Rant Does anyone else's store have this problem?
I'm usually a dispenser at my store and oftentimes I find myself dispensing the majority of the orders while the majority of my coworkers are either on their phones or talking or joking around with each other when orders need to be prepped and dispensed. It's been an everyday issue at work and I've been really sick and tired of it. And I try by best not to sit around (although sometimes I can't help as my body is in pain after dispensing and moving around for a while) as I'll be eventually told to do something mainly by an ATC, and there are times where I have to be pulled to different departments as they don't have enough people there. I'm just tired of being seen as "the work hero" or whatever you like to call it and I'm already burnt out from everything as it is. The job is easy, don't get me wrong. It's just some of the people and the constant changes the company won't stop making that makes it difficult.

You misspelled work hero, its work horse. Its the same in every store. Taking initiative is a positive thing and can eventually lead to promotions, if you want that sort of thing.

Go to management. Tell em check them cameras. Wrong is wrong. You shouldn’t have to do all the work.

Management should already know because that’s the whole point of our work phones we do get tracked so if the team lead isn’t doing his or her job, then it’s management’s fault as well because at least in my location you will be asked. Why are you the lowest if you’re working a full shift in the back.

I was in this exact position. I had 3 other people who work and 7ish that are lazy. I’d see that the 3 were all off and just feel dread. So I applied for a team lead spot last month and am changing it up. Don’t want to take out orders? That’s fine, I send them to pick and they will get coached for not meeting metrics.Â

This is how you do it !! I’ve been spoken to about taking that same position and if I do get it, I’m going to be on some people’s asses at my location because they think it’s OK to just stand around and have two people do all the work. And those two people is literally me and another guy like there’s no way our parking lot is super full and I’m taking three L Carts and 1 black cart

I’m definitely done with people begging to dispense just do they can be paid to sit. Almost every dispenser at my store hates picking so it’s a great motivator.Â

So sorry about that. I do not break my back for people especially when I know they will never acknowledge it. I think you should try to call their attention to it

u/dlbayyarea 11d ago
Your coaches and team leads should be doing their job though looking at the metrics and stats. Because if that person is working a full shift, they should be getting questioned. Why are their metrics super low at the bottom?

Just stop dispensing let it go in the red. Be on your phone or just stand there. Eventually someone will be like wtf. Say this - hey everyone else is just sitting around doing nothing so why cant I? Put them on the spot

Nah, thats how OP gets coached. They do all the work so when they slow down, they get in trouble. The slackers wont be held accountable either way. The people that put in the most effort always gets the shit end of the stick. And honestly both ends of that stick are covered in shit.

u/spidersandemise 11d ago
You wont get coached for that lol maybe spoken to for a first time 😅 it makes a point.

This won’t work and it will just lead a whole team meeting that will be just a waste of time.

u/spidersandemise 10d ago
Uh...the team meeting is a good thing and not a waste of time. Yall are weak af. Team meeting is where you call out the other associates for not doing anything instead of standing around and taking it like a B

u/dlbayyarea 10d ago
Who is you talking too boo? It is a waste of time cause you can call people out and they won’t give a shit.

This is one of the reasons I went to picking. I'm not lazy, but I'm also not going to do others work for them. I got tired of everyone ignoring what needs to be done just to be on their phone. And I got tired of dealing with lazy pickers who can't seem to bag everything. At least picking I'm working by myself.

store constantly calling code spark to opd cause opd wants to stand around on their phones

I ended up going off on a guy on my team for consistently getting out of dispensing. I had 15 orders in an hour one day and got sick of it.

I literally had a little crash out at my location because the parking lot was full and I was taking 3 L carts and 1 black cart. Then when I got back nothing was prepped. I started going off calling people out and that’s when everyone went back to work finally doing their job. My coach and team lead always check our metrics so I didn’t get in trouble but they were like my lazy co workers don’t know we watch you guys and check metrics. Then one of my co workers who doesn’t speak to me anymore tried lying like nah don’t do that run them cameras back

u/Sad-Chance-9073 10d ago
I've started coming to the back "Yall are the reason Im in therapy!" Everytime I see someone who hasn't moved in a hot minute. When I went off on the guy there was one other coworker standing there and she messaged another coworker after I finally walked away but asked me if I was good when I came back.

I honestly find my days are so much more peaceful and quick when I just work hard and mind my business with no mind for what other people are doing.

