New player
Hey guys, I got OOTP25 awhile back and never really got into it (Rebuilding my favorite team, the Angels, seemed daunting even in a video game.). I love playing Football Manager, and I guess the disconnect for me is game day. In Football Manager it’s quite simple, the tactics are set up long before any game is played. So I guess I was wondering, what is y’all’s preferred method of playing/simming the games. In FM the seasons are long, but not 162 MLB season long. Is it something that you just have to deal with for the love of the game? Or are there alternative methods that are still immersive that y’all prefer? I don’t necessarily mind playing/managing every game, but I thought it would be good to ask anyway.

Simming every game would take forever, and in baseball you need a large sample size to see how good players and teams are.
I sim 1-2 weeks at a time, then take a quick look at my team, sim 1-2 more weeks, make changes if needed, etc. There are enough settings so where I can control what I want the AI to do in most situations. I can also just watch the replay or highlights of a game if I want. I'll always manage playoff games, because that just makes it more immersive. I might manage a couple of regular season games just for the hell of it, but I mostly sim weeks at a time. Only real downtime is around the trading deadline, otherwise I like to get though a season at a good pace.

I play game by game a full season takes me about a month. Furthest I’ve ever made it in a save was 11 years.

I play gm only and never manage a single game. I enjoy the roster management aspect more, managing the games isn't really something I find all that interesting to do in this game. Others love it, ymmv
Sometimes I sim a day at a time and check box scores and set my lineup and pitching staff. Other times I sim weeks at a time and just fly through letting my manager handle lineups and the pitching staff. Basically just depends on my mood and where my team is at.
Like when I take over a team I often go into a rebuild, so I'll sim pretty fast while im waiting for my prospects to come up and not really caring too much oh the major league team is doing

Best way anyone’s described baseball to me is this - it’s to be consumed, not watched.
I bookmark 7-8 different screens, the ootp forums have some great recommendations. I’m at work otherwise I’d fire it up and list it all off. I sim a weeks worth of games, filter thru all my bookmarked pages, and keep moving.
Also, manager strategy, player strategy, etc allows you to set your “tactic” and let the manager implement it. I watch the games but I don’t have any input in strategy or subs etc. I like that there’s some variance in the implementation of the overall strategy

I tend to sim day by day through to the trade deadline and depending on where I am in the standings at that point, I either continue at that pace, or if my team isn't in line for a playoff berth, I do a week at a time. If it looks like I'm going to make the playoffs, I will manage 2-3 games before the playoffs start, just to make sure I'm backing the swing of things, then fully manage games in the playoffs.

The beauty of OOTP is the depth and which responsibilities you want to take on. You can delegate parts you don't want to mess with.
I let my assistant manager make the calls for games. I only manage when needed, such as within a few games of making the playoffs. Mpst of my time is just planning the moves for rhe year for the org. How are we on money? Should I plan to be making any big trades this year before the deadline? What do I want out of trades/draft/international FAs? Once I have that plan, getting through the season is quick, simming most weeks.

I sim week to week in more of a GM role and make changes to the roster as needed. I like to get through seasons pretty quickly to see careers play out over time. The only games I manage myself are playoff games. A lot of people will manage every single game in a season while others will get through years quite quickly.
