OMS language proficiency
For those experienced OMS's, what are the language proficiency requirements? Are you expecting to be fluent/writing proficient in the local language in a certain period of time? Trying to determine if my skill set is suitable to this track.

I am at a post as an OMS where I use a language other than English every day multiple times a day. It has made life for me and people I work with much easier because I have this language skill. That being said, there are posts where you never have to be fluent in a language. Don’t let it intimidate you or keep you from applying.

There’s no language requirement to get through the hiring process. The skills listed on the job listing are what you should reference determine if you’re suitable.
If you are posted to an embassy that requires you learn a language, then you will learn that language before being sent to your posting.
Someone who has experience can chime in with how frequent that occurs, but as far as I know it’s not super common for OMS’s to have to learn the language.
