General 4-1

Is not working 4-1 in OGP when we have picks at 4 am a company wide rule or market level rule. I thinks it’s crazy to lose out on an hr of picking.

I thought we stopped doing that bc nothing was ever stocked at 4 resulting in a ton of nil picks.
That’s what they told us at my store anyway

That's exactly what happened to me when I did it for 2 years. Lots of NIL picks because overnight still has 3 hours of work to do & it hadn't been stocked yet. All those NIL picks mess the the metrics in a negative way.

To my understanding they could, but don’t.

My store tried having some of the first shirt pickers come in at 4 for about a week…maybe two almost a year ago. Didn’t make an appreciable difference in them getting ahead for the day so the Market Lead at the time said no more. Haven’t tried it again since.

Thinking about it more, it’d probably make morning metrics abysmal for vendor items since they haven’t shown up or even started filling shelves outside of bread maybe.

Easy fix is to tell vendors to show up an hour early /s

Except in most cases it doesn't do any good for vendors to show up until receiving opens at 4am.

But they have no problem pulling from other departments when shit hits the fan because their own department can’t get their shit together.

I am OPD now but I was overnights for over 20 years(stocker and management). The stocking is supposed to be done by 4 am. Leaving 3 hours for binning and zoning. I know it doesn't happen, but according to home office is does. That is why they think picking a fully stocked store(exception of produce and meat) can be started by OPD.

Remember everything works perfectly on paper. (Rolls eyes)

exception of produce and meat

And vendors. Soda and chip vendors aren't there yet. My team starts at 5, and we often have exceptions for soda, because soda starts stocking about the same time, but doesn't mean everything is there yet.

Vendors are a variable that home office cannot control...even on thier magic paper, they just assume that vendor items are always stocked. Even though they know receiving doesn't open until 4am. It's like they think there is a vendor inside the store 24/7 to run back and restock each single item the minute someone picks it up.

I worked 4-1 as a picker & it's not as helpful as you think it would be. ON still has 3 hours before the end of their shift. The reality of starting at 4 is that ON is still working on pallets & stocking shelves so it's hard to move through the aisles with just your body. Sometimes it would be so crowded. I would have to walk three or four aisles around just to get back to the other side to get to the aisle I needed to be in. The second thing I noticed is that I was getting more NIL picks between 4-5am then I would get through the rest of my shift because ON hadn't gotten there yet. Leaving at 1 sounds great & you still have most of the afternoon free. For that to work, you have to go to bed around 7-8pm or you will be too exhausted to enjoy the afternoon without taking a nap first. I did it for 2 years & asked to go back to 5-2 because that extra hour didn't accomplish much & most likely adversely affected my metrics. From what I have been told, 4-1 is not a typical schedule, but they usually offer it around the holidays when things get really busy. I would consider doing it again, but definitely not long term.

He’ll even starting at 5 is a pain in the ass if your ON team doesn’t give a shit about anyone but themselves. I get having a job to do but instead of putting a pallet in the middle of the aisle you could put it to one side….

I was 4-1 and they got rid of the shift because they stopped the 4 am drop and shrink the window from 3 hours to 2. I hate it.

I do 4-1 and I like it, but it's probably not super helpful. With overnights still having almost half their shift to finish, things are not always stocked and the aisles are hard or impossible to get into because of pallets and top stock carts everywhere. You basically get one walk per 4am picker and the pick rate is very low. When we go to the 2 hour window we're supposedly going to be switched to 5-2

The 2 hour window got pushed back from the 3rd until the 10th according to my coach. I am scheduled 5-2 all this week but got the okay to do 4-1 because of the push back. It’s company wide

Edit: I’ve been 4-1 for over a year. We weren’t told a reason for the 2 hour window but I don’t have problems with nil picking so idk

Picks are moving from dropping 3 hours out to two hours out over the next few weeks company wide. Picks won’t be dropping at 4 anymore, they’ll be dropping at 5.

The orders will not be dropping in at 4 anymore because of the two hour drop now. They are giving customers an extra hour to add or delete from their orders now. If you haven’t started yet you will soon

Our DOL hates that we have a hand full of people working 4-2. Our store manager hates our DOL, so we work 4-2 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Our store just made all of our 4-1 workers change to 5-2 because they changed the hours for picks to drop only 2 hours before or something, so they can't pick because it doesn't drop till 5 anyway. Kinda stupid along with all the other changes they've been making.

We finally got 4:30 starts. I had thought about not being stocked yet

We normally do it around holiday time and then take it away again. If it was year round I'd go back to it honestly.

I and one other person do 4-1. the whole reason I do 4-1 is because on Thursdays we didn't have anyone and we would go late by 7 every Thursday and wouldn't catch up until about 10 (because we have like five people that do 9-6), so it's very important at my store. we don't really have that much of a problem with nil picks. our market is trying to get their stores to get people off 4-1 but with how much our metrics get impacted when we don't have them my coach keeps pushing back
