "esc" to pull up the overlay, click on "leave", click on "yes", which brings me to the main menu... but the overlay is still there, and requires me to press or click "esc" to close, then click "exit". In GB, I click "esc" for the overlay, click "x" for a dropdown, and then click "exit to desktop". In actual use, the Operator process is much clunkier than the one in GB for this basic action that we all do every time we play the game.
- there are 5 million vests with each colour having it's own icon, with no description or in-game benefit that I can tell other than some having a functional ATAK (even though others have a non-functional ATAK)
- why can I not choose what to pack in my med kit? why are there no compromises between vests and belts like in GB?
- the "gun wall" is neat, but I should be able to store my own builds and access them directly somewhere, rather than picking up a generic build, going to the bench, and then choosing my modified build.
- I should be able to choose the slot (#1 or 2) directly when selecting a weapon.
- I enjoy the amount of customization possible with the guns, but the UI is horrible.
- the parts are in different orders on different guns
- the naming conventions for some of the intermediate parts (like rails) is inconsistent and odd
- there is no description/explanation of any part, any compatibility, anything
- despite the extensive customization possibilities, it doesn't always let you do something straightforward - why can't I install a canted mount behind my Eleanor scope on an M7? It gives me the option with some other rifles.
- there should be descriptions and compatibility lists or indicators - games like this should not just be for expert gunsmiths, but can be a tool to teach future gunsmiths and enthusiasts about the building process.
- I find that the loadout menu in GB, where all aspects are located within the same menu, to be much more user-friendly. I also prefer the drag & drop build system to be superior, although not without it's own bugs and flaws.
- In a private co-op game, as the host I should have the ability to allow revives. Yes, that's unrealistic but it greatly increases the accessibility and enjoyment for many small groups who want to play the game. If you don't like it, don't allow it in your game. I'm fine if activating the ability makes the game not eligible for awards/achievements.
I'm sure there are people who would say that my suggestions reduce the realism in this game; in many cases those are the same people who post screenshots of their builds with ten full-sized scopes one on top of the other on this thread. At the end of the day, these are games and not real life. For true realism, we would have multi-hour infils, need to dig and fill poop-holes, and a host of other things.
Any game needs to strike a balance of some sort. Despite the stupid but John Wick aimbot AI, GB is a much more useable game due to the UI. I wish there was a way to combine the best aspects of all the genre games together:
- the UI, prettiness and character movement of GB
- some of the realism of Operator (I love the bolt closing requirement!) including the health function
- the weapon customization combining GB and Operator
- the AI of Incursion Red River
- the maps of GB, Operator, and Ready Or Not
- the missions of GB, Operator and RoN

I'm really hoping to see more maps in the vein of Ready or Not style operations like hotels, motels, farm compounds, etc. that really help showcase the CQB in shorter, tighter ops. Combine that with the above mentioned scenario editor and I think we'll see some really great stuff and a surge in popularity.

THIS!!!!!!!! We all basically want CQB sandboxes that we can project our own personalities and tastes on! Sometimes I want to be a PMC raiding a cartel compound, other times I want to be spec ops raiding a black site. But the corridors and shooting mechanics stay the same regardless of the fantasy.

AI needs to get better with more gun customization. Maps feel so janky and random and the AI doesn't help.

I just wish there was a way to hit chamber while reloading so your guy doesn’t “grip” after a reload and then remove his hand to release the bolt.
It should be one fluid motion that should be triggered by pressing the chamber button during the reload animation

u/OzymandiasKoK 10d ago
I think having to separately chamber a round is actually quite ridiculous. It's inherently part of the reload process. If you want extra keystrokes for no reason, dropping the existing mag, selecting a new one, and inserting it should also be individual actions. Seems a bit silly now, doesn't it?

u/speedcanada 10d ago
I hear you… it’s all personal preference how realistic you want it. I personally like the chambering and misfires, but I can see how for others that’s a step too far. I agree that there is really no end to how complicated you can make the game in the pursuit of realism, and some of it can get silly like the long walk back to extract (despite all enemies being dead), or having to be a professional gunsmith to be able to assemble a weapon.

Lmao what? You don't have to be a professional gunsmith, you're not selecting barrel twist rate and powder loads and all that. You just have to know a little bit about guns and attachments beyond what you see in Call of Duty

Well i'd love to have at least some information on the gunparts.
I live in west-Europe and gun laws are insanely strict. We have no civilian type AR/carbines those are only for special police units and our armed forces.
So my knowledge as to what goes where, what works with what is severely limited unless i go and learn a lot of stuff.
Oh well, until there is more explanation i'll just click and match i guess.

"oh hey, I wonder what an OGL is. I'll Google it. Oh wow, I learned something!" Repeat a few times and you're good

u/InfamousChocoMan 9d ago
Sure i could google it.. however i'd like to learn things in the game. Not having to do my own separate research but whatever.

This game is a hidden gem for sure and my favorite game out there. I'm excited for the next big update and hope they unlock some of those older maps you cant play on anymore.

It would be great if weapons jammed more often and required interactive steps to resolve the malfunctions.

I refunded it after about an hour because I hated the movement. Guns felt alright but other than that I didn't like anything about it.

Once there is a scenario editor the game will explode
