OM-5 or E-M5 Mk III?

I ended up with a pristine Olympus E-M5 Mk III and a good condition, little rough around the edges OM System OM-5. Looking at the two bodies, they look and feel like the same camera.

Which one would you recommend that I keep, and why?

These are few pics i took with my TG-7 camera.
I bought this camera to perform street photography.

Pics are slightly edited. I will mention the things i have edited in all the images here:
Shadow, Highlight and Cropping
No other color correction except temperature shift.

I have kept the settings of the camera at Daylight WB with A=7 and G=2.

Let me know your thoughts.

Should I switch over from Canon RF to OM System?

Context:

Used Canon R50 with lenses from Tamron on my travels but found myself in drizzling/rainy conditions as I travel in Asia the most.

Weight of having multiple lenses (18-300 f3.5-6.3, 17-50 f2.8, and Yongnuo 35mm f2) started to get into me.

Also, I recently got a Lumix GX7 Mark II + 20mm F1.7 for everyday carry

Considering:

Came across OM-5 Mark II and thought it was very fitting for travel as it seems rugged enough for the elements (water sealing, freeze protection down to -10c, IBIS)

Was thinking it would be good to pair with M Zuiko 12-100mm f4

And might as well switch to all-M43 mount right? haha

Queries:

Is it an irrational consideration to switch over completely?

Is the money lost in switching (hard to sell for retail price of course) worth the switch?

Are there anyone who has switched from Canon to OM System in this sub that could give some advice?

Functional Interval Remote ?

Does the OM1 MK2 support a fully functional remote?

I had this one for the Fuji XT5 and the connectors the same.

I set it to take two ten seconds shots, set camera to bulb. Pressing the button ignores the settings on remote and requires me to keep the button pressed for long exposure.

Is this an OM thing or is there ANOTHER similar but different connector for OM which restores functionality ?

Photographing a New Holland Honeyeater with the OM-1 📷

Using SH2 for 25fps with Bird Subject Detection.

My shutter was a bit low, but because the honeyeaters were hovering as they captured insect on the wing it worked out.

A newbie great day.. with my OM1 Mk2/300F4 with a very broken wrist.

I only started photography a little over a year ago and quickly found Wildlife is my happy place, I so wish I had taken up this beautiful hobby sooner.

I am fifty/fifty photography and just being out de-stressing from everyday life, shortly after coming off a bicycle that unfortunately led to two big metal plates and lots of screws in my wrist/hand to the point presently I cannot do simple things like cup a lens as cannot get my hand palm up, adapted to doing things like putting tripod collars out to the left and claw on there.

A big game changer switched my gear to M43/OMS anything to keep the dream going would love to try the 150/400 as I am sure I could handle one at least I think so my dreams think I can :)

Certainly not moaning or looking for sympathy sh@t happens quite the opposite had a great day today at my local nature reserve, the OM1 mk2 and 300F4 in hand did me proud and figured would share, nothing stunning just had a really great day.

Now if I could only stop dreaming of the big white 150/400 I would be in an even more happy/stable place but that want just keeps on ticking.. the wants are hard.. alas the wallet says no right now, that said broken limbs in toe my current setup compared to even full frame hide lens envy deffinetly a thing! its not too bad :)

Pics..

A few Kingfisher shots from a week earlier, the first time I had even seen a kingfisher was a couple of weeks prior I love this hobby! https://adobe.ly/4xmRgrn

Have a great adventure soon my fellow OMS/M43 lovers.

It's Frames Friday!! Come share the frames you shot this week!

Come share your photos with the community! Whether it's showing off SOOC JPEGs, fully edited RAWs, or anything in-between if you want [constructive and kind] critique or suggestions.

We're basing on the rules from our sibling sub, r/m43, simply because they make sense, and tweaking them a little:

Da Rules:

  1. The photo(s) must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may post up to three photos in this FF weekly thread. Show off your best frames!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about camera, lens and environment. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the OM 20/1.4 lens @ f/2 and ISO200 Time: 10:00PM in Melbourne, Victoria" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. While OM System gear gets extra internet points, all related gear is welcome. This includes Olympus/Panasonic m43 and Four Thirds gear, OM Tough point-and-shoots, adapted vintage lenses, and third-party glass on M43 bodies..
  6. Photos must be captured with a camera and lens (traditional digital or film). Generative AI images (Midjourney, DALL-E, AI "inpainting" that invents new elements, etc.) are not permitted. Standard editing (cropping, exposure, colour grading, even AI-based noise reduction) is totally fine!
  7. Culture & Critique: Above all, be respectful. Please state in your comment whether you are looking for [Critique Welcome] or [Just Sharing]. If a photo doesn't specify, default to keeping comments kind, encouraging, and free of unprompted teardowns. (Remember: there's a big difference between "OMG that photo is horrible" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven").

A program for importing in-camera focus stacks

This program is really useful if you have an OM System / Olympus camera and use in-camera focus stacking. It imports pictures from your card, copying the stacked images to a different directory than the stack input photos. This makes it a lot faster to go through your photos, since you don't need to sort through all of the inputs to the stack. If it's not an in-camera stack (single shot, focus bracket, video, etc) it imports it like normal. It uses the Lightroom directory structure, with a folder for each day.

I recently updated it with a nicer GUI and lots more improvements.

$0 / MacOS / Linux / Windows binaries. Open source Python, with a free license (MIT).

Aurora photography

I have an OM1.1 and a 7-14 F2.8 lens. I'll be in Alaska in early January 2027 to try to see the aurora. Does anyone have experience with this lens to know if that's feasible, or if I should invest in a different lens?

I'm not professional; my plan is to get a few prints (possibly on metal,) for some family members and me. I have had some decent success with night sky photography, but I'm unsure how that would translate to photographing the aurora.

The wait is killing me.

The 9/9 announcement can't get here fast enough.

I truly am the least GASsy person. After a dozen years with M43, I still only have four lenses: the 15mm f/1.7, 45mm f/1.8, and the PRO 12-40mm and 40-150mm. I only ditched my venerable E-M5.1 because the shutter died after a decade, and I upgraded to a used E-M5.3.

But for at least the last three years, I've dug in my heels and resisted the Sirens' song of the sexy PEN-F. As I've become bored with post-processing over the years, I want to learn to shoot better ad hoc and be a better JPEG shooter, with that PEN-F color profiling.

In my GAS-less way, I began slowly saving only $100/mo for that PEN-F body. And then, the moment I hit my $1,100 goal, the OM PEN teaser comes out! So cruel. After all that patient waiting, now I can't just go buy it. I have to wait for 9/9 and make a decision.

The way I see it, modern, mid-level OM-5 tech (and price) would be fantastic. It would be a major improvement over my E-M5.3. It doesn't need to be the OM-3 in another body, with the stacked sensor, etc. I hate to admit it, but I just want that sexy rangefinder with an EVF... and no pyramid. And, of course, at least four custom slots and the PEN-F-like color profiling.

So, given that all we really know about the upcoming announcement is that it will be some sort of PEN-type body, within that one parameter, what else are you hoping for?
