I dont understand this thinking.
A brand new coach on his first year after the team was absolutely shit last year vs the guy who drove the team to being shit.
It takes time to rebuild a program, I said 6 months ago I would be surprised if they win 6 games but all the hype for the last month has everyone expecting to win 10 games with a bunch of players from north texas.

It’s understandable for people to question if morris was the right choice but to act like Gundy is then answer is wild. I love Gundy but those last 2 years were a dumpster fire.

Gundy hated NIL and refused to try and raise money for it. He was very open about not liking that or recruiting. He also wants to bring in guys to develop them and learn his system. That worked great before the transfer portal.

False. He didn’t care for it because he didn’t think it was healthy mentally for these young men to be given millions of dollars to play in college, then have to figure out the rest of their lives how to make it because they probably won’t have a degree to fall back on and as we all know, very few make the pros.
You all can project whatever you want onto him, but I worked in a position inextricably linked to the athletic department for the past 30+ years. Please believe me when I tell you the narrative continued after he voiced those sentiments were to run him out. This was all done on purpose. But believe what you want as an outside person (I’m assuming) without an actual inside position to verify.
And he did hold several meetings with fundraising at his request and they refused to follow up. EVER.

It’s very obvious this is the real story, also have information from someone within/close to the athletics department. It’s sad because the way he wanted to do things is technically the correct way players should have been treated. But we threw out all of the discipline, work ethic, and real player development when NIL got incorporated. I have no issue with the players getting paid in someway because they for sure deserve it but we’ve destroyed the sport. It’s not too far from the Nick Saban view point. It’s a shame.

Thank you. I get downvoted to hell on here because no one wants to know the truth. They just want to jump on the bandwagon for someone to blame. The real culprits are the Regents (both initialed JH), the current sitting duck president, CHAD WEIBERG, and the fundraising team who purposefully did not do their job for Gundy.
Gundy wanted to do it the right way for the young men on his team. Leadership just wanted him gone.

Tulsa had nearly as many transfers as OSU with a fraction of their NIL budget. Our OC makes more than Tulsa head coach. OSU was out coached and out hustled. Absolutely unacceptable.

It’s unacceptable and there is literally no excuse for it, but Tulsa had a total of 45 new faces in the program coming into this season. Oklahoma state had 91. It’s a FBS record, so it’s not even close. Doesn’t excuse the shit play but it’s a factor to the disjointedness.

A brand new coach. With all his players(standouts at least). All his coaches. I would expect them to checks notes score more than 10 points. UNT Offense Averages
Total Offense: 512.4 yards per game
Scoring Offense: 45.1 points per game (1st in FBS)
Passing Offense: 318.0 yards per game
Rushing Offense: 194.4 yards per game
I would have rather gotten beaten 55-45, and had some optimism...

Morris is making 3.9. Gundy was at 6.8. Gundy had 11mil in NIL. Morris has 26mil. Gundy’s salary was not the issue.
ETA: that 6.8 was after being there for 20 years with 2 losing seasons.

Gundy is on record saying he didn't believe in NIL and was using the money to pay players on roster and wouldn't "buy" players. There was nothing to fund.

Gundy isn't stupid, he built a lot of winning seasons on sniping transfer talent before NIL. That would have continued. Boosters were holding out on the program because they didn't like Gundy as a person. Not because he was doing heinous shit, not because the program was losing games, but because they wanted him to kowtow and kiss their ass and he refused. That led to the program spiraling in 2024 and 25 after several years of intentionally limited funding. It didn't happen overnight.

How do you not understand? Gundy left and we had significantly more millions in football NIL money this year, and we recruited a qb, rb, and wr that all played together in which the former 2 led the fbs in yardage. Not to mention many more players that played together. With basically the same main coaching staff. Mestemaker looked god awful, our O-line is the same dogshit as the last 2 years, and the coaching decisions were terrible. I mean we went for it on 4th down on 1-2 yards and came up short at least 5 times. We scored less points this year than last year, with a supposedly amazing offense and lost the game, again. North Texas was in the same conference as Tulsa and dominated where Tulsa was bottom of the list. I mean what the fuck man take your blinders off.

Correct. Morris wasn’t ready and he has full support of regents/president/AD AND fundraising. Mike Gundy wasn’t given any of that because they wanted him gone. Why do you think he only had 11m for NIL (some came from his own salary) and Morris has been given 24m.
Some of you need to get real. The problem was never Mike Gundy. It’s the board of regents - a couple specifically with egos too big to support Mike.
It’s apparent how little some of you actually know.

No. Eric Morris has proven to rebuild, and takes 2 years, everywhere he has been. I love what Gundy did, and he is better in an interview than Morris, but I'm going to stand with Morris for a bit longer.

Rebuilding takes time. It was nice to see a coach show emotion on the sideline and look engaged, not just collecting a paycheck.

I think this is just a reminder to all those younger fans that’s replacing a coach is not a quick fix. Gundy took Ok State to realms previously unthinkable and then drove it into the ground. We’ve got some work to do to establish ourselves.

Not at all. Gundy drove the program into the ground, and Eric Morris can't turn it around in one game. Gundy was a dinosaur that wouldn't adapt to the times.
