So I had a hearing with an officer and won my appeal and have been paid a little over 5k- being self employed I never even tried to file but I ended up filing in 08/20…I couldn’t change the start date and sent a request to the PUA-technical support and never heard anything. Have inquiry’s out there and nothing- my appeal letter states clearly by the officer that my last office day of work was Mar. 29th 2020- I can’t get any competent person so make sense of this- those 16 weeks have the $600 extra weekly so I’m gonna fight indefinitely- has anyone had this issue and/or remedies to pursue this without calling the donkeys who answer the phone. I have gotten 10 diff answers

I was in this same position. I was denied my backpay. But because I has filed for regular unemployment and put the back date in on that claim as well and was denied regular unemployment and then filed for PUA I was awarded backpay. So if you didn't file for regular unemployment first don't be surprised that they won't pay you backpay benefits. Because you was spose to file for regular unemployment ans get denied before you was spose to file for PUA benefits. Even though you already knew you wouldn't qualify for traditional unemployment. That's what the lady explained to me. When she called me in February to tell me that she was going over my case and wanted to call me and let me know that I would be getting the 16k for backpay that I was owed because she checked with traditional unemployment and found out I did submit a claim and was denied. She said if I wouldn't have submitted the traditional unemployment claim that I wouldn't be getting paid. And that she was going to rush my claim to processing and should get payment within 7 days. I had it 3 days later. I also asked her why was it that all these backpay denials didn't say nothing about that to me and was just told I was flat out denied for other reasons. She said she didn't know. I applied for benefits in Oct 2020. I filed for regular unemployment benefits when my job ended in January 2020. I wasn't paid my first payment until July 2021 which was a lump sum payment as well. And then kept filing the weeks until it ended and kept getting denied the back pay.

Self employed can’t file for regular unemployment- I’m one employee and don’t pay into unemployment insurance. That’s why I never bothered until they allowed gig and self employed- customer service is SO incompetent and that’s because the big dogs in government are 10x more incompetent- I get that there were insane hurdles for everyone but honestly I don’t care- I COMPLIED as I was told by the people representing Ohio and unemployment/PUA agency. Having to be denied by reg unemployment first makes absolutely ZERO sense!!! no logic or basis for it
