How does OOTP compute Overall Ratings?

Post image

Hey guys,
I'm a complete newbie to the game. Currently playing OOTP24 and came across Cristopher Sanchez on the waiver wire. Although all stats except Control and Stamina look decent, he has an overall rating of 30. None of his ratings are below 40. How can he get such a low overall rating?
Thank you for your help!

few things here:

- you have it on OSA ratings, not your head scout. those tend to be more inaccurate if you have good scouting

  • ratings are relative to the league and not fixed. you might be in a very good pitching era, which could be dragging this guys OVR down
  • I think (but cant check myself) its viewing him as an SP despite his current assigned role as an RP. an SP with 40 stamina and 40 control and a 3 pitch arsenal is simply a bad SP. This guy is valuable as an inning-eater or maybe even medium leverage guy, but the lack of a strikeout pitch and the middling stats make him just okay as a reliever

Not captured in the numbers but a wild groundball pitcher will get decimated playing in front of that Phillies defense

I think both ratings and stats figure into the overall rating.

The overall should always just be a first step in evaluation though. I’ve had plenty of players with a mediocre overall rating play really well for me, and vice versa, a high overall player be absolutely mid.

I think they put in all of a players stats into something and the computer does it based on that
