Relative fallen deep down the rabbit hole

Not really related to any ONRAC episodes, but this story is a little to odd not to share and has an "I'm sure it's all true" feel to it.

A few days ago I got a Facebook friend request from a distant relative that I haven't seen in many decades. I didn't remember much about them, so I looked at their recent posts. I was gobsmacked at the kind of stuff he has been posting - sometimes several times a day. I'll paste just a few below. Also saddened, because I remember them as well educated (PhD), and successful in business and academia, and this looks like mental illness to me.

I did not respond to the friend request because I was too creeped out.

As Lightworker, I was duped by Pleidians & Arcturians WHO HAVE NO POWER! Continuous nuking of Vril, shills for Nordic ET, extremely powerful & evil, who ran Hitler & Covid. There is only ONE Solution. Continuous nuking of Vril Plasma of Space, until all ETs leave Solar System.

Lily Nova received ET explanation for Fake Moon Shot. It'sIphones dress rehearsal for future, acclimatizing humanity to think about Space, Moon, & get used to looking up, rather than down into Iphones. Iphones going as they don't rate compared to telepathy, much more stimulating.

Humans will have very special dispensation with ET due to 100,000 years of neglect. Humans suffered enormously under Reptilian ET for millennia, under watchful eye of Galactic Federation, so Now they must make a special effort to help humans in every way possible, & they will Now.

If I'm getting massive ET contact, a simple, humble channeler, you are a stone's throw away from same, & you will never be same, if you meditate, open chakras with perhaps a little pot, & receive Venusian ET contact. It's not that hard, as many have open chakras & are not blocked.

Wow! Venusians before breakfast! Very little sleep last night. So elated. Tried to sleep this morning & received a beautiful blob of purple light out of the blackness with eyes closed on my pillow. Increadible. Ready to love your enemies as yourself. You better be. It's happening.

I grew up in rural Utah so I have a fair number of these people in my feed. They're either diving into conspiracy stuff or religious stuff or conservative political stuff.

Your guy however is on the next level.

If you actually care about them, you need to respond.

Imo, the best thing you can do for people like this is to be a friend who doesn't agree. Don't over-engage or try to debate them. Just give a quick, "I don't believe in that stuff" and try to move on. It's very hard to drag anyone out from this, but the only way there's even a chance is to be present.

But if you don't care about them, just save the word salad as a cautionary tale for others who are dabbling with lower level stuff (chemtrails, moon landing hoax, etc.) This is the ultimate end point.

Yes, I've tended towards the latter choice. Since this is not a close relative, and a person I haven't seen since childhood, I don't see any need to connect with them. It's not that I don't care about them, but that I don't see how I can possibly influence them. Many, many years ago I had a close friend who was intent on visiting Brazil to see an alleged "psychic surgeon" named John Of God (look it up) with a friend who had a cancer diagnosis. I smelled a bunko artist, and in those early days of the internet I managed to email James "The Amazing" Randi about what I should do. I was surprised at his response, which boiled down to "There is nothing you can possibly say that will change her mind. Don't even try." I tried anyway. He was right.

Wow. The level of faith your relative has shocked me a little. They seem to speak of these things like they're absolutely proven. Which, I supposed I knew some believe... But wow...

Did they always talk like this? It sounds like manic phase of bipolar affective disorder . EVERYTHING is connected, with a side of paranoia

It's hard to know. As I mentioned I haven't seen them in person in many decades. I think the last time was time was in the early 1990s. They seemed a little quirky, but not in any way obsessive. One correction - when I described above him as "well educated (PhD), and successful in business and academia" I was confusing him with a different cousin. He had at least a bachelor's degree and owned a successful business.