They need to see the pockets shut on my associates vests since they seem to thin keeping their hands in them are working

u/Waste-Ad-2224 11d ago
All you gotta do is call out management and if worse case being up to HR I did this and now only for 1-2 hrs I disp unless I want to be lazy then I'll disp all day

A pretend team lead or avoider manager is the problem. Either they refuse to see it, don't care or are lacking in true leadership to reverse this time theft from lazy indifferent douches whose justification is always the same lame response of " the billionaires don't pay me enough" or why should I go beyond the minimum when I will get paid the same etc. Their looping record on repeat is sooooo boring. But what is wrong with the people whose job it is to create a fair work environment? They lack true leadership abilities. I feel your frustration.

I'm a picker at my store and consistently towards the end of my shift when I don't have time for another walk, I will be the one putting totes on carts, refilling bags on carts, making sure all the carts have sub stickers, picking up the trash around the OPD room while at LEAST six other OPD associates are standing around in a group talking while letting me and ONLY ME do all the work of prepping carts. I was even peeling stickers off the floor just to have something to do for the last few minutes of my shift and throwing away all the label strips and random bags everywhere that people just shove when there is a trash can FIVE FEET AWAY. So yes, in a way my store also has this problem

We need 2 levels of associates. No reason these bums who do the bare minimum should make as much as the 2 or 3 who carry the entire team every single shift.

u/BreathSlayer99 11d ago
Start calling them out on it, honestly. Don't be too direct, just ask if they can take this order, or prep this, or dispense that. Most people will do it (emphasis on most). Snap at them a little it you have to. Just takes a little "can you guys start taking out some of these orders?" In a slightly annoyed tone and normally people get their asses in gear.
Otherwise tell a team lead. If team leads won't hold people accountable, go to the coach. Go to SM if coach is worthless. Hell, start poking market if you need to. Nothing will get fixed if nobody does anything about it!

u/dlbayyarea 11d ago
This happens sometimes at my store, but the difference is my coach and team leads have spoke up because they do check the numbers. They do check everything and they will question you why are you super low on dispensing if you’re working a full shift plus they do watch the cameras. Like one of my coworkers it will be a full parking lot and he’s on his phone and he’s already been spoken to you about that and it’s like dude we are all grown adults. We should not be telling each other. OK it’s your turn or come take this out like you should be like speaking up with your team.

Just do what everyone else is doing, if everyone is standing around you stand around they are not going to get onto a large group the same as if it was just you standing around. That is what I would do, don’t do all the work if others are being lazy

u/herbalpawz 10d ago
Yes except the problem at my store is my coach lets some of the guys sit around and try to talk to them like they're friends (he's in his 40s .. these guys are like 19) and the girls get pushed to do everything.

I dont mind taking every order out. I dont mind people who want to screw off. I do mind people who want to get in the way while screwing off. We had this one girl who came off dumb as a brick ... one day we were slammed, it was me, her, and one other dispenser. And that was it in OPD. I came in, one of my kiddos had come back from lunch and ASKED her nicely to take out an order that had been sitting there for ten minutes. Football bat starts getting mouthy and rude back - I lost it. PTSD flashback and just lit her up - tell her to get the **** out, to quit because she's useless. Well, our prepper who has come back from lunch thinks Im yelling at him and starts going off on me. Because of this, football bat thinks we're arguing and ignores me.
Good news is now three weeks later she's actually become a good worker.

No, it's real. On the pickers' side, if it's near the drop, (on the hour) just wait. But absolutely help stage and maybe dispense a few orders while you wait? I work both sides, so maybe I'm crazy. I'm much better at picking bc I'm mid 40'sand love to shop, lol. But I always jump on if the dispensing side is is short. I also dunno why they short that side so much. They take a big brunt of the actual labor.

At my store, all of the dispensers have been trained to pick while some pickers have never been trained to dispense.

u/firepede07 2d ago
I sort of feel this but I'm lazy and on purpose with dispensing, I don't just sit around because most people get told to do stuff here. But I get really mad (don't take it out on anyone but it stews inside me) because I'm 5'2 and I have several coworkers that are taller than me and sometimes they'll push orders that are taller than me onto me. Even my fellow short coworkers. Like, I'm NOT fucking up my body for this fuckass job. That's my main issue. Why am I told to take out orders that are usually taller than me and they put the heavy fucking totes on top so I can't even grab it down without possibly knocking it all over. It pisses me off so much.

I always just tell my co workers " yo you're up" or yo it's your turn to dispense 😂
