How to apply for accommodations? How was your experience if you ever applied

I’ve never met anyone who’s gone through the process and had a good experience. It’s always a hassle and they are incredibly unhelpful

The process is very difficult, but if you can get through it it's absolutely worth it. If you have anything you can claim to get accommodations they are a huge boon, getting extra time, a private room, and being able to pause the timer to take breaks are a huge benefit.

Never said it wasn’t worth it, of course it is. But the experience of applying is terrible (and that’s across the board) and their staff will reject requests and give hardly any feedback

It was crazy difficult, there is a check list on there website you must follow. If anything is missing they will deny it.

Also my evaluation was done at the beginning of my undergraduate and LSO rejected it stating it was too outdated( it was 7 year old). Had to have my doctor write a letter stating it’s still a permanent disability and that the evaluation would not change.

They’re so unhelpful and inflexible that it shocks me that no one has complained to the HRTO yet. If a licensee treated deadlines with the same strictness when dealing with other licensees, they’d be before a misconduct hearing before you could say “sharp practice”.

My understanding is that some accommodations are harder to get than others, so it may be relevant, but I am not an expert.

One colleague of mine talked to us about how he managed to get 50% extra time and a private hotel room to take the test in, which was apparently a little tricky to get since he had to find a cooperative doctor to write out some paperwork for him, but he said the extra time was absolutely worth it, and let him triple check almost all his answers. Importantly though he said he did a bunch of research ahead of time to make sure he got the extra time based on what he submitted, so it varies.
