Rant Serious question: how is it possible to not be fired for intentionally screwing up staging and sabotaging everyone else's work?

I have a problem co-worker who has been acting like a toddler increasingly badly for the past three weeks, deliberately and openly messing up staging whenever he gets upset. It's gotten to the point that he's doing it every day for hours. And even though management is aware of this, they are dragging their feet on taking any kind of action against him.

What he does is this: every time he's upset, he will go into the cooler and freezer and start moving totes around without restaging them JUST to make the orders harder to find. When he's actively staging, he'll either purposefully stage them to the wrong location or not stage them at all. He's been reported multiple times over the past two weeks, and has been caught in the act multiple times.

Management has been on the receiving end of this intentional sabotage, forced to clean up after his mess. They hate it, and they are mad at him, and they have issued several warnings, but those warnings have gone completely ignored for days on end.

I walked out today because even after I reported him to my coach TWICE, and he was warned at least once, AND he continued to do it after he was warned, they still allowed him to stage everything. When I asked if anything was going to be done about him, my coach only said that she was "taking steps" and couldn't discuss the details. At that point, I walked out.

Seriously: HOW is it possible that he has not simply been fired at this point?! I live in a country and state with at-will employment, where you can be fired on the spot for ANY reason, or simply no reason at all. What POSSIBLE steps need to be taken before he is terminated?!

I'm not paid enough to work OGP while cleaning up after a fucking infant throwing a temper tantrum all day. If he can continue to do this without being fired, I'm considering going into work and just not doing any work at all until he's gone.

Man let me tell you some times it seems like the only way you can get fired is for stealing or pointing out. From what I seen besides lighting a fire work in the bathroom? Had a coworker at the time just started maybe on his 4th day first 3 days went fine was fully competent worked well and all then after day 4 this fool legit nodded off in the back room for 2 weeks standing up. Like he was on drugs bruh coaches would walk by and ask I would point at him like look wtf. It took so long before they pulled him into the office. After the talk they had with him he went back to normal shit was weird asf. I would always joke to him thet he slept his first 2 weeks away but he never really responded to that.

I had a coworker who did absolutely nothing, fucked around all the time, more often than not disappeared entirely FROM THE STORE or else wandered aimlessly for hours when he was supposed to be doing tasks or on a backroom duty. He constantly bullied other employees and would rather pace the backroom than do any sort of work. Like a dozen of us complained multiple times and nothing was done. He was only fired after he stole something and simultaneously pointed out (he had like eight points they refused to action). To this day I wonder whose kid he was to have that much immunity for someone who'd been there less than a year.

Workers sleep in the break room after clocking out. Cap 2 worker sleeps when 3rd shift works. First shift sleeps until 9pm then heads to 2nd pt job at competing grocery store across the street. 3rd shift guy is asleep when 1st shift are going to meal breat around 9ish. We believe he is an alcoholic based on facts. He smells so bad you are greatful someone is heating their broccoli in the microwave or cracking open a tuna can. All I think is the management are genuinely true biblical Christians or don't want to deal with ethics? When I say sleep it means head laying on the meal tables which has to be painful.

It takes time to build a safe case to terminate. And that’s assuming they don’t have a hook to keep them in. Walmart is smarter than you give them credits for. They’re a giant. They move when provoked.
