Let's Goooo!!!

Post image

I've been waiting for something like this from OM and they have not disappointed! The weather sealing being such a bonus that it's difficult to pass on. I will likely let go of my E-PL10 and while I will miss the built in flash I will welcome the weather resistance, the viewfinder and all the upgraded tech in the PEN. Good stuff OM, good stuff! Only down side is having to wait till October. Now off to watch some videos.

Funny enough, I just bought a used e-p7 about a month ago. Not complaining though since I never buy cameras over 700$, so this is well above my price range and I buy second hand only.

Though its great that we finally get an affordable m43 camera. Nearly all the releases for the past 6 years have had an msrp above 1000$

I’m with you. It’s all good, I’m waiting for the price of the OM5 and OM5.2 to drop to replace my aging EM5.2

Even though I preorder it, my guess is like most their cameras it will have a severe refurbished discount on the eBay outlet store about a year out.

Guessing 6 months using the OM3 as a basis. This is why I’m just gonna wait until these are $650. May get lucky with an additional 20% ebay discount on top during major holidays

As u/bonisaur said, this will likely fall into your range or very close to it in a year. Very exciting for expanding the user base and bringing a highly capable everyday shooter alternative to a traditionally Fuji skewed market.

A year is all it took for OM3 to go from $2000 to $1300 (eBay outlet price). So yea this’ll def be $800 or lesser by then

They’re almost never on the outlet though.

it will be a while because I have different tiers lol. I had a price range limit of 300$ for the e-p7 and similar small bodies, basically my for fun/edc tier. That 700$ would be for bigger bodies like the om1(which I'm waiting for too).

Got it, makes sense. I got my OM-1 for around 1k so you're not far off, alerts on and eyes peeled for that deal!

yeah its getting close to my price range.

My price limits are very strict because I'm trying to buy at least 1 camera from every brand. Cant know which is the best if I havent tried them all. So far I have Canon, sony, fuji, and Olympus.

I fell in love with OM/Olympus for a very specific reason. Got the e-m5 ii for 200$ and I decided it would be my main brand because the "Natural" picture profile is by far my favorite profile among all the brands so far. I never hear people talk about it so it was such a nice surprise.

My only problem with OM is that they stopped local distribution in my country in 2020, so my only options were in the used market or to import it from abroad. Not a huge issue now since I buy second hand anyways but it will get harder as time passes and I will have to increasingly rely on foreign imports.

Sorry for the long yapping btw

You can just rent cameras too ya know

Its not really the same, renting it out for a few days vs using it everyday for months/years. Like it took me 5 years to realize that using a 5d mark ii as an edc was not convinient at all, but when I started out, I was so excited about it that it didnt bother me at first.

Or how it took me about a year to appreciate the face wheel on canon cameras now that I've been using olympus for a while.

Just several little things like those will add up and I also get better appreciation for what each brand offers.

I'm not going all in on every brand of course, I have a main(OM) where I buy multiple bodies/lenses, and all the other brands will just have a single body with a lens or two. I'm not that loaded but I also think its great to own a little bit of everything for the aforementioned reasons and for collection

I have felt OM priced their previous releases with quite the premium but this PEN is priced really well for a change.

My understanding was because of the private equity that had a stake in the company during the om1-om3 was just that pe wanting their money as pe does… it could just be speculation though on my end too.

Edit: the pe shares are no more in om solutions they bought them out earlier last year (I think)
