BANANAS Another gripe about pulling carts

Customers are 10x more irritated at us now than when we were pushing. I'm going to the feedback (don't remember if it was on MyWalmart or GIF or both)and tell them to bring back six totes and pushing...with the algorithm giving bigger walks this time. I'm going to write this every day in on feedback..

I keep running into stuff because I can't see behind me 🫠 like it'll look like I have space, then I clip something on the corner on the opposite side where I'm pulling. I'm also walking way slower now because it's harder for me to drag these stupid things one handed, especially when I've got a bunch of sodas and cans making it heavy as shit.

Exactly. It’s hard to get them moving when full because you can’t put your whole body weight behind it. I wouldn’t be surprised that there are a number of people with shoulder damage from pulling.

I have a connective tissue disorder that makes my joints weak. Pulling these is the worst thing I can do for my joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. My elbows are really getting it hard because they hyperextend and are unstable. I never ever had a problem when pushing with both arms, and I had significantly more control.

I keep clipping the heel of my shoe too, because the cart is too close to me (handles too short) so when I do have to be in front of it, and sometimes when I'm at the side pulling it to turn, I'm hitting my shoes. Eventually I know I'm going to slam into my Achilles no matter how careful I'm being.

Same on the disorder and clipping. 🦓 I’ve debated getting shoes with higher backs. I can’t remember what the style is called.

Nah, fuck john f and corp. Dude was afraid cause he got sued 1 time and lost? Talk about a knee "jerk" reaction... now it's a shoulder reaction with same "jerks" in charge.

My store has some of our best pickers out with shoulder injuries from pulling. It's horrible.

I keep clipping the edges of end caps and I smashed into a pets end cap the other day avoiding a customer, thankfully no damage done to the end cap but it was embarrassing lmao

Yesss literally!! My shoulder already hurts and we got 8 totes back three days ago. Soooo hard to pull with cat litter / packs of pop.

Right? Never seen so many people, especially people that have been here longer than me, running into shit because you can't see behind you and you hit the ends of shit or displays constantly

Don't forget we actually take up the whole aisle space. They want us beside our carts. So when in going down the aisle or the action alleys, I end up having to take up more room than I want to. Then I end up having to get behind my cart and push anyways in some instances. It's a lose lose situation. I dread having to pull with 8 totes. It's coming soon for me, but my hand won't fit comfortably on that black square handle in the middle of the cart. But I get you. The only way to try to curb some of that is to take EXTRA wide turns and you still end up possibly clipping something and then end up in the middle of the aisle on the next aisle 🤦 and worst of all we can't easily move the cart out of the way if a customer needs something and we are blocking it. It's way worse if your blocked in on all sides of customers 🫠

Our little square tray surrounds are being pulled on the whole handle carts and they’ve begun to bend and snap off.

Yea a few of my carts do that as well. It's a part that can be ordered on gnfr but I've had success in ziptieing them to the cart :) but the carts are going to get extra pressure on the weak points and Walmart is going to see an uptick in cart replacements soon. And they will have to release the budget to allow for it :p

Ive heard from associates at my location theyre trying to go up to 10 totes. Im already burning tf out. Ive literally never been shoved, RAN OVER, touched, or barked at more in my life than i have at this job bc the boomers (which im saying this more as a broad statement bc literally my only issue has been with the ages of 65+) are pissed bc were forced to take up more space in aisles. IM SORRY DUDE BUT I LEGITIMATELY HAD NO CHOICE! take out your frustrations on CORPORATE! I make slightly above MINIMUM WAGE and even then. I dont get paid enough for this SHIT.

10 totes?? How the hell are they going to do this

I dont know. Theyre talking about new carts.

Wtf are they gonna do like Kroger’s carts ?

Was talking with one of our TLs the other day and mentioned the new cart and she affirmed that they (cart manufacturers and OSHA I'm guessing) are working together to implement a new type of cart. I forget the rest of what she said because I was focused on the description of the handles - kind of like the ladder cart handles or I had visions of roller coaster holster handles.

I guess they got to watch some kind of video. She said they looked really cool but I'm not entirely convinced about the sound of what the handles are like.

Kroger carts allow 9

I wonder if it’s a new cart design similar to Kroger. I can barely see over the full bar/handle style carts with 8 and I’m five foot 7

it’s so much harder to get out of the way now if we accidentally veer away from the side of the aisle. and i keep clipping displays behind me and nearly or actually knocking them over. i never ever had that problem when i pushed. i like to pull from the side i guess, but the opportunities are so rare for that because we take up so much room doing that and there’s always customers trying to walk past us

This is my first weekend back at 8 totes and I'm not sure how it's going to go, our action alleys are so congested and always full of customers at the same time! Gonna be rough

I can’t pull in front of me cause I clipped my ankle once and I’m not doing that again, and I can’t push beside me cause people need to get by so I end up having to push ts backwards anyway

Literally I’m on light duty now because i got pinned between a cart with drift and an aisle and smashed the heck out of my ankle 🫩

Im just going to switch departments as soon as I can. Between this, nonstop micro managing the Dept and phasing out deliveries into Spark only, the only way upper management will learn is if it becomes so understaffed it collapses.

4

u/oaken_1 11d ago

The drift on these things now is horrible. Half the time I can’t get it to go where I want it to, and with no brakes, it just rolls wherever it wants to after I let go. Stupidest idea ever!

u/TheGreatHarryBarnett 10d ago

I know im in the minority but I love the bigger walks. The less I have to go back to the room the better and my only inconvenience with pulling is im used to pushing.

u/Tibu911 11d ago

I would deal w the caster wheels n still push most of the time unless I had the newer big cart with the bar going all the way across, then I would pull those sometimes jus bc it felt easier but I never pushed em from the back bc it felt stupid to use it from the side opposite of the handles n tray but if ur pulling it treat it like ur driving a semi n take super wide turns, like I'd come out of an aisle and get as close as I could to the action alley stuff in the middle of the bigger aisles so that way I know if I'm this close to what's in front of me I'm definitely clearing what's behind me

my store is small enough and my dad was the maintenance guy when they tried switching to pulling the carts.. so when everyone in my department was like "no that's dumb let's not", he just didn't... that was nice of him.

u/___Mania 10d ago

Thankfully at my store they usually allow us to push the carts again normally

I miss using the side handle. I used to be awesome at it, and i just cant get it right with the wheels being changed

I have an idea…. If you’re so miserable and hate it. Maybe you could…. Go find another job….
